    110K, 2005 GT4

At around 100k, I’d be looking at changing the dampers on any car anyway, so it’s about time regardless. The screencap is hard to tell anything either way, could be leaking at the top though from that. Could also just be dirt

  2. Age/mileage of the car?

And without getting underneath there, you can’t really tell. Tbf to the dealer, it’s not normally something that is blagged as a leak is an obvious thing, and if it’s a tiny one you might not even notice any day to day loss of damping at the rear.

  3. I can still recommend a 645ci if you want a v8 manual, chuck a couple of grand at the suspension and it becomes very much less barge like. Hell you could buy one, mod the crap out of it and still have enough left over for something else fun.

Caymans do end up with oval pistons so be very careful.

    There's a nice nismo 20 plate  2k miles for 32k on ebay

On the MA1 lump? I’ve not seen any examples of that, got any links?

  5. I found my 997 to cost exactly the same as my 350Z, in terms of pure basic running costs (servicing, brakes, tyres, fuel etc). I can’t see a 981 being significantly more, however I wouldn’t run a PDK without the OPC warranty. Incredibly reliable gearbox, but if it goes pop…

The engines are far more reliable and I wouldn’t give that a second thought from that side.

  6. Are running costs an issue? If so your choice is much more limited than if you’ve got a bit of cash to spare.

But yes, a Cayman in the obvious choice, but one with a six not a four in the middle. V8 Vantage worth a look, as is an R8, and every petrol head should try a Lotus at some point in their life.

  7. If you potter around then the Falkens will be fine. If you drive your car properly you WILL notice the difference from better tyres.

You’ll also get ridiculous mileage out of the MP4 range: I’ve still no idea how my current rears are now approaching 20k miles with plenty of life left

  8. Looks like a boggo standard exhaust to me, no reason to get one when there other more proven systems on the market for the same money tbh.

I’m sure it’s okay though, but nothing special.

  9. My best mate did that on our last trip to Spa: walked to the counter in the services and in very nervous but adequate French asked for a ham and cheese toaster with a double espresso, only for the lady behind the counter to reply “thank you for trying, but I don’t speak French!” in perfect English  I was in hysterics then when I tried to order a pizza next, as Mark slunk off very embarrassed to our table

  10. I did 4400 miles around France, Andorra, spain, Gibraltar and Portugal a few years back in the 911 on my own. I 100% took a sleeping bag, trust me you’d rather have one and not need it…

Aside from that, all you need is health insurance, breakdown cover, lots of spare fuses and spare power cables for your phone etc. Just enjoy it, long road trips on your own are ace and be prepared to adjust your route/hotels on the fly in case you fancy doing something different. Like me, when I went to Gibraltar unplanned

  11. It’s a service. It’s a Nissan. It doesn’t require anything spectacular or some nifty bit of kit, so I’d be using whoever was local with a good rep, preferably a small garage that will appreciate the business.

Yeah, I'm cautious just because it will be a private sale.

Ha ha, I did think about following it back myself. It's a couple of hours away though so would be a bit of hassle for me.

I think I'll have to probably book my own transportation. I just don't know any companies so will have to get on Google.

Couple of hours is nothing, what price peace of mind when you’re spending a couple of grand?
