GT Driver
Anyone else experience this? I notice it when turning the wheel when stationary or moving very slowly such as 3 point turn. Whining noise starts when turning the wheel and it's slightly louder when on full lock either side. The power steering itself appears to be working fine with no real resistant. Just the whine is annoying me. Have checked the fluid - no leak noted and is sitting on the 'cold max' line when cold. I have not had to top up. Any ideas where to start... would a fluid change be likely to help?
Daveyboy11
I don't know if it's the same with Zeds as I haven't had the problem but my Fiesta ST done the same thing and I drained the fluid and put fresh in and it solved the problem so might be worth a shot!? wizurd
Could it be anything to do with the belt that powers the power steering slipping?
GT Driver
Very good point Wizurd. Which belt is which on the De Engine? I know there's two of them.
wizurd
Left one I believe. Worth checking and seeing what others think though .
Keyser
It's the pump under load turning when stationary is heavy load - well heavier than when moving and you can here it - and full lock is maximum load so the oil goes through the valve faster - more nosie You can change the fluid and bleed the system it may help but it's most likely a bit of wear - doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with the pump, I've heard low mileage nosier ones and high mileage ones that are still whisper quiet. Busters got noisy at one point so we changed the oil and it's been pretty good ever since
Jixaman
Is there a drain plug on the rack? I'm about to do this over the next couple of weeks...
ZMANALEX
Is there a drain plug on the rack? I'm about to do this over the next couple of weeks... No drain plug, so just got to take a hose off at the reservoir and also the cooler if you want most the old fluid out. Alex.
