Tuning the 350Z to use unleaded fuel
Mark@Abbey m/s replied to Mark@Abbey m/s's topic in Abbey Motorsport
If you use unleaded on the stock map the car will always be pulling timing so your not burning the air fuel mixture properly, so he car will be more unecomoical. We tuned a rev up car this week , which was running unleaded on a stock map the car was only giving around 230 hub bhp. After re tuning the fuel ignition cams maps we go the car back to 260 hub bhp which is pretty good for a car running on 95 octane fuel. I am in the process in putting my DE 276bhp car back to stock to allow us to build a 95 octane map. -
Personally I think the rose jointed bush is the way to go , it is only a few more pounds expensive than the Super pro bush. We can supply these as well thou. If the car is running so low I feel the compression arm is running out of it's safe angle so it will over work the bush. The rose joint will work up to far greater angle than a super pro bush. We have had no troubles with rose jointed bush , I have been running these on my JDM car for 3 years now no noise issues either. They be back in stock very soon may even be next week.

Steve's car isnt used on the road so it doesnt really have as much issues as running a car lower on the road as the car is serviced a lot more between runs. But it is only around 30/35mm lower than a stock car , we also run small diameter tyres so this makes the car look a lot lower.

Yes Jez is right the Uprev system tune's the car via the OBD diagnostic port. You can tune all the fuelling/ignition parameters and the variable cam timing and a host of other parameters within the stock ECU. You can even tune the ca rto run F/I via the stock ECU with larger injecotrs and air flow meter. If you have a JDM early car or a late 05 onwards (rev up) UK car you can even have multiply maps via the Cruise control switches. When we build a map for the cars, us @ Abbey have tuned over 100 350Z now, so we have a lot of base maps we work thorough running different fuelling and re mapping the cam timing to find the best power and torque even tweaking the inlet cam map a few degrees will make the car feel more responsive and gain and hold torque we have found, this is recored on the dyno . We also have found the Rev up cars neded to be tuned to a different AFR than the DE and HR cars. We are in the process in building some Unleaded 95 octane maps for these cars. We hope to be able to offer a post servic efor totally stock cars. I have a good 95 octane map for a Rev up already , just going to put my early DE car back to totally stock to unable us to build a 95 octane map. We charge £400-20 inc vat for N/A map to tune a F/I map is a little more expensive. We charge by the hour and you need to buy a Uprev licensce. Any questions ask away.

That is far to low , it will wear the front compression arms bushes out in no time , rear driveshaft angle will be excessive as well for constant running. I would say a max of 25mm is the most you can lower the 350Z to keep reasonable suspension angles. SPC make a nice front suspension top arm to allow the camber to be adjusted, not cheap thou. Raise it up a few MM I am sure it will ride far better and be more usable.

Tuning the 350Z to use unleaded fuel
Mark@Abbey m/s replied to Mark@Abbey m/s's topic in Abbey Motorsport
I am thinking just tune for Unleaded with out any additives. If we tune with the additive what happens when you fill up with out the additive? I am always worried about tuning cars with seperate maps for unleaded/super as the onus is on the driver to load the correct map. The cars will kind of look after thereselves with regards detonation but I am not happy with tuning cars for multi fuels. Early Uk DE (276bhp) cars cant have multi maps. Mark -

No stock unleaded is only 95 octane where as Super is 98 octane rating. The higher th octane rating the more aignition timing you can add into the ignition map so making more BHP/torque. With a lower octane rating fuel we need to adjust the igntion/fuelling within the stock ECU to make the car run safely without any engine damaging detonation. The car do have knock control at part/full throttle which can control detonation but this will cause the car to run at a lot lower BHP level as the defualt high knock ignition map removes around 10 degree igntion so trying to stop the engine destroying itself. -
Hi Guys, been thinking about a few things with regards the price of the fuel in the UK. I am thinking of returning my UK car back to totally stock and working on a UPREV remap using 95 octane fuel. Prehaps once we have some dyno results we can see if it is a worth while way to go with these cars to try to make them a little more "less" expensive to run. Do you think this will be worth while boys n girls? Mark

