Flex Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Someone once told me they're pretty pointless, who's opinion I would say is normally rock solid. Just wondered what the general consensus is? Quote
ZMANALEX Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 If you have a performance issue or if you you have the plugs out for routine servicing, then why not. Quote
Flex Posted December 2, 2015 Author Posted December 2, 2015 If you have a performance issue or if you you have the plugs out for routine servicing, then why not. I havent bought it yet Alex, I just wondered what everyone thought. And as for performance issues, dont tell everyone!! lol. Quote
Grundy Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Well if it's the car I'm thinking of (or a likely scenario) Dan (Ekona) did, ended up buying a solid car Torqen (octet) didn't, ended up buying a car that blew up. Quote
Tricky-Ricky Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I will always try and do a compression test if the owner will approve, and even better if you can do one cold and then hot it will give a good indication of bore wear and ring seal, but that's all, if you want to know more a leak down test is the way to go, but your not going to be carrying a compressor around. Flex Posted December 2, 2015 Author Posted December 2, 2015 I think at the end of the day, yes it's going to be worth it but the car is 20 years old, has had some good maintenance carried out on engine but it is 20 years old has been tuned upto 500bhp (then de-tuned to 385) any car that's been put under that sort of strain is going to have potential issues and there's no way to guarantee it wont go pop without spending gazillions. I'll get test done anyway and just accept it will need a lot of money throwing at it in the future anyway. Quote
Tricky-Ricky Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Both R34GTT and GTR have slightly better/tougher engines than the R33s, pop over to the Skyline forum if you want to pick peoples brains, although its pretty quiet these days. 1 Quote
