Headlights (pre facelift) - Remove Orange Reflectors?

After great success baking my reverse lightin the oven last month, I wondered if the same can be done for the headlights?

I woukd like if possible to get rid of the orange reflector inside that runs down the edge.

 

Has anyone tried or maybe done this?

I think Husky had a project on headlights with this mod ... also P15ULT (spelling?) did something similar

i might know where to get hold of carbon inserts to replace the orange parts.

 

the headlights can be split and put back together, but the putting back togehter ahs to be done well to avoid misting and leaking.

I split mine with a hot air gun as they would not fit in my oven. Was easy enough tho, you dont need to open them all the way if you just want to get the orange strip out.

It would be easier if they made them so you could just replace them

I think I'm going to give this a go at some point. The idea of putting the headlights in the oven is a bit scary though!

The most important thing is to make sure they are re sealed again properly to prevent water ingress and condensation. I went round mine with black sikaflex (available on e bay) just to make sure. I used a heat gun to split them. There is a post somewhere if you search or a link to the US site. Try You Tube I seem to recall a few vids on there for other cars but same principle.
