Well I went for a test drive today in the Monaro.... Wow. Just from turning the key and listening to that V8 was mighty good.

I was really surprised by the clutch, very, very light, much softer than the Z. I was doing 70 and i looked down to see I was just sitting at just over 1000 revs :scare: So much torque and power through any gear.... it turns heads too B):p

I am still undecided, I am a bit disapointed in price difference, but we're not a million miles apart. I am going to check a local dealer tommorrow to see what they can offer me. If I don't get one, then it'll be the Z for another year.

I have to say though I love the Z, and it would be sad to see her go but there is something about the "Thunder from Down Under".......

If I do sell the Z, I'll have a set of 19" TSW Alloys up for grabs with just over 4k on the tyres...

Monaro...

V8...

Personally I'd rather a Monaro than a Zed.... :boxing: A lot of car for the money and more practical, fuel comsumption aside.

BTW big engines aren't always super thirsty. I get between 28 - 20 mpg on a run depending on speed and I've never had less than 24 mpg on a tank full. I've seen sub 20 mpg around town, but don't do this kind of driving very often.

Monaro? Cor for a minute there I thought you were selling your Z for a flippin' Vauxhall!!

Good grief!! :p

....it would be debadged very quickly :teeth: ....perhaps would leave the VXR and the V8 ones ;)

I'd look into getting Holden Badges as it is in Oz Land...

So is this for a new one, or a used that you looking at swapping?

Reading that article, I'm assuming you can get one of the "old" shape still as a new car until stock runs out?

Old shape, yes. There are still one out there with very low miles. The new one is called the VXR8, has 4 doors and is a bit squarish....oh and £10k more :teeth:

Well I'm still mulling over this and still haven't reached a decision. One minute I am 100% ready to trade the Zed, the next I want to keep it as it is still head turner and everyone I know loves it. The thing is, I know I'll need to get rid of it eventually, as I tend not to hold on to cars for more than 3 years. The other thing is every time I wash it, I seem to have a new paint chip! I hate the paint on the Zed, by far the worst paint I've ever seen, in comparison my Honda was bullet proof.

I've been doing a lot of research on the 'ro (as they appear to be called) and mpg is not far off the Zed...especially with the Wortec exhaust (£1800 :scare:) fitted. I like the fact there are only 1000 in the Uk too.

Servicing is buttons, but the nearest decent place is aparently 300 miles away. However at £120 every 10,000 miles, its bloody cheap. You can buy service kits from specialists, then either do it yourself or take it to a trustworthy garage

The missus is going for a test drive this weekend, so we'll see what happens. I honestly feel stressed out about this..... I thought getting a new car was supposed to be enjoyable...

If you need practicality and power then I guess the Vauxhall ticks the right boxes.

As for it being a head turner? It isn't. That's for sure. And looking at your sig, your 350 is. How long have you tested the Vauxhall for? I had a 350 coupe for a week and a roadster for a week before I dived in for a Z - I felt it was the only way to see if I could live with a 350. Can you not do the same with the Vauxhall?

My 2 cents is that it doesn't to me sound like you are ready to get rid of the Z - yet. Perhaps not quite ready to trade looks for practicality. On the one hand you say that you like the idea of there being only 1000 in the UK but on the other hand acknowledge that pretty much no-one other than you will appreciate this fact

Consequently, I think it is likely that you will end up regretting it if you change now

When I got rid of mine, I was convinced it was the right thing to do for me - and remain so. Not that I'm saying there is much wrong with the Z, there isn't, it's brilliant on many levels :teeth:

Practicality is not going anywhere in a hurry ;)

At the end of the day neither are bad cars. That said, it is nice when kids ask their Dad's if they can look at the car and the parents themselves are even keen to....... That won't happen with the Griffin, but you would have the power and practicality you're looking for. Is it time?! ;)

If it is, let me know of course..... ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

Decision was made yesterday, all set to buy a Silver one, but the colour was still annoying me a bit as it was my third choice .....from three.

Anyway I found a black one more locally that was just in. At first they we're 2k more, in the end though we got it down to £300 and I asked if they would tax it for a year, they said yes......done deal! :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

Keep your eyes peeled folks as when I come back from my holidays at the begining of October, I'll be shifting some parts on.

19" TSWs - I have a potential buyer for these, so these may not come up.

CF front cover

Cargo Net

Stubby - Go on Nixy!!!!

Home made Tonneau cover if anyone wants to pay postage on it (how much, no idea)

Original Nissan badges :teeth:
