my zed has the common problem, only drivers side at the moment but is out of warranty.

i went to west way nissan in manchester yesterday and they told me it would be £175 all in to re-grease both axles.

does this sound good? i am hoping that if then it doesnt sort the problem it will kinda be their problem too.

be interested to know if anyone has had it done via nissan and what you were quoted and i suppose more importantly...did it solve the problem?

when i told them about the crunchy gearbox they said there was nothing they could do as to strip it down is not recommended and very pricey!

This sounds quite high for a re-greasing job - how much time are they talking about.

If you PM teddyonholiday, he may be able to help you re the gearbox and parts pricing but any decent gearbox specialist can whip the box out, replace the bits and put it back in at 1.5-2 days labour.

Re pricing, the attached spreadsheet shows info on parts, pricing and approximate cost on this from about 18 months ago

I know of a few people who have had them re greased and said its only a temporary fix and the problem came back

Yeh i agree - regrease is a temporary fix. Didn't someone put together a kit to fix this issue? I need to start looking into this myself as it affects my car too!

I had mine in there on wednesday for the clicking rear axles, it was done under warranty and all they done was a turn and grease job. I hope this isn't only temp but at least if it comes back I can say it wasn't fixed properly. I think the price for this job out of warranty is about £150, which I think is expensive for something that doesn't really require any parts and only takes about an hour and a half.

I don't understand why they do this, your clicking axles where probably no different to my clicking axles and yet no questions asked they completely changed them

the noise i can live with...but i was under the impression that it causes further problems and if a re-grease solves it for a time in suggests there is a lack of lubrication which is never good

to be honest unless i was a member on this forum i probably wouldnt have even noticed it and there must be 1000's of Zeds that are doing this but people are either unaware of they are just leaving it.

not sure what to do to be honest, do i leave it???? i can certainly find a better way to spend £150 of my hard earned.

I'm a bit baffled regarding these clicking axles... Whats the problem with not getting them fixed? I've been told you can only hear it if the windows are down and that its not a bad problem, it just makes a noise.

Because its a pain in the arse when its a hot day, your driving through town and everybody is having a gander at your car and you've got a bloody annoying click every time you pull off.

It is probably blindingly obvious that a re-grease will only mar the problem (the equivalent of wearing headphones IMO); if it was merely a question of re-greasing, there are a million and one grease formulations out there and one would've been found by now by Nissan. It's a design flaw

Good question sarnie "What is the experience of later model owners?" :)

For some reason the MY06+ owners are either very shy or it don't affect them...................... :headhurt:

hi there lads . Had a peek through the topic and has anyone got a defo answer to what it is . Both mine are doing it . From the noise i think its down to the lsd putting stress through the cv joints and causing wear . Which is to be expected but after this short a period ! Me thinks a design flaw . Does anyone know if the bearings are tapered or straight cut . Either way its either a new set of bearing caps or new cross . . Hopefully if its just the bearing caps im sure they could be sourced as like most bearings for a few quid . . Think i may look into this . If push comes to shove there is a propshaft specialist 5 mins from my work who has made me custom length cv/ driveshafts before for different applications . Think i may have a strip down this week . ? Any info of people who have got there hands greasy would be a plus . . .

i had the same problem!!! after speaking with nissan customer care and local dealers even though i was out of warranty they agreed to pay for all parts which cost around £550 and i had to pay for labour which was about £220 so got quite a good deal in the end

so speak with nissan customer care

  • 4 weeks later...

i had this "fixed" just before the car went out of warranty.

they ordered new clips or something? i can only assume its been a regrease...

and guess what, couple of months later, the clicking is starting.

i'll be back at the dealer on monday, demanding new driveshafts as it wasnt done correctly!

The nissan dealership I use for servicing told me it was the rear wheel bearings. They said it would be over £400 to replace but as there is no play and its just a noise not a problem. No mention of axle. Bloody annoying though:rant:
