snoged Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 good evening while sitting in traffic today temp gauge went into the red and steam from under the bonnet,left in parked for a couple of hours then got it home,all ok while moving probably because its so cold today,just had a quick look again left it running on the drive once again temp goes right up and the heater in side the car only gets luke warm would this be an air lock ? the other thing i noticed is that the radiator fans do not come on any advice is more than welcome Quote
Neilp Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 Due to it overheating there is a good chance its airlocked. I would recommend not driving it at all as there may be zero cooling/coolant within certain parts of the block. Time to get the fans out and refurb the motors (or replace) also need to get replacement fluid for it. Quote

Tricky-Ricky Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 What often happens is that one motor goes intermittent or fails, but its not often noticed if you don't sit in traffic often, as the airflow through the rad when moving is enough to keep the temp down. Quote

snoged Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 ok this morning i left idling for 45 mins i found that both fans are working and no overheating but also noted no warm air from the heater fan can anyone tell me where to bleed this from ? thanks Quote
Neilp Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 If your facing the car from the front, at the back left of the plenum you will see a rubber pipe which has a plastic section on it with a philips (star) head on it. Remove that carefully and air it from there. You may have to do some pipe squeezing to force the air out and through the system etc. Quote

Could be that the fans are on their way out, ...keep an eye on the temperature level when driving just in case it happens again. Hopefully it won't though and all will be good. 1 Quote

You going for standard fans? You could PM zmanalex for good quality used working fan motors (cheapest option) or get new OEM fan motors from Clark Motorsport or get what most people do which is the Mishimoto fan shroud kit (cheaper than OEM & a good upgrade) also available from Clark Motorsport as well as a few other traders on here. snoged Posted March 14, 2015 Author Posted March 14, 2015 just thought i would write a few lines on what iv'e done fitted the Mishimoto fan shroud kit today took about 45 mins to get the oem one out and about 15-20 to put the replacement in,system bled and all works fine new fans are quite loud though ! One thing worth checking as I have heard of people getting this wrong before is to make sure the fans are going the right way. E.g. Drawing cold air through the radiator rather than the opposite. Hopefully yours is wired up correctly and this is the end to your overheating problems. Quote
