Any idea what this is?

Hello all

 

Spotted this attached to the back of my rear view mirror and have no idea what it is or does.

There's no mic hole so not a microphone and the wire goes behind the roof covering.

 

Anyone know?

The wire doesn't actually go into the mirror and the thing is just stuck to the back of it.

My guess would be the microphone for the hands free, its normally on the windscreen behind the mirror, but maybe you've had the windscreen replaced and who ever did it just put it on the back of the mirror.

 

Actually just goggled it and its Ariel for the hands free kit, it was used before Bluetooth was introduced.

Maybe some kind of garage door/gate/motorway toll thing that requires power for some reason?

I would say either digital antenna for DAB or Mobile phone aerial

Does seem to be the old phone cradle thing then. Just had me intrigued. Thanks for the help guys, shall get it fixed back in place.

It is the microphone for the hands free kit, fat lot of good it is pointing forwards. Should be stuck to the windscreen pointing towards you.

You can see it hanging loosed whilst I had a new screen fitted the other year.

It was stuck back onto the screen up against the headlining.
