Removing a stubborn boot strut - options?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I replaced my boot lid with one in better condition but one of the boot struts is almost welded into the old boot lid.

12mm spanner does nothing but start to round, caked it in WD40, hit it with a hammer to shock the threads, mole grips don't grip it well enough as it's a slim nut.. I'm out of ideas!!

Do I have any option other than to buy a new one/pair?

Cheers

Sam

they do not come off with a screwdriver, there is a circlip inside the cup of the strut which holds it on, its impossible to get to. i had to cut mine off with a grinder. it the ball part doesnt unwind from the bootlid then its grinder time!

The careful use of heat sorted me out (you need oxy acetylene though)

O and WD 40 is good for keeping water out that's about it :)
