SamN Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Hi guys, I replaced my boot lid with one in better condition but one of the boot struts is almost welded into the old boot lid. 12mm spanner does nothing but start to round, caked it in WD40, hit it with a hammer to shock the threads, mole grips don't grip it well enough as it's a slim nut.. I'm out of ideas!! Do I have any option other than to buy a new one/pair? Cheers Sam Quote
jumping350 Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 IM having the same problem with mine, apparently the ball bit pops out with a screwdriver then can get a socket round it but haven't tried, will be interested in any other suggestions Quote
jumping350 Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 You will prob have to buy another set,can get them from srg i think there called, around £90 and you can get uprated ones Quote
350 Russ Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 they do not come off with a screwdriver, there is a circlip inside the cup of the strut which holds it on, its impossible to get to. i had to cut mine off with a grinder. it the ball part doesnt unwind from the bootlid then its grinder time! Keyser Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 The careful use of heat sorted me out (you need oxy acetylene though) O and WD 40 is good for keeping water out that's about it Quote
SamN Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 So I'm pretty much just going to have to buy replacements.. Never mind! Quote

SamN Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 Just ordered some plus gas so will try that and heat first, otherwise I'll just have to order a new pair of struts! Quote
