coldel Posted August 6, 2014 Share Posted August 6, 2014 I *nearly* went for my stag do - but some volcano called eijafijadoholalalaa exploded and grounded all the flights! 350 Russ Posted August 6, 2014 Share Posted August 6, 2014 (edited) I went in October last year for a long weekend in Reykjavik. Absolutely loved it. I had heard some horror stories that it was stupidly expensive but nothing more than what it is at home. The weather was like a January day here with bright sunshine and clear nights. Temps of about 4-5 degrees with a bit of a wind chill on top but not too bad. We did the whale watching tour which was a bit poor as didn't really see anything also book a trip to see the northern lights with superjeep. Miles better than the conventional bus tour. Food was great could get pretty much whatever we fancied (Italian, curry, Chinese, steak) so well catered for there. We was b&b but didn't bother with the hotel breakfast as it was a bit pants but found much better in the town for not much money. Oh also the water smells of egg. I didn't think it was too expensive to be honest. I think the Blue Lagoon is a definite if you're going and perhaps an organised tour out to a volcano. People were very friendly when I was there 10 years ago. Mind you, I was only there for about 12 hours I think, flew out with a couple of 'mates' who's band were playing out there. Back to Iceland, we went in March a few years ago, and it was surprisingly warm (in a cold wet sort of way). We stayed at Hotel Ranga (great cocktails and smoked Puffin - just try not to think about it). We hired a 4WD skoda octavia and travelled to the localish sights. Reykjavik is great, not much more expensive than London really, lots of food, drinks, nice atmosphere, etc. We also went to see the geysers, the blue lagoon and some waterfalls, all good. Also spent a week bombing around the volcanic landscape on horseback for a week, but that's probably a bit specialist! :-p The landscape is awesome though, get out in to it if you can... 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Would love to go back there Small world. Did the same thing a few years back. We flew with 'Bruce Air' and saw them play in Trondheim, Norway. Now that is an expensive place.
