Servicing advice needed pls

Hi People, I bought my Zed with patchy service history just over a year ago from a trader. No info as to whether its had its P3 and at that time, I put it thru an engine service and the health of the car over the last year has been good. As of 6 months ago, no MOT advisories and the car is at 41,000miles. There is a garage local to me that has seen the car many times for various mods + MOT and I now want to book it in for a full service. I trust them and they know the car, but they are just a local..So im after some advice as to whether to use them as opposed to someone like Cougar Store who aren't far away and pay more for a P3?. Last MOT from my local garage may have covered some of the items included in a full service but then again this was 6 mths ago.. .. Just after some opinions please

I appreciate the feedback. However, surely by taking it to someone new, they are going to start from scratch with the car as opposed to parts that have already been checked in previous MOT. I'm not trying to cut corners but (a little like taking it to a stealer), isn't this like giving the dog some exercise and then letting him run around the back yard ?

I'm in a similar situation Jamess115. The cars on 33k now and looking through the history has never really had a major service from what I can tell and will be due a service/MOT in Sept. My nearest specialist/trader is also CougarStore but god damn, I proper hate the journey into Leicester! It's like they deliberatey designed it to be as awkward as possible.

I asked Tarmac (whos in Derby) If he had a workshop but unfortunately not. So I'm still deciding also.

What ever mileage your Zeds are on its also dependant of what age they are don't forget. Things like plugs, belts , coolant gear box oil and diff oil quite often get over looked even from the main dealers as I found. Personally if it was me and my new car I start from scratch and get the full P3 done and at least you'd know it was all sorted. Cougar store may be dearer for a P3 but includes a lot more than your average P3 from the stealers like gear and diff oil for starters. PM Mitz for a quote and what's included.

It's easy to get to off the M1 no need to go through Leicester.

I never debated not getting the major service done I just said I'm in 2 minds about having it done at a specialist or not.

I sat for 40mins on the M1 stationary last time thinking I was being smart and cutting out driving though Leicester so its not always the best way

Haha I wouldn't worry about traffic if going on at Saturday as Mitz usually likes you there early say 8am which means when I go leaving at 6:30am. Nice empty roads though.

Your local Indy or Cougar should both be fine,

A bit of travel and a few extra pounds is not the end of the world.

Go to where you are comfortable.

Alex. :)

What area are you in james, if your are north London I would say Ross at JAPEX or cougar because he just knows his way around these cars.

I had no receipts with my car once purchased and said to Ross check all the usual suspect things. Your average garage will do all the checks fine but not as well as a specialist. Also do not go nissan unless you have money to burn and like a tick sheet that pulls apart your car.

Based in Northants. It looks like Cougar (closest) doesn't include Coolant flush & Japex not the Diff oil in their P3's, but I have spoken to both and waiting for more info. Car has done 40K approx. Quick question tho: I have a Fujita Short Ram Air Intake & can't tell whether the cone filter needs replacing. It looks in great condition but its been on for about a year ( approx. 7K miles driving), is there any way of knowing if it needs replacing ? ta
