Dblock Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Hi Guys, My lights are coming on the dash, traction, slip, abs and the other ones. Now it isnt storing the code so I cant read it. I have changed my tyres to 225/40/18 but before I was running 235/40/18. Its also not just the slip light thats coming on. It might be that but is there anything else it might be before I check the tyres? Abs sensor or low brake fluid maybe? Changing the tyres will be my last resort so please dont mention that first or say well this is why... Anything I can check before this? Thanks Quote

spursmaddave Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 My car had this last winter, ABS light, slip light etc etc it turned out to be a switch in one of my brake lights so when I was braking the ECU got confused as the brakes obviously came on but didn't tell the ECU!! Just a word of warning, when all the lights show you have NO electronic help so take it easy Quote

spursmaddave Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Thanks guys. I guesss it's a process of elimination Will report back Yeah I was worried it was an ABS fault and thought it would be expensive, but it turned out to be a£15 switch hope yours is as simple Quote
Dblock Posted January 15, 2012 Author Posted January 15, 2012 Took the car out today the lights came on when I was on the dual carrigeway. The battery isn't too bad but Il stick it on charge anyway. Il check the brake switch but I dunno I got a feeling it's abs related. As they changed my tyres and I asked them to look about fitting bushes. Il check the switch aswell though as it can't hurt. R35LEE Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 One of 2 things, Firstly check brake switch by unplugging and checking for green corrosion. If its not this and only happens when braking it have the the module under the steering wheel that deals with traction and ABS. Quote
Dblock Posted January 17, 2012 Author Posted January 17, 2012 The lights come on the dash when your driving on the dual carriage. Doesn't come on when you press the brakes. First they flash super quick like blink and you miss it then the lights stay on. Quote
Fodder Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Have you checked your brake fluid level? I ahd the same and checked the fluid level and that was low... however I checked my pads before topping up and they were low too so replaced and the fluid level retuirned to almost normal and no lighty. Dblock Posted January 18, 2012 Author Posted January 18, 2012 Didn't get to much of a chance to poke around. So far I've charged the battery. It was fine but left it to trickle charge for 1 day. Checked brake fluid it's full. Going to check what Lee suggested but it only seems to do it on the motorway. Quote
Darren-B Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Tyre sizes are the likely cause here, the rolling circumferences between front & rear are different so the ecu thinks the wheels are slipping Quote

Darren-B Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 I generally drive mine with the ESP off But for example, in the snow last year I had it on trying to navigate a slight incline on the motorway, tc was trying its hardest then all lights came up (ESP & abs)& I had no aids, blew the fuse. Have you checked the fuses? Quote

Have you checked the fuses? Good idea il check the fuses. Its just it comes on when going straight in a line usually on the motorway. But when I start the car drive it around its fine for abit then all the lights come on again. Quote
Darren-B Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 WhAt tyre sizes are you running both front & rear? Quote

Darren-B Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Stock tyres sizes Front 225 45 18Rolling circumference 558 Rear 245 45 18 rolling circumference 567 Quote
Dblock Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 I was running 235/40/18's on the front with no troubles though. If i do get more tyres they will be 235/40/18 Quote
Darren-B Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 I meant diameter in my last post rather than circumference , What size tyre are you running on the rear? If the offset of diameters is not within 10-20mm the car will read the wheel speeds differently thus tripping the lights For example the stock sizes: Stock tyres sizes Front 225 45 18 Diameter 558 Rolling circumference 1753 Rear 245 45 18 Diameter 567 rolling circumference 1780 Your old tyres: Front 235/40/18 Diameter 563 rolling circumference 1767 Rear???? Quote
Dblock Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 245/45/18 rear and 235/40/18 with 100% no problem. Quote
