Tour of Silverstone - Now with Pictures!

Recommended Posts

Much to my frustration, I'd never been to Silverstone* in any capacity despite a few attempts in the past. On Sunday a mate and me had one of the official tours of the circuit, the BRDC club house and other various elements of the track. Apart from the early start, I'd certainly recommend it. The tour in total was just over 2 hours and was very informative with the tour guides all current racers (Ours was a Porsche advanced driving instructor) and very knowledgeable on all things Silverstone / Racing. It wasn't expensive either, being about £30 in total through Red Letter Days.

There was also an open Track Day going on around the full F1 circuit so got to walk around the pits and chat to a few of the guys, which was really good. I saw two 350's (Silver and GM) and a black 370 but didn't get chance to see if they belonged to anyone on here. We did see one guy write-off his S3 at Copse, he looked devastated as his GF was stomping around the car park pointing at the recovery truck! What made it all the more amusing, once we realised he was wasn't seriously injured, is we'd seen him lose it at the same corner the lap before and only just manage to get it back, seems he didn't learn his lesson. Some really nice cars on the track day, with Aston Martin, Porsche, RS8 and a few dedicated track BMW's in attendance too. The biggest cheer went to a guy in an A2 though, I admired his courage! I've got a few pictures and will put them up a little later in the week when I get home.

I also had my first proper scary moment in the Zed on the way home, coming off a roundabout and lost the back end on the slippery road. Thankfully, managed to get away with nothing more than a couple of seriously curbed alloys and a car full of expletives, but if there had been anybody next to me on the dual carriage-way it could have been a different story.

Yep, the collection of toy cars was also very impressive. :)

The lady giving us the tour was rather attractive... so I'm rather tempted with that Porsche experience!

Yes very impressive, they were collected by a Member and when he died his widow gave them to the Club.

Nice collection of silver ware as well. I dont go to Silverstone as often as I used to, only for the GP and maybe a few other meetings,

they have cut down our GP passes from 4 to 2 each year. Usually go to Brands now.
