Struggling to find garage willing to mount tyres!

for a sensible price, may I add.

I got my Toyos for the WORKs from Andy, and went to my local Kwik-Fit who mounted my original tyres to the brand new alloys about 2 years ago.

Today they refused to do it (I didn't buy the tyres from them in either occasion! ) quoting Company policy.

Same for a National Tyres garage I'd used before and where I got my Milltek fitted.

Same story at another Kwik-fit....

went to an ATS garage and they said they'd do it.... FOR £50! when I told him no way, the guy had the cheek to say "you want them balanced, right?" WTF? going to take no longer than what, 15-20 minutes for both tyres? Since when a tyre fitter is paid £150/hr??? madness!

I'm sure I paid about £35 for 4 tyres mounted and fitted at the Kwik-fit I used the first time!

It's not even a case of putting them on the car, as I'm going to do it myself, the tyres and alloys are in the Yaris ready to be mounted!

Found another place who wants £20 per tyre, they'll be open on Saturday...

Is it me or this is still quite expensive???

Suggestions welcome

Mmmm I remember having this issue when I was looking at wheels in the past. I think its normally around £15 per wheel now..... well it was for the one I found. As I was struggling to find anywhere that did 19"....

I phoned a few of the big companies local to me to get mine fitted, a few wouldnt touch them because they didnt supply the tyres & the others wanted a minimum of £15 a wheel.

I phoned a small company about 2 miles from my home & asked about it and they fitted the tyres, balanced the wheels and even put them on the car for me all for £20.

1 Of the companies I tried would not even attempt to fit tyres to a set of 19s

Are you having any problems finding anywhere that will guarantee not to scratch the rims?

Im going to get a tyre replaced on Saturday, Im getting one taken off the standards I have, and put on the GT4 rim. Im taking the wheels off and having them balanced (dont want an air gun going near my rims).

Just hoping that the local tyre place near me will oblige in swapping the tyres over.

Last year when I was looking at this, Kwik Fit on Bury New Road in Broughton would do it. Also ATS just down the road from there (near Strangeways) would also do.

I ended up getting mine done by a place in Bolton, can't remember the name off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure I've still got their card in my desk at work - can it wait till Tuesday mate?

If you dont want your rims damaged, also check-out what the head on the bead stretching machine is made of. Many older or smaller tyre depots only use the ones with metal heads, whereas some specialist ones have heads made from another material which is less likely to cause scratches (I dont know what the material is called, but its simiar to nylon ot some form of silicon...)

Dude, the difference between 35 and 50 is 15 ... you travel all over town trying to save 15 quid... wtf?

:stupid:

yeah would be no point in going to St.Helens or anywhere far tbh, again it would defy the object of saving the money in the first place

The place is called Fast Tyres in Bolton, 01204 532999. The guy you need to speak to is called Faz (the owner).

I'm trying to get through to them at the moment cos I need some rears before the weekend. Let me speak to him first as (if he remembers me) he owes me a favour ;)

I had a tyre swapped on mine at Wingerworth Tyres here in Chesterfield.

They did state that any tyre swaps are at owners risk, and that they could not guarantee that the rims would not be marked. They did say that maybe one in every hundred they unfortunately get a hairline scratch around the rim, but mine were unmarked.

They did say that the problem is the standard bridgestone tyres are a pig to get off without lots of force due to their overly sturdy sidewall apparently.

Cost me £8 to have two tyres removed, one tyre fitted to a rim, and that wheel balanced.

I know. That wasnt for four tyres worth though.

If I took tyres and rims to them, they would fit and balance a set of 4 for about £20 or so.

I dont think 10 per wheel for tyre fitting and balancing is too bad. They are taking a risk with your rims, and after all the corporation taxes, VAT and fiters wages have been taken out - its not a massive profit for the company, as its not something they will be doing all day long.
