nissanman312 Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Now that I've ditched the HFC idea, I'm with my non-resonated test pipes. 2.5" (I think) straight through. Noisy things. Does anyone have an opinion on the "best" resonated test pipes out there? I want to minimise drone and back pressure (and overall decibels, for the sake of my poor neighbours!) Thinking the same not for neighbours for my own ears I'll have to see what mine sounds like Quote
dajw Posted April 7, 2015 Author Posted April 7, 2015 I like the idea of those Motordyne ART pipes. Looks good, sounds good. I wonder if they clear the auto tranny? Quote
Adrian@TORQEN Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Unlikely without modification, see in my build thread what I did to the ARKs Quote
dajw Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 (edited) Just had a call from Jez — apparently the frozenboost charge cooler is massive! Does anyone know how to make it fit?! Edited April 8, 2015 by dajw Quote
dajw Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 Oh don't even go there lol Why? Have you the same from Lichfield? Quote
Bodyboarder81 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Pretty sure he will need to trim the inner part of the bumper ..... Let's hope he gets it fitted as he needs to squeeze one in a 50 soon!! Quote

dajw Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 I just got a VM saying this thing is huge - I think he was wondering if there was any particular guide to follow. Quote
nissanman312 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 No news is good news that's the theory lol 1 Quote
dajw Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 I asked the question on the370z forum in the US, where more people have installed this massive cooler: http://www.the370z.com/forced-induction/102490-stillen-sc-frozenboost-how-make-fit.html Here is what I learned so far: Its chuffing huge, and doesn't fit, so to make it fit you must be inventive. Either trim out the bumper and have the thing visible (uurrrrghly) Or mount it underneath the crash bar (better). Apparently when in place, some people have had issues with idling / coasting as depending on where it is mounted, there may not be a place for the Stillen intake shroud to be mounted. Without the shroud, some people report idling issues. I shall report back once Jez has been in touch. Quote
dajw Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 This gets better Nah it gets worse. Here's the news from Jez: "It will weaken the crash bar and you won’t be able to tow the car as the tow eye mount is removed." and "Looks like theres a lot of hacking to be done to the crash bar and the inside of the bumper. Your options here are fit the cooler as shown or stick with the original cooler." — it is also hard to price, just hourly rate stuff so I've decided to hold on this for the time being. The Quaife diff: the output shafts from my old diff won't fit, so we are to find out how much a new set of shafts from Nissan from the 350z AT are, and alternatively to see if we can get hold of a used 350z AT diff and use the shafts from that. Its not plug and play stuff, this. I genuinely had no idea the Frozenboost was so huge. I might sell it and get a smaller one. I'm really not keen on affecting the crash bar's ability to do its job. nissanman312 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 (edited) I don't know about sell refund should be the word I was under the impression this should all fit Hmmmmmm Edited April 8, 2015 by nissanman312 Quote
nissanman312 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Is this more of a problem with the auto because of the extra coolers there Quote
dajw Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 Its nothing to panic about, just a thing to consider. That cooler is pretty damned large, so let's see what needs to be done to make it fit. If the answer is that it is possible to make it fit without altering the safety and look of the car, I'll do it. If it isn't, I'll find an alternative cooler. Adrian's on the case now too. Quote
Bodyboarder81 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Is this more of a problem with the auto because of the extra coolers there I believe this doesn't help the situation ....... Wandering if mine will fit on my 50? Looks to be quite a bit of room on mine ........ Quote

evilscorp Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Most modifications compromise something about the standard cars characteristics. Not going to say you are always best to use tried and tested methods as no one would progress but it's handy to do lots of research on parts that cost quite a bit of money. Lots of people going F/I at the moment, I just hope they all like to read as I still class myself as a novice after reading every S/C thread I can find on our fantastic forum and the bible US F/I section. 2 Quote

Wandering if mine will fit on my 50? Looks to be quite a bit of room on mine ........ There are no additional coolers up front on the AT cars. The transmission cooler is integrated into the radiator so takes up no more space than on a MT car Quote
