XEL shares have already seen a dip on the back of the increased tax on North Sea Oil companies being announced: http://www.whatinvestment.co.uk/trading ... nies.thtml

Tomorrow is another day. Ive now set another target of buy in to SOU at under 5p. It looks like there may be a big holder selling chunks, and tomorrow being a day of sells for SOU. if it gets below 5 Ill probably jump in, but it will be a punt share and not a long term hold. Long term hold of RRL took a bit of drop today, but I think the long term for that company looks good, they are headed in the right direction. SOU and CRND will both be punts rather than any long term investment I think.

Was speaking to a guy at a car meet I went to on Sunday who is selling his 458 and sticking with a 430 Scud as although the 458 is faster, his opinion is that the scud is a more entertaining and involved drive.

Im staring to get the hang of this. Should have shorted a few grand

SOU statement as expected, and my alert at 5.9 has well and truly gone off. Now at 5.7. I wonder if we will see a bigger fall as all those people who bought in at just over 5.5 will try and get out quick. Looks like you sold your profit at just the right moment captain.
-
Ive convinced myself to take a punt on SOU, but not at current levels. Im convinced without any rns there has to be a retrace back to around the 4.5/5p level. (although Ive set up an alert at 5.9 )
-
What the hell is going on with SOU !? Its up a further 12% today on yesterdays close. Overall around 40+% up in one day and an hour or so of opening. With absolutely ZERO news as far as I can tell. There were even delayed buys of millions of shares last night apparently, with no news at all, I can only assume this is just massive speculation by people wanting to join a self propelled gravy train. Surely the company will be tasked with responding to such a massive jump in share price? If the response is "we know of no reason", then there could be a lot of bloody noses couldn't there?
-
If SOU settles back down around the 5.8/6p level today then I may have a small holding, but at the levels of 6.4 now, I think its a little overheated. There will undoubtedly be a lot of people taking out small is positions today trying to make a quick buck. Id be looking for the sells later this afternoon. May be able to get a good price if the "quick buck" folk start dumping them quickly.
-
Cant help but think a serious retrace should be on the cards for SOU. Mind you, hind sight is a wonderful thing, I was hovering over buying at 5.95p and wimped out as the lack of any perticular reason behind the ramping was in the back of my mind. Could have sold about an hour or so later at 6.35 - 6.7% rise in an hour. I doubt a high street bank would have given me that.
-
Im down about £450 on them at the moment, but it can fluctuate that in a day sometimes. Time will tell
-
Yup - if CRND makes £1 then a Zonda it will be. If it busts, then its Europe rather than carribean for hols RRL still looks very good even at around 20p. Certainly a good bet for making more than you would with money in a bank. No where near as safe, but the possible rewards outweigh the risks. As ever do your own research and dont invest what you can afford to lose and you wont go wrong.

Yep, thats true, but in the statistics they just have "speed". So anyone having an accident within the legal limit, but still too fast for the conditions, one of the factors goes down as "speed". Then they use these "speed" figures to justify cameras because of the numbers of accidents involving speed. Its all a massive con to justify the easy method of making money using cameras rather than police who have discretion.
-
Nope - the government use speed as a method of "weeding out the bad drivers" because its relatively easy, and makes lots of money. To weed out people who actually cause the problems would cost money rather than generate it, and be a lot more difficult. So who is the one making death on our roads cheap, the drivers who have accidents, or successive governments who wont invest in a proper method of reducing it? Its very easy to quantify and monitor the emissions of each vehicle using its rated emission level and recorded mileage each year, but why bother changing it when the current system of charging based on the level alone without taking into account usage generates billions from motorists who dont use their cars. I tax four, but Ill bet if I work out the total tons of CO2 I emit it will be less than some who may only have one car but do more mileage. So in an emissions based taxing system, which the VED is now supposed to be, is it fair that I pay four times as much if not more, for emitting less? Its the same with the "speed kills". Yes it does, but its by no means the sole contributor, yet its targetted as though it is - because doing it properly is too difficult and doesnt make as much money for the treasury, so this half cocked scheme is being touted as the be all and end all by safety campaigners.
-
I would see a fundamental flaw is policing based on the one (easy) aspect that they can monitor (speed). A responsible driver at 35 in a 30 is penalised, where a drunk going past a camera at 30 would get away with it. If every driver stuck to the speed limits, are we suggesting that we will reduce deaths to zero? I dont think so. But the statistics that are being put out are suggesting thats the case. If every car was electronically limited to 70, would we se an end to all deaths on the motorway for example? If the answer is no, then cameras are not the way to police the roads imho.
-
Ill take a 40mph crash in a 2011 ford focus over a 30mph crash in a 1992 ford escort. There is way to much emphasis put on speed, but of course its the only one that people can be fined for. Just by driving down the street at legal speeds in a 1990 escort you pose more danger to a pedestrian than a 2011 Focus doing the same legal speed.
-
One major point overlooked in the statistics of road deaths / camera introduction point is the advancement in the vehicles on the roads, both in terms of occupant safety and pedestrian impact safety. We have curtain airbags, bonnets which pop up to try and cushion pedestrian impacts etc etc... Thousands of advancements. NCAP ratings for occupant and pedestrian safety ratings have mor than doubled in some cases for comparable cars over the last 20 years.
-
Yes they are. They do not have that human element discretion. A police officer can choose how to deal with someone doing 35 in a 30 at 5am in the morning when there is nothing more than a blackbird sharing the road, and they can choose how to deal with that same person doing 35 in a 30 when the primary school on that road has just emptied for the afternoon. A camera deals with those two possibilities in exactly the same manner. No, they wouldn't. Motorways are clogged becasue A. Trucks continue to overtake each other for miles on end and B. People do not keep left. People that drive at 65 in the centre lane cause a massive risk to many other road users and themselves, much more than someone doing 80 in the fast lane on a quiet Sunday. But again, which one does the camera prosecute? The reason there are no accuarte published figures from the office of national statistics on cameras, driving offences and death rates since 2002, is beacuase they know full well they can't be justified. For the record, I have no points and never been prosecuted or warned for speeding. I simply abhore the way that motorists in general (and not just those who speed) are being used as nothing more than a massive cash cow.

not everyone likes Chris Moyles, but generating over £1m for comic relief by doing this is something to be admired. Fair play if they get a world record at the same time, hopefully the money raised will save some lives around the world - Ive donated to it.

They look like most of the ones we used to see that were in the Royal Mail depots.
