  1. Excellent table! ...but is it just me, or are the last four entries really required for the Z??? Steve
  2. Ah ok, in one of them??? Can't actually remember seeing anything there...but there are a few of those cubbys so maybe I didn't look in all! ...or do you mean it's hidden behind the trim somewhere? Will investigate more tomorrow Cheers, Steve
  3. Evening all, Just had a poke around the car today and wondered where the amp is for the BOSE system? Is it really obvious or very well hidden Anyone point me in the right direction here? Cheers! Steve
  4. Hello, I have the same thing in mine - the speed reading on the pod seems to be in miles but the dte is either very optimistic, or it's still in km. Think you can buy a replacement uk dash pod, with everything in miles and mpg? But this isn't top of my list, so not looked into it myself. Maybe someone else can help? Steve
  5. Thanks for the info guys, I'll give mjp a call tomorrow. Andy - the part I'm after is in the pic attached, the broken door of my 2003 cubby hole is on the left, you can see it's a more glossy grey/black than the matt-black 2004 replacement - on the right. Let me know if you've got one of these - I'll be interested! Cheers, Steve
  6. Hello, Only had the Z a week and I'm having problems with my cubby hole! The front has broken off, so I need to fit a replacement unit - thankfully the previous owner included a brand new replacement in the sale of the car... However when I came to fit it, I found it is a slightly different colour! - the new cubby is matt-black, but my dash is 'slightly-shiny' black (JDM 2003). I guess they must have changed the design in 2004? - The replacement was made in 04 according to the samp on the side. Any idea where I could get the correct colour cubby from, and how much these go for? I'll be putting this one up for sale/swap if I can find a good 03 one. Cheers, Steve
  7. Nice one! I'm off for my weekly poker night in a mo, bit low on cash tho, after picking up the Z at the weekend All the best for the night! Steve
  8. Did my JDM key today, took 5 minutes, was a simple 3v CR1620 battery. Steve
  9. Vehicle details could not be found hummm.... free????
  10. VED Tax bands are a crazy way to try to impose 'being green' on us. Completely misses the point, especially this 'first year tax band' - what's that about? Does the car get greener with age? TBH the fairest tax is probably tax on petrol, you only pay if you drive, and if your car chucks out CO2 you burn more petrol, so you pay for it... but then we're already taxed at the highest rate in the civilised world for petrol. So only one thing for it - sell the Z and buy a pre-2001 gas guzzler
  11. I'm in Hertfordshire, just north of the M25. Yes, sounds like I'll need to get a certificate, should be somewhere in North London that can take a look I hope... The insurance really is random numbers - had quotes from £588 to £1600, some requiring Cat 2, some Cat 1 and some trackers... Thought the companies wanting a tracker would give a sensible quote, but no, they were some of the highest! Does anyone really pay the top end of those prices??? Pick up the Z in 5 days now can't wait! Steve
  12. As far as im aware, JDM cars have the NATS factory fitted alarm and immobiliser as standard, but is classed as a Cat2 as they dont have some of the interior sensors that are required for a Cat1 status Oh, is the factory-fit system operated when you lock on key fob? Think you can check if it's got an immobiliser by opening up the key fob, removing the small cube-shaped black transponder, put it (and your spare key) a long way from the car (ie. upstairs in the house), then try starting with the transponder-less keyfob... This is how I checked out security on my last car. Tesco's online quote didn't get me very far (>£1000) will give them a call see if it's much different tomorrow. Cheers, Steve
  13. Hi guys, cheers for the info! Hadn't considered Tesco (are they not part of direct line insurance - tried direct line, but they wanted a tracker !!!) Will give tesco a go now and see what comes up. Best quote I've had so far is Admiral, down to £588 with a reasonable mileage limit, greenlight and keith michaels are very close, but have much bigger excess... Steve
  14. Hi guys, thanks for the welcome and advice tbh I hadn't thought about getting someone to issue a new certificate, what's your experience - most fitters likely to do this? Having been in UK since 2003 I'm sure it must have suitable security - else how did the last two owners ever insure it? Steve
  15. Hello, Great site you have here, just came across it accidentally! I'm in the process of buying a JDM Z which was originally imported into the uk back in 2003. Everything is legit with the car, full UK service history and MOT certs etc. but it's changed owners in the UK a couple of times now, and the seller doesn't have the original SVA docs or paperwork. Problem is my insurance company is refusing to insure against theft without a CAT1 alarm/immobiliser certificate. But surely the car must have at least an immobiliser to pass SVA (is that right, even back in 2003?) so I'd not like to fork out £300+ for a new alarm immobiliser if there's already one on the car which is perfectly good? Anyone experienced similar? or thoughts on how to solve this one? Thanks all! Steve
