The owners manual for a 2003UK car doesnt list a clock......but it list a tyre pressure warning if fitted...?????
-
Dont know what year the clocks were...new in box though...Clock what clock, mine has the clock in the radio display...not in the three pods.
-
I took a gamble as it was only £10 and all I had to do was plug it in and hey presto all okay (apart from no tyre pressure warning as its not fitted on (my)JDM). My zed was first registered in Japan very late 2003.
-
My JDM was getting anywhere betwen 7 and 11 kl/l depending on how I was driving it... good news though I bought from ebay a set of new boxed UK clocks for £10... and now I dont have to be so obsessed with my calculator... keep and eye on ebay for some more. They are real easy to fit (15 mins) oh and the oil pressure is also in psi then. Well worth £10 IMO. Best

I wouldn't use Autosol on plastic...it'll matt it up for sure.

Who are these three companies in Kent then? This may be a real good bit of information as when you need it you need it!

Thanks for all the good comments and advice... well worth asking. I think it will be a lsd what with factory Brembos and stability control but to be sure I'll jack it up and see what happens if I turn one wheel. Good advice thanks. I wonder how many Z owners are actually certain if they have a lsd? For sure at MoT time I will be watching to see what they do. Actually when I take my real (85+) old cars for MoT they dont bother with the brake test just say if I am prepared to drive it then thats okay!! BTW thank you for your replies .. this is great and I have to say adds to the pleasure in owning a Zed. If I had realised the help and support available I would of got one before

6 weeks and loving it more and more. Cant find where to put the starting handle though...

Okay Im still unsure so I do have Brembos and also VSC can I tell by looking ?

How do I know if my 2003 JDM 6speed manual has a limited slip differential? I plan to change the diff oil but am unsure what to put in it as I dont know if it is a lsd? yep I know I must be rather slow but. The car handbook is in Japanese so the section that lists oils and capacities is a little hard to decipher however, I reckon it states to use 'API:GL-5,SAE:80W-90' oil. Is this for a lsd or not? I dont want to put the wrong grade of oil in but cant be sure if its ever been changed in 47000 miles. Any help and advice much appreciated. Thanks

I travel along the A14 and it has speed averaging cameras so you have no choice but 70mph sorry I guess I could try harder and only use the first two gears?

Just to update now a month has past and 2000 miles. So with the aircon on the idle is 95% better in fact acceptable, but after a long, say 5 minute idle (Cambridge traffic is real bad!) it starts to drop a bit but no missfire. So, although I changed the plugs and checked out the earthing etc I probably made no difference.. Just turn on the aircon. No reoccurance of the engine management light either. I get the impression this is quite common and wonder what it would take to increase the idle setting so that its say 600 rpm without aircon and 800 with? Oh well just one of those things..but I have to say the Z is running sweet and I am getting 28 mpg overall ( I normally push it the last 2 miles home to help the economy and it mostly down hill! Nick

My first check would be gearbox oil level... whilst at it drain it out and see if it looks clean, any metalic particles etc and refill to the level plug with fresh clean oil. Worth a check at this stage... before getting inside the gearbox. Good luck and I hope its nothing too serious or expensive.

splashy misfire at idle?? and warning light!!
doctor austin replied to sprevett's topic in 350Z General
I had a similar problem when I first bought the 350Z, till someone said leave the aircon on to increase the idle speed a bit...problem solved. Without aircon idle speed 400 to 500 rpm and a bit rough. With aircon 600 to 700 rpm and smooth and clean. They all do that sir! -
Hey go for something with a bit of history....a vintage car always looks good on the photographs and is not often seen these days...so guaranteed to attract attention. If you were close enough I would be pleased to help. (30 miles from Cambridge) www.vintageweddingcarscambridge.co.uk In any case I strongly recommend you get something booked asap as a lot of people book wedding cars 1 - 2 years in advance!! Best Wishes.

Anyone recommend a obd2 code reader
doctor austin replied to doctor austin's topic in 350Z Technical
Hello Rich. Yes it was good meeting you and your wife. Thank you for your time and patience. Shame we couldn't read anything through the 16 pin socket though. The pins that are connected are 4,5,6,7,8,14 & 16. not sure if that helps!! Once this is cracked I am sure lots of JDM owners would be interested. BTW So what is Inovate LM2? scanning around the internet I wonder if the protocol used on the jap cars is ISO9141? not that I have ANY understanding of the subject. Dont forget if you are around Cambridge do call in......... quote="rtbiscuit"]Alright Doc was nice to meet up today, sorry we didn't have any more luck on your car. For those wondering what we tried it was a USB to serial OBDII cable running on ELM 327 (thats the cable part) reads my car fine, but won't give any readout on the JDM. must be a different pin layout for UK to JDM cars, I'm Guessing that the Consult system that nissan runs does read JDM, but thats big money. What do the Japs use? are the Yanks likely to suffer the same issues, if so what do they run? -
Anyone recommend a obd2 code reader
doctor austin replied to doctor austin's topic in 350Z Technical
So still tying to find a scanner or lap top software /cable that will read the codes for an JDM Z, surley someone must of done it? Have tried another one today but no, it reads a UK car but not an import... I really would like the ability to conveniently read any codes and see whats happening with sensors etc. So please PM me if you have a reader or software that you know will read the codes etc from a JDM. Once I solve this one I may be able to locally read any Z's that need it in and around Cambridge.... -
Thanks for the replies.. Actually it makes me feel better as I now dont feel I am the only one with a low idle (BTW it has already got an earthing kit fitted and I have reset the throttle body etc) and the car runs so smooth normally. Gues I'll keep an eye on it and try leaving on the aircon......... Thanks everone...wow This is the most helpful site/club ever, I have vintage cars and an old MG too but no one in any of those clubs are interested in being helpful.. Thank you. (spent ages looking for the tick over screw..not!)

Wonder if anyone has had this? Okay so got the car 3 weeks ago, 45000 miles JDM 2003 manual 6 speed. On first day all okay but noticed idle a bit rough, then after a while it gave a engine management light whilst idling for a while. This I reset and fitted new plugs and air filter, since then have done 1000 miles with no problem BUT i try not to let the idle go below 800 - 1000 and its dead smooth, if I leave it (when hot) it'll drop to 400 and start to sound a bit rough. I have reset the throttle position etc no real change. Once off idle its real smooth and is getting 28 mpg up the A14 with 70 mph, averaging camers! I bought a EDBII reader but it wont read the JDM car and I can't randomly keep buying them hoping to find one that works. Any advice appreciated apart from get a stick to prop the throttle at 800revs!!!
-
I have just bought a new CAN OBDII Memoscan reader of ebay (about £30) that is supposed to read all codes including Nissan but it doesn't ! It works on other non Nissan cars though. So rather that keep buying ones that wont read Nissan codes can anyone recommend one (thats not too expensive) ... Oh its a Japanese Fairlady import does that make any differance??? Thanks Brgds Nick

Hello Chris Yes Ive had the car a day and have found it well good apart from this scare, however I am begining to feel I am not alone and am hoping its to do with plugs or coils as at least I feel I can deal with that! Fingers crossed. My other cars are all 85 years old so they are much easier to work with ...magneto ignition, hand start etc.... Take care Nick

Thank you Mike for pointing me to the reset information. Eventually managed to get it reset (its not so easy) Run well today driving around no probelms and the light has stayed out ..so far, however at idle I think I can hear the odd misfire. Once off idle all fine and in fact it runs real nice. I'll use to commute to work in the week and see what happens with the view to change the plugs and maybe see if I can find what else is wrong by using a code reader (from ebay)......... Fingers crossed and I'll post progress.
