OK guys I'm looking to get a dashcam for my zed as where I live nobody can drive, my mother recently had a woman turn into her on a roundabout and even though she admitted liability at the time as soon as she got home she started saying it was my mum at fault. Anyhows the claim went 50/50 but I've been thinking just to cover my ass what's a good dash cam for the zed? I ideally I want it to have good night vision and be discrete, does anyone know the best place to mount one also? Any responces are appreciated cheers :)

If you're looking for a camera that will be proof in an accident, I'd look at something like a roadhawk. The top end models will record all of the telemetry of the car and display it in a sort of HUD on the video playback. They're not exactly small, but they are very good at the job.

Alternatively, you could just mount a GoPro on your dashboard, although data storage and battery life may be an issue for long journeys. There is also a iPhone application that records on a continuous loop, you can mount it in a holder with a charger cable from the cig lighter, my dad uses this one, the videos are pretty good quality in fairness, and again, that can measure your speed if the GPS is enabled.

I bought a £20 off japan ages ago, simple but does the business, qualities not bad either. Just fumble about ebay to find one, check youtube for a review. It does loop after so many hrs recorded though, so if you have an accident, make sure you stop the video after it lol I never have mine in the car tho, bought it as a novelty

You need one with both forward and rear facing cameras.

A large proportion of prangs are rear end shunts.

You need to be able to identify the culprit.

Also if you hard wire them like I have, every time the ignition is turned on it records whats going on outside

or who ever is behind the wheel at the time.

I sat through 16 hrs of playback in January as I needed to find something.

Mine had recorded everything from August onwards.

I found what I was looking for and a whole lot more!

What one have you got Pete? I'm leaning at a gopro hero 3 for my ring trip

Its not HD like Dips is I use it just for protection and it has never let me down yet.

I am not sure if you can get a HD all singing dacing front and rear view in one unit under £300 plus!

Thats if you can find one!

Looks nice but I can see loads on eBay for like £60 dual view, any one got any experience with these?

yes me and my neighbor bought a couple and they were nasty.

Mine doesnt have a name as such but is called vehicle video recorder.

was about £180.

The black taxi company in london that has about 200 black cabs all have them installed and one of the drivers got it for me.

Buy cheap and you shall receive crap in my experience.

Not always, my £18 rear view numberplate eBay camera is spot on

Not if some one runs into the back and squishes it?

Then 10 mins later he same happens again!

Isn't that a camera with no recording facility? Just for reversing?

Could one of these cameras hook up to an aftermarket headunit that has capability for a camera input? Much like the alpine does with a rear view reversing camera, Instead of buying one of those you could buy one of these cameras?
