Steering Lock Failure..How Many

Without checking, I would have thought the OEM steering lock would be one of the factors that attract the Thatcham1 status that insurance companies want to see (if nothing else it could restrict a car being dragged onto a low loader for example - i.e. the theives who steal cars for parts), so I for one would be very wary at disabling the lock.

If Nissan have issued a recall (or even a TSB) about the issue that will not help matters, IMHO.

But if the insurance company is told an aftermarket steering lock is being used instead and they are OK with that, fair enough.

I have just pm'd skyinsurance just to get there take on this (i know this may also be down to individual insurance companies), im now intrigued as to how the general insurance business would see this.

I fail to see how a steering lock of any kind is going to stop a proffessional gang of thieves dragging a car with front wheels of the ground on to a low loader cos if it does then no car would ever be stolen in this way would it ?

Guys....the point here has been slightly missed, IMO.

If your lock fails locked, you will be stuck, unable to drive anywhere then you will need a recovery. Agreed, if you remove the fuse when it's unlocked you will be ok, however, your insurance in null and void!

Mine was done under warranty with out any issues apart from the time delay. This is a common problem with the GTR btw.