Front Lower Suspension Arm Bushes Debonding ???
Mark@Abbey m/s replied to Grumpy Griff's topic in Servicing
We have a good fix for this problem, we use a replacemnt bush kit that removes the rubber from the bush so your never have the same problem again; Have a look at this thread; viewtopic.php?f=114&t=45464 Sold a few kits/ exchange arms so far. any questions ask away -
350Z - "Knocking" / Uneven running 2005 UK model
Mark@Abbey m/s replied to tenchijin's topic in 350Z Technical
LONG TERM FUEL TRIM , sounds like the car is adding 5% fuel all the time , I would like to see if this is the same after you do a ECU reset. I have seen this a few times on the 350Z's. My general thoughts would be as follows; 1, do a ECU reset ( this can be done 3 ways. 1, via the pedal tapping 2, disconnect ECU 3, use Nissan Consult. Then see if the car returns to showing LTFT very quickly. 2, I have seen these cars give this problem due to front lambda sensors starting to wear out , you can sometimes cure this by swapping the sensors side to side i.e left bank to right right bank to left. 3, It could be an airflow meter , but normally these when the start to fail make the car go into limp mod they wont rev over 3000rpm 4, could be an air leak after the Air flow meter does take much of a air leak to cause the ECU to try to add 5% fuel to make the car run correctly. Where are you based in the UK? Any more questions ask away. Mark -
Hi, I must admit I have changed my thoughts with regards the throttle limiting issue on the 350Z's They arent limited by a percentage in the lower gears , whats happens is the throttle response is slower in the lower 3 gears , as the car has a fly by wire even if you deck the throttle you dont instantly get 100% throttle the butterfly slowly opens up to 100% on the stock map . When we Uprev this is remove (remap throttle response) so the car has the same throttle butterfly response in all 6 gears. This is done within the remap. We can also make the throttle pedal to butterfly ratio 1 to 1 this makes a very respensive car you lose cruise if you have it but it makes the car not nice to drive in town and small throttle openings, most people that trackday heavily like this mod. I do need to update my website re Uprev throttle response. Any more questions ask away

Will didn't I say it was drop links causing the noise last week? We could supply and fit uprated links cheaper than genuine links. Give Scott a ring re pads n discs Will. Hope your still enjoying the Uprev remap?

Chaps. Price has risen to £402-00 since the VAT went up to 20% Re multi car deals I have a thinkn but the price is cut to the bone we can do a good deal as we have maps already for most car set ups. This is for NA cars only thou. Mark -
Husky is off of the courtesy car list then. Yes they look a little strange but they are good cars. We never had any troubles with them, Wasso in the 1.4 ltr one , we also have a 1.6 ltr as a courtesy car. Any way I dont think there is any other trader on hear that offers coutrtesy cars?

Still working out what the switch assembly price will be , my sparky is away on holiday at the moment so onc ehe is back I will get a price sorted ASAP. Mark

|didnt want to crap RS tuning UPREV thread so I though I would answer on another thread. Also all GEN 1 ECU,s on JDM and US car can have multi maps , it is just the GEN 1 UK cars that cant have multi maps, and even if you dont have a cruise car we can up load a crusie map and add swtiches to allow the car to have multi maps) We can leave the stock MAP in any of the postions on a multi map car, but we get better econmy than most of the stock maps so why use a stock map ( I am sure Paul at RS gets better fuel economy after remapping as well)

hi, to get the most from a stock internal non F/I and non Nitroused HR . you need to get rid of the stock cats it a good flowing Y pipe and if you want a nice exhaust system like a HKS super sound master the stock air filters I feel are the way forward as well. When we run stock HR 350's we normally only see around 305/310 flywheel bhp stock , I think your be a lucky to gain 25+ bhp with the just above mods , but the gains from these mods are good mid range torque gains are very impresssive , throttle response improved. Re-map are £400-20 inc vat , I can quote on parts/fitting labour if you want , best to e-mail me on mark@abbeymotorsport.co.uk Mark

Hi, your list; Your need a good flowing Y pipe. If you dont mind running without CATS that the way to make the most BHP The Cosworth plenum will only give you around 4/5 bhp at the top end of the engines rev range , and the early VQ (DE) motor cant revved over 7100rpm due to valve train limits and oil pump limits. Headers I feel are a expensive mod for very little gain , the stock Nissan headers are good for the rev the stock motor can take , again you need to rev the motor over 7000+rpm to get any gain. I have seen 265 axle BHP ( approx 300 flywheel BHp with de-cats,Y pipe, Cosworth plenum , air filter ( not all cars are the same thou) any questions ask away.

Wasn't me I was in the dyno this morning! And I definitely don't have curley hair! It was my wife to be!

Anyone got or had takeda or weapon r cai kits?
Mark@Abbey m/s replied to Dano190485's topic in Performance
Hi, The CAi make the best noise but we find these are bad for heat soak as the air filters pick air up from under the bonnet where as the stock airboxes pick up cold air from behind the bumper. I personally would go for HKS or any type of panel filter in the stock air box's. But like any 350Z to get the proper gains from the bolt on the car will need remapping. -
We can supply the HKSsystem , think we even have 1 in stock , all thes esytems will give the same results as they all remove the rear sets of cats but the cars still stay 100% legal MOT wise. Mark

My 2 pences worth, 1, reset ECU this will remove adaptive fuelling , this will normally help the economy 2, remap the car , we can get the car running back as it should be , we find the lambda's deteriorate over time ( wear out) we reset these within the ECU so they car hits the correct AFR reading thats programmed into the ECU. 3, We can even remap for 95 octane fuel , which will lose a few bhp if the ca ris stock but it will save you a few pennies per litre. 4, cruise control will help , I did a trip the other day on my UK 350Z up to Nottingham, car was returning 32mpg running on the cruise around 85/90 mph which I thought was real good. hope this helps any quesations ask away.
