Arran Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Afternoon fellas Just been to Nissan for oil filter, sump washer and a couple of small bits (excellent service by sharik at Croydon by the way) and I asked for some oil aswell, he came out with the 5w30 but it was only semi synthetic so I left it. What oil do you guys use? Quote
rtbiscuit Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 in the zed i used royal purple many others like fuchs titan pro S (used to be silkolene) go on the opie oil site search car specific and have a browse. Quote
Arran Posted August 3, 2012 Author Posted August 3, 2012 I've seen on opie they do some 5w30 pro S Titan race, looks pretty good tbh. I know the M3 boys rave about it Quote
glrnet Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I guess it's all a bit of a muchness, Abbey Motorsport suggest Motul so that's what I use Quote
rtbiscuit Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 any decent fully synthetic will do; you could spend mucho money and go amsoil which is pretty damn good stuff, but it costs a bomb. anything like fuchs, mobil1 etc will do Quote
Arran Posted August 3, 2012 Author Posted August 3, 2012 Pro s titan race it is Cheers guys, wonder why nissan give out semi synth though? surely cant be right Quote
rtbiscuit Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 semi synthetic is fine to be honest but people like to give their cars the best etc. it makes more of a difference if you do alot of "spirited driving" and offers a little more protection to the engine. but to be honest if you let an engine warm up properly first, change the oil on a regular basis, and keep it checked and topped up if needed then it doesnt matter. spursmaddave Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I get this from Costco, never had an issue, my Zed has never needed a top up between services Quote
14N Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Halfords regularly offer the Magnatec 5/30 Fully Synthetic stuff (as glamourously modelled by SMD) for £17.50 for 4 litres EDIT - Just checked, and they're currently doing the offer at the time of writing this post Quote
rtbiscuit Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 just watch the magnatec, it used to have a habit of going watery. i used it in the jag, but swapped to mobil one recently. if going castrol i'd be tempted with their gold top stuff . that or go browse opie. they have gulf performance stuff and lots of choice. 350z-Driver Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 I use: Castrol EDGE Professional 5W-30 Quote
rtbiscuit Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 couldn't remember its name so called it gold top, but yes the edge is good Quote
Arran Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 Ended up putting Pro S 5w30 in her, must admit it made the engine idle quieter, will try the amsoil in 6k miles time see what thats like. Quote
coldel Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 I used to use Mobil 1, to be honest though if you just bought the car with 60k on the clock or something you have no idea what the previous owners have been sticking in it, they could have been using sawdust and tar for all you know so sticking £100 worth of oil in now is going to make naff all difference. Just go for a known brand fully synth as recommended and you will be fine. Quote
Arran Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 It's got pretty much full Nissan history so has most likely had the Nissan oe stuff, good enough for me imo if it is that Quote
coldel Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 It's got pretty much full Nissan history so has most likely had the Nissan oe stuff, good enough for me imo if it is that The first rule of Zed ownership, never assume a Nissan dealership is competent. Quote
Dblock Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 It's got pretty much full Nissan history so has most likely had the Nissan oe stuff, good enough for me imo if it is that Most Nissan dealerships will fill the car with 10-40. When I buy a car I like to change the oil. Then drive for a few hundred to 1k miles then change again. It lets the oil clean up the engine gently. Quote
