Lee joe Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Hi guys I'll be on the hunt for a Z soon and just wondered if the HR was worth paying the extra for the performance.. From what I've read ( prob wrong lol ) but the 276 version has more scope for tuning? I mean is it realativly easy to gain 20bhp compared to the 309 or 297 car. Quote
hensh65 Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 If you are planning to mod then you should weight up the road tax gains from the 276bhp, but most people on the forum will replace the exhaust, HFC or decats and a plenum spacer before you would get it remaped. you are looking at over 1K for this, and 20 extra bhp is what you would roughly get. coldel Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 (edited) 20bhp is optimistic, i did a milltek, berks and plenum and got 17 which was apparently a good return on bhp. If you are chasing numbers, supercharge. Edited September 11, 2013 by coldel Quote
Lee joe Posted September 11, 2013 Author Posted September 11, 2013 Cheers guys, not really chasing numbers, an example though.. If I did Exhaust spacer Berkshire and map on a 276 and gained 17-20bhp would I gain that from a 309 car? Quote
Paddy78 Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 (edited) Probably not, but the 309 would have more power anyway. 276BHP is very optimistic to start with as most Zeds are quite a few ponies down from the figures quoted, so you may get it to about that after you've modded. If you can afford a 313 (309) then get that... the engine is much better than the 276/296. Edited September 11, 2013 by Paddy78 Quote
Lee joe Posted September 11, 2013 Author Posted September 11, 2013 Cheers paddy, think I'll go for a 313 then just get a nice zaust. Quote

NeilMH Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 I ended up with 299 on a DE with the addition of the bits listed below but it can vary quite a bit. My car only had about 28k on the clock when it was done. Quote
The Bounty Bar Kid Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 325 with uprev, cats, exhaust and cosworth panel filter. However Clown got 324 with just the cosworth panel filter and invidia exhaust. 1 Quote
Level 7 Boss Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 As everyone said, don't chase numbers. Improvements on mechanical grip and suspension shoud be first port of call. 1 Quote
