350 Russ Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 tomorrow morning early doors im going to cut a hole into my front drivers side wing to fit an indicator where the previous owner had a new wing fitted and didnt get an indicator! i got a replacement indicator of gaz walker at envy but its not a simple hole its oval! im going to drill 3 holes then, get the dremel out and clean it up. Anyone got any tips?? Quote
P15UL T Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 remember to use that rust away stuff to stop it from rusting and them maybe some primer Quote
speedy Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Put masking tape on the area you want to cut. Sounds a little silly but it means you can draw and template and atcully see it, even while you are cutting... Quote

350 Russ Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 yeah i was planning to use masking tape, im also using a punch to stop it slipping, ive made a template out of carboard which is a perfect sized hole and fits spot bollock! thats a good call with the primer i didnt really think of that, ive also got about 5 different sized drill bits up to 21mm so it doesnt snag and dent the wing! its going to be nerve racking! rtbiscuit Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 if your drilling into meta, also centre punch where you want to drill, means you get it spot on and no drill slipping Quote
350 Russ Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 if your drilling into meta, also centre punch where you want to drill, means you get it spot on and no drill slipping haha a second late there Quote
rtbiscuit Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 lol snagging shouldn't be an issue, only if you use to much pressure when drilling. you need hardly any and just leave the drill bit to do all the work with the cutting. and like you said work up through the drill bits. Quote
Husky Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 big hammer and chisel and youll be fine are you tempted to continue with more of the wing after seeing pauls wing editing? Quote

350 Russ Posted January 1, 2010 Author Posted January 1, 2010 It was raining so I gave it a miss, and was far too hung over this morning! Might have a go at the weekend Quote
ChrisS Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 if your drilling into meta, also centre punch where you want to drill, means you get it spot on and no drill slipping haha a second late there If you can use a spring loaded centre punch,it will make the punch mark without any chance of denting. A hammer and punch might! Best of luck. Chris Quote
