    350Z vs Z4

http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/cargrouptests/209894/bmw_z4_v_nissan_350z.html "the 350Z is unquestionably more capable, inspiring and, ultimately, faster over all types of road"
  2. Stunning quality Why do people spend twice as much on a Nismo
  3. Finally got my exhaust fitted... Went on fine and fits really snug without any rattles. Only issue is the tail pipes both point slightly to the left and could do with heating and bending into the right position As for sound it's no louder than stock when idling/cruising but puts out a nice deep noise under power without being boomy
  4. 2007 press release: http://www.netcarshow.com/nismo/2007-nissan_350z/ 2007 road test: http://www.insideline.com/nissan/350z/2007/follow-up-test-2007-nissan-nismo-350z.html True you could only buy 19s in UK but for the factory Jap/US model they kept 18s on the front
  5. 18x9-inch front and 19x10-inch rear with 245/40WR18 front, 265/35WR19 rear tyres
  6. Sounds pretty bad-ass to me Almost silent until you give it some beans Can't wait to get mine fitted next week.
  7. You have to register all keys before turning the ignition to on (which exits the registration mode). I think you have to put each key into the ignition when you do the button presses so the immobiliser can talk to the transponder chips. Be careful... I got into a right state trying to code a second hand key. First I locked myself inside the car with no working key... Then I locked myself out without a working key!
  8. Even if the next Z looks like that it will sound like this
  9. From Autocar... Nissan is planning a radical shake-up of its next-generation Z-car that could even include diesel engines and a four-cylinder hybrid powertrain, sourced as part of the brand’s recent tie-up with Daimler. Renault-Nissan is expected to supply three and four-cylinder petrol engines and electric technology to Daimler as part of the deal. In return, it will get four, six and eight-cylinder powerplants, and CEO Carlos Ghosn is said to be keen to install some of those units in the next Zed to keep the car ahead of tightening emissions regs. Greener variants could also help the car to attract buyers in Japan’s flagging domestic sports car market. Nissan is considering three new engines for the Zed. First is a 3.5-litre V6 hybrid set-up used in Mercedes S400; Nissan also has the option of its own, similar-sized motor from the forthcoming Infiniti M hybrid. Even more tempting are Mercedes’ diesel options: the V6 from the E350 CDI and the four-cylinder petrol hybrid from the forthcoming E300 Bluetec. The E300’s mix of 2.2-litre, four-pot turbodiesel and 15kW electric motor produces a total of 221bhp and more than 420lb ft of torque. In the E-class it returns a claimed 56mpg while emitting just 109g/km of CO2. Another longer-term option would be Mercedes’ Diesotto engine, which combines diesel and petrol tech and can power cars as large as an S-class from just 1.8 litres. Nissan’s Japanese rivals, Toyota and Honda, have struggled to maintain sales of sports cars in recent years. But while Toyota’s FT-86 small petrol coupé has now been pushed back until 2012 at the earliest, Honda is now enjoying strong sales with its CR-Z hybrid. Mitsubishi is planning a radical overhaul of its Lancer Evolution by changing the next incarnation into a diesel hybrid. The switch of drivetrain is designed to save the Evo from tightening economy and emissions regs while preserving its trademark mid-range shove. Mitsubishi is said to have given serious consideration to axing the Evo model altogether. As recently as a month ago, sources in Japan said an earlier project — to switch the car to a petrol hybrid powertrain and base it on the PX-MiEV SUV concept’s platform — was dead. But now the firm’s R&D department has been given approval to push the car in a different direction: a diesel hybrid. Engineers hope that the mix of clean-diesel torque and electric motor assistance will allow the Evo XI to deliver a 0-62mph time of under five seconds, yet cut CO2 emissions to well under 200g/km. Handling will be entrusted to a revised version of the Evo’s highly rated four-wheel drive system, S-AWC, which integrates steering, braking and traction control. The switch marks a big gamble for Mitsubishi. Diesel hybrid will, in effect, rule the Evo out of competition use and could limit its appeal in key markets such as the US and Japan, where diesels have yet to gain widespread acceptance.
  10. I've got one of these Toyosports exhausts but haven't had it fitted yet. Was going to report on fitment and sound when I do. I also searched for info but I only found videos for their RX8 exhaust... Which seems to be quite popular! The design is actually a copy of the Nismo exhaust (for a 1/5th of the price!) and quality looks OK for the money.
  11. The plot thickens... Having spent the morning locking myself in and out the car with no functioning fob I've now got hold of the correct type of key (Siemens 954501a on the PCB) and can get through the registration procedure. You have to be fast with those key turns and the indicator dash lights don't appear because the ignition is off - so listen for the relay clicks. But although I can re-register my original and the new fob, I can only lock the car with the new one... It won't unlock or disable the immobiliser. Anyone else got this far?

  13. I'm speaking as a former owner. It was hard enough finding a clean one in 2005... RWD with Nissan power: http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1720734.htm
  14. I also serviced my rear brakes recently and threw on some new pads as the old ones were soft and crumbling. The result? I'm getting at least 1 mpg more! When I Waxoyl'd my arches last year I removed a ton of dirt from the rear arches, especially in the shock tower and around the fuel filler pipes.
  15. He said he doesn't want a money pit!
  16. For those who've bought keys and had problems... Check if there's a transponder chip inside! I've bought 2 now and neither has had a chip inside so it looks like there's 2 different types that look identical! One guy selling on eBay actually mentions keys with chips are rare.

    370z brakes article

They're referring to uprated pads being offered as a option when buying new, and not just an aftermarket option. The Nismo is sold as a track-ready model so it should have them as standard. Their conclusions seem fair. The brakes are no worse than other cars of similar weight but they could be a lot better. My Almera and 200SX both had some sort of ducting to cool the brakes so it's odd the 350 and 370 have nothing Uprating the pads and fluid made them last longer but you get little warning of when they'll go AWOL
  18. TGM? Other members have used and highly recommended them

    BMW 335i

Actually 10-20 kg lighter (1525 kg)
  20. I switched to a 350Z last year from an S14a... As you say they're needing a lot of TLC now. Biggest difference is the extra 300 kg of weight, but it's much better built and quieter on the motorway. If your tall the seat doesn't go as low or far back but I'm 6ft 2in and can do 2-3 hours commuting a day no problem. Expect 5 mpg less so you may well want to keep the run-around! The 350Z still has a few faults (elec windows, CV joints, stereo) but they're easy to identify and nothing like as bad as an S14 (intercooler, fuel pump, heater fan, dash lights, sticking calipers, turbo gaskets, susp bushes, etc...) 350s hold their value well so it's a good choice as a second car. I too looked for alternatives but gave up
  21. Correct. Another £1000 on top of the GT Pack. Sat Nav was another couple of grand but very basic/dated compared to what you can get now. A well maintained car with motorway miles will be better than a thrashed/neglected weekend car.
  22. I'd be inclined to trust back-to-back magazine tests rather than forum opinions Have seen several good reviews for the Ventus V12s as well: http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/comparisons/09q2/tire_test_nine_affordable_summer_tires_take_on_the_michelin_ps2-comparison_tests/hankook_ventus_v12_evo_page_10 http://www.modified.com/tech/modp-0904-hankook-ventus-v12-evo-k110-tire-review/index.html http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2010-Auto-Bild-Ultra-High-Performance-Tyre-Test.htm

    piccies of my zed

Get those chav-spec wiper blades off right now! +1 on the tyre profile... Could upset the traction control (which expects a certain % speed difference between front and rear wheels)
