Need to get something like an TurboXS Utec piggyback and then get this set up on a rolling road by someone experienced with this equipment.

 

Expensive but you can gain around 10% bhp.

 

Would you only gain the 10% if you had mods beforehand such as cams/plenum spacer or similar? I thought the stock 350z's ecu, even with a piggyback or remap, is at its limit already in terms of power and very little is gained if anything - unless the car is modified beforehand. The modifed ecu gets the fuelling spot on (vital after fitting cams or bigger mods) and any power increase is a bonus.

Have Chippeduk done any 350z's??? Would be interested to know what they have got out of a N/A modded car....

 

£380 is pretty cheap.... I take it there is no piggyback involved... If there isnt then is it possible to revert to a stock map for when it goes to nissan for service?

Dont think they've done one before. check out their site though. I think they look an OK place to go (unless you know any specialist Z guys in the West Midlands???)

 

I havnt got a clue if its a piggyback or not.

I was just phoning around a few places to check out some prices.

I think its gonna be an essential mod for me now though, so I will give them a call on Monday and find out a little more info and post it

15hp boost with chip alone and I bet all the aftermarket Intakes, exhausts and plenums will actually start to give you real gains aswel.

+1 - the guys in the states and to a lesser extent the guys here have tried and failed to release any sort of extra power from the stock car. It really is custom built for the power it has and being NA there isnt much more to be had. Unless these Chippeduk guys have real gains from a car they've done personally, I'd take what they say with a pinch of salt.

Its been hectic.

 

I can only go off what they told me.

I will ask if they can offer some sort of guarantee of some power gains.

If I get 1hp then I aint paying

 

I take it they will give me some dyno results of the gains

 

It might well be that especially if the ECU is reset, you would see some dyno gains immediately after install. However, a few ten of miles down the road once the short and long term fuel trim have reached equilibrium (a different one than before admittedly) most if not all of the gains would have disappeared :)

So if he dyno'd it for a third time say a month after, he'll then have results for the initial figures, the enhanced figures after the remap and then the revised figures after the ECU resets itself to a potentially new figure? So he could expect to get figures like 270, 285 and then a 275?

It's impossible to say exactly what the figures would be - but I wouldn't be surprised if the third figure was very close to the first, but could be higher or in some cases, could be lower :scare: The point is that the immediate-after-mod dyno would give an atypical result IMO

There is good (dyno over a period of time) evidence though that the equilibrium value after a plenum-type mod is higher than stock

I understand that those figures may not be correct but it was more the increments and subsequent decrease i was asking about..... therefore a dyno a few weeks later may show the real gain (or loss) :)

Doesnt that mean EVERY single mod that anyone does on this forum except FI doesnt work? because the Fuel/Air equilibrium would return.

 

I know that is the case for most plenum, intake, exhaust mods are concerned

 

But

 

Isnt that the point of the ECU remap. To make the fuel/air Eqil NOT return?

Yes, that's my view :)

 

To kingbiscuit, yes, you can have an ECU reflash (see technosquareinc.com) which could be tailored to your mods - absolutely - there are companies that offer this (can't recall names). But it will be expensive (generally more so than the mod) and will require in theory a re-reflash with every new mod.

Yes and no.

 

From my limited knowledge on the subject, the chip you are talking about will be a piggy back ECU. This will take what you tell it at the throttle and modify it to tell the ECU to give more fuel/air than it normally would at that throttle/rpm. However, the 350z has a learning ECU. So it will say "woooah there, you cant have that much sh*t, I'm going to cut back on it cos I know better then you". So the piggy back ECU can tell it all it likes to give a certain air/fuel, but the ECU will eventually tell it to feck off. The only way to get around this is something like a Utec (sp?) which truely controls the system rather than its inputs, but costs big bucks - around the £1500 region to buy and map properly - and gives very little bang for buck.

Right, I went down to chippedUK today and they said that they no longer do 350Zs

 

The car is already heavily tuned and they had not managed to get any great gains, so they dont remap them anymore.

 

 

I'm a bit gutted to tell you the truth.

One of the main reasons I chose to buy a Zed was because of the mods that can be done, cheaply and easily.

 

It looks as if the only wasy to get a decent upgrade is to go FI.

And I'm not up for the spend on that.

Even then the gains arent all that great unless you do your internals (twice as much again)

 

I'm so pi**ed off. I may sell my Zed and buy an already Supercharged or TT version, It will be a hell of a lot cheaper than starting from scratch

Rich, have you checked which ECU you have yet? As i said, you may be lucky and have the same as mine that doesn't dumb down mods!
