  1. Got this with mine too. After a detailed look I found that the left hand bank cam cover gasket has the smallest of leaks onto the left hand bank manifold heatshield. The paper trail is thin as mine is low miles with clean oil which doesn't leave much evidence but after the winter lay up I found the mist of oil on top of the shield. First run of 2014 was a bit stinky when stationary but all burned off and fine now. Will attend to this next winter lay up as is too small to worry about during spring/summer usage.
  2. Glad you got sorted too Johnny A. I noticed you departed the Akebono pads lol. It's such a small but very irritating problem BUT totally satisfying when solved. I'm still in heaven with my quiet brakes. Never looked back. Silly really that a company as respected as Akebono can't get the pad compounds quite right for long low speed / low effort braking.....
  3. June time, same as Nismo
  4. I went from a 300 DE to a 370z. The 350z was an awesome car and it does feel slightly more frisky than a 370z BUT I never loved it, was never sure of the back end??. Whereas the 370 has just been an awesome place to be since last September for me and I can't stop looking at it in the garage. Fair enough the exhaust could be more 350z but on the other hand it feels so much more together at 7000 rpms whereas the 350 felt like it was going to munch itself at anything above 6000 rpms. The only thing I would swop is the 911 throttle pedal as I way prefer top hinged throttle pedals. Otherwise the 370z for me is just awesome. All the good of the 350z, none of the bad AND a whole lot more.

    Tyres Compounds

Well looking forward to the new Nismo spec Bridgestone S001's. These will be a hell of a tyre, well worth switching to and along the way converting to the wider 285/35x19 Nismo rears. These will also be extra loads giving more mechanical grip. Now trying to scrub out my RE050A's as quick as poss lol
  6. Ok got an update on this. Initially switched the Front pads to EBC Red Ceramics to find that the squeal was still coming from the Rears after all. Then switched them also to Red Ceramics and oh so thankfully the low speed squeals are now a distant memory. Also as a bonus the performance and characteristics of the Ebc's are way better than the standard Akebono pads, and that something I thought I would not be saying BUT I am. Well chuffed and now totally enjoying the 370 trip.

  9. The recovery process of Scratchshield will only go as far as surface marring and holograms. Anything more aggressive than this then you will get a regular scratch which can be removed in the normal fashion as per a regular clearcoat paint. Tbh Nissan are overselling this product as a miracle paint and ITS NOT. I can't comment On heat gun treatment so thats maybe where I'm missing out. I found that my scratchshield responded better with higher heat and pressure when being compounded with a Rotary and Menz. Am overjoyed with my correction result
  10. Just done full correction on mine with Menzerna and found Scratchshield responded very well to the compounds but like yourself found no benefit from heating panels to try and remove the deeper imperfections. Heat guns would probably scare the hell out of me too, so will stick with the Rotary & Menz. I think where scratchshield comes into its own is its ability to recover minor surface damage which gives those horrible holograms and haze, which is pretty priceless as full corrections will be of less requirement so long as the deeper damage is avoided.
  11. Seems I'm not alone with this problem thankfully. Mine had its 1st service a couple of months back at 4500 miles and alongside I done front and rear brake services coz the fronts had started to squeal at low speed. Done a proper clean up and lube in all the right places and it seemed ok for a while but has since returned. I'm going to have them apart again soon and have another look. My suspiscion is that the anti rattle spring is causing a resonance / squeal. So I'm going to apply lube to all the contact areas of the anti rattle spring and hope that this is the cure otherwise it looks like a pad compound issue.
  12. Hi Mark, You are not alone with the clutch jam issue. I had this happen in my 350z but only when I was dragging at Santa Pod whilst being a meathead on the clutch pedal. Sheer momentum was taking the cover plate over centre and jamming the clutch open. What I did in the end was to make a clutch pedal limiter which restricted the amount of total lift. Was only talking 1-2mm of restriction. The fault never re occured, even at Pod. Never looked back. Clearly this hidden agender resides still within the 370z Hope this puts your mind at rest
  13. Got the whiney bearing noise on my 2011 370 at idle but it seems to go away with temperature increase, Only done 5000 miles. Funny thing is mine has become more noticeable with the recent drop in ambient temps as didn't really notice it a month ago when purchased. Gear change is all superb, a lot more slick than my recently sold 350 As per mentioned it seems common place on the370z.com. Clearly im not the only one
  14. Good Luck on your quest mate The 370Z is a hell of a car. I loved every bit of my recent test in one. The whole package of the car and styling is just right! Highly Polished and perfected 350Z imo with superior handling & performance. Lovely car. Only bad side to this car...................It now makes the 350 look old, when placed next to a 370
  15. Nice example mate, much te same as my wife's. Megs G220 is a great piece of kit. Couple that with some 3M and Menz Compounds & Polish it will come up the business. You will find the colour will be much richer than you have at present. Takes a lot of time doing 3-4 stages but only has to be done the once to that level and this colour will give you a lot in return. Good luck wit your 350
  16. Two reasons for staying with Rays 1) These GT4 wheels are heavier thus handling will be affected. 2) There is hardly any paint on the inner rim surface and in my heart of hearts after a couple of winters they are gonna be corroding up. The current set of Rays on the car on the inner rim are still in immac condition, after 27000 miles!

    new rear tyres

That's a nice point of view you have there. Yes PS2's are a bit overkill BUT I'm one of these people who thinks that a classy car like a Zed deserves classy tyres. Theres the pshycology side to it too. If you have the best tyres then you have more confidence in the ability of your car. But then back to your side of the arguement is where can you use such confidence and capability on the road. Each to there own but for me it has to be the best when it comes to tyres. It's the one component/s that sit between your car and going off the black and narrow stuff
  18. Just serviced Sal's the other week and the noise comes from the very back of the gearbox under the gearstick mounts, so totally wipes out the release bearing idea. No noises under load. Plus changed the gearbox oil to check condition of it and it came out like new. Was well happy and is obviously a clear Zed Trait

    new rear tyres

IMO tyres are everything where any performance car is concerned. Its an area heavily overlooked on VXRO. with people running Stage 3 cars on Falks or other mid range brands. Stay with Bridgestone or better and keep your car on the top level, regardless of cost!!

  21. I sort of agree with you on the 350 looking dated when placed next to the 370z. I was looking at the 370 in the telegraph write up. It was in a dark mercury grey and looks awesome. I think being shorter it looks so much more in proportion around the back end. The more acute drop off on the bonnet is good too. Just not so sure about the radical light styling. But new ideas usually grow on us?

  23. Best parking is out at Stowe corner. It's in a field but most people get directed into Woodcote and Abbey car parks, hence making Stowe car park quite quiet. Field should be hard this year with all the sun we are going to get.
