High Erratic Idle, 2007 Coupe. 70k mileage

Hi Guru's.

Just a quicky for you, i have recently purchased a 350z 313 GT, test driving i didnt come across any issues, anyway now i have a little problem as i am about to explain.

Firstly a point to note is that i have no Engine Warning Light (CEL) so i cant flash a code out of it.

When engine is up to temperature the idle will not drop, infact it is quite erratic rising and falling between 1500 rpm and 1750-1800 rpm at a stationary position, clutch fully down.

My first instinct was that the Throttle Bodies may need a clean, recent receipts that came with the car show a replacement TB in early 2013, so at this point i have not gone in and taken them off, all i have done is Idle Air Volume Relearn via a pedal dance (i have lots of practice in this with having previous Nissans, so im confident all was done correctly), Anyway the relearn did not solve the issue, I have also done the Throttle Position Relearn.

My question is before i resort to taking off the Throttle Bodies would i be better off going down the route of MAF cleaning first to eliminate a dirty MAF as an issue? or just go the whole hog, whip the lot off and get to work on both MAF and the TB's?

Or an even easier solution would probably be if any member on here has had a problem very similar can they point me in the right direction as to what the issue could be.

Cheers

Martin

Thanks for the super speedy reply Will, il get to work on that soon as i have finished my coffee, is it a good practice after to do some kind of a relearn again after or will the ECU do all the work?

It could be a number of things but most likely the MAF, I would start there.

I also used used rubbing alcohol and cotton wool on a MAF on my old Mec

but that was very dirty.

I'd be more concerned as to why the car is idling at over 1500 RPM!

PS. I think Will means the TB, because there is nothing to move on the MAF :)

Thanks Kyle yes' that's exactly the bit, the butterfly in the throttle body.

Little break in the weather so i could get started, ive got both MAF's out and sprayed (just waiting for drying out), right hand MAF (passenger side as i look at it) shows a missing screw as in the pic attached, could this be a culprit in causing an ingress of air that does not pass over the sensor?

no idea, but turn the car on, put your finger over the hole and see what happens?

Its a blind hole just for the screw to fasten too, MAF's are back in and just been for a spin and idle still hunting the same @1500-1750'sh when warm, will have a go at the TB's tomorrow

Preowned Throttle Bodies and MAF sensors are all in stock if required for 350z 313 GT HR.

Just drop me a PM if I can help further.

Alex. :)

I am putting a little list together for some bits from you as i go along (mainly interior bits and bobs), i will see what the outcome is from taking the car back to the dealer to have it put right first then contact you.

sounds like an air leak somehere (inlet, split pipe etc) and it is fuelling to compensate, hence the high revs..more air. more fuel

Good point, MAF's are now cleaned up, managed to get the TB's off and clean those out, drivers side was pretty clean, passenger side a little messy but cleaned up now, all back together and relearning done absolutely no change at all, so back to the dealers it goes while still under his warranty.

Hi Hooch, done that probably a dozen times now, I'm quite good at it after having a lot of practice before so I know that me getting it wrong is not an issue, the only thing that I have not done is the ECU reset only because there is no Engine Management light on so I can't see the point..

The car goes back to the dealer on Friday, today I went around the hoses and TB's with carb cleaner no change in idle but I swear ( or maybe my ears deceive me) I can hear a slight hissing noise coming from either behind or under the plenum, hard to tell with a v6 rumbling away at the same time :)

No Paddy, not done a thing at all apart from take out the MAF sensors for a clean and the Throttle bodies for the same treatment.. Only had the car for 4 days the problem did not show on the test drive just on the way home from the dealers, cold start up revs are fine once engine is hot then the problem shows, some American guy had the same problem (bit worse than mine though) he made a YouTube vid to show the issue, he says he sorted it with a new ECU,
