gort Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Hi Guys. I'm going abroad for 2 months, so I'm thinking of disconnecting the battery for 2 months, will I have any issues when I return and start her up? ps... it's not possible to use a trickle charger, no power point near by. Thanks in advance. Quote
Jack94 Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 After 2 months the battery will be completely flat, whether you leave it connected or not, and probably need replacing by the time you get back. You'd be much better off leaving it on charge whilst you're away, even if that means removing it from the vehicle. The only problem with that is you're leaving the car without an alarm. Quote
KUGT4 Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 If batteries are useless after 2 months disconnected how do battery manufacturers store/sell them? 1 Quote
DoogyRev Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 I would say it would be better to disconnect it than leave it connected if you don't have a trickle charger. https://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2016/10/leaving-your-car-for-a-while-here-s-one-mistake-you-should-never-make.html Going anywhere nice? 1 Quote
KUGT4 Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 I'd also run your aircon for a while before leaving it any length of time as issues can arise if left for months without use 1 Quote
Stewal Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 A disconnected battery will not go flat in 2 months. There is only a very tiny self discharge current. Reconnect after 2 months and it should have no problems starting the car. Quote

Jack94 Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 The battery won't currently be at 100% charge, and once it goes below 80% the cells can be damaged. The self discharge rate can be up to 10%/month. Quote
muzzer Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 If disconnecting the battery but leaving it in place, which terminal is best? And how should it be protected so it does not risk shorting out on the bulkhead? Thanks Quote
KUGT4 Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 Negative, isolate with a disposable rubber glove wrapped around it 1 Quote
