  1. Just caught up with this having been busy with work the last few days. Andrew, without any exageration, this is the best news I've heard all week! Phil is such an important part of our community that to not have him around wouldn't bear thinking about. I am so pleased for you and your family that you have made it through a very difficult time. I sincerely hope that Phil's road to recovery is a short one and he's back on his feet soon. Carleton
  2. I just logged on to the site after being away for a while and was deeply shocked and saddened to read such news. While my dealings with Phil was fairly limited (so far), I appreciate how highly he is thought of, and the high regard the site has for him. I wish the speediest of recoveries for Phil, and my thoughts and support go to all of you at what must only be a very worrying time. I sincerely hope we'll being seeing Phil's advice and input back here very soon. Carleton
  3. That's right, I hate them, too. Well said.
  4. Yeah, it would be a real benefit in such a scenario. Reverse cams are just stupid and pointless and sh!tty, though.
  5. I was driving down from Middlesbrough last night when some inconsiderate little scrote pulled right out in front of me forcing me to brake rather hard. I flashed my lights at him to let him know there were other drivers on the road, and he slammed on his brakes, really hard, nearly causing me to right into the back of him! A forward facing, recordable camera would certainly be useful if I were to have collided with him. He wouldn't have a leg to stand on in court!
  6. I had mine placed in the JDM plate, too. But what a waste of money! I wish i'd saved the cash and bought something useful, like reverse sensors. I never even bother looking at mine anymore. They give p!ss poor depth perception and even when the image is filled with what you're reversing up to, you're still miles away. I thought it was me at first, but I asked a friend to watch the screen and tell me when to stop when he thought I was close enough to the car behind. I stopped at his say so, he got out and was amazed to find me a good 4 feet away! Absolute sh!te!!!
  7. "Sir?" "Sir?" "HEY YOU, BEAR F**KER!"
  8. Definitley interested in the glass, but don't really want the whole unit. From my understanding, there are variations in the GM colour and it's distinctly possible this won't match with my car. If you want to suggest a price for the glass, I'd be very happy to haggle
  9. Bureaucracy gone mad!!! And that old Jobsworth/little Hitler syndrome!!! but still funny
  10. honestly, don't do it Nix. There are somethings nobody needs to see, and this is one of them, it reall is that disgusting.
  11. Nuts! too late! goggled it before I'd read this far, it's one of those things I wish I could unwatch
  12. A young ventriloquist was doing a show. With his dummy on his knee, he started going through his usual dumb blonde jokes, when a blonde in the second row stood on her chair and started shouting: "I've heard enough of your stupid blonde jokes," she screamed. "What makes you think you can stereotype women in that way? What does the colour of a person's hair have to do with her worth as a human being? It's people like you who keep women like me from being respected at work and in the community and from reaching our full potential as people. It's all because you and your kind continue to perpetuate discrimination against not only blondes, but women in general – and all in the name of humour." The embarrassed ventriloquist began to apologise, whereupon the blonde yelled, "You stay out of this. I'm talking to that little bastard on your lap."
  13. GM roadster on Heroes tonight, very bling wheels too. I hate Heroes!
  14. A slightly belated welcome to the site, Matt. It's always nice to see a fellow Devonian join on here, so I hope that I'll be seeing on the roads very soon. All the best, mate. Carleton
  15. Okay, so a week or so with the new camera, and I'm starting to get my head around the functions. To be honest, I'm amazed at the quality of the images created just by using the 'auto' function and letting the camera decide what works best. But I have been trying out different combinations of settings between the shutter speed and aperture, er.... thing. I have figured out that at low light, the shutter speed need reducing to allow as much light in as possible, the draw back being focus issues when hand held (bought a tripod now ). In strong light, with moving objects the shutter speed should be higher to capture the image. I know also, that the aperture, er...thing gives me vary degrees of depth of field. A higher F stop number increases the aperture opening, increasing both the amount of light in and a tighter/smaller area of focus, and the lowering the F stop decreases the aperture and gives a broader range of focus across the whole shot. At least, I think it's that way around, and can anyone explain why it's called an 'F stop' and what the numbers relate to? I have also grasped the ISO/film speed thing and know that a higher ISO number is for lower light conditions (I have the camera set to 200 for normal daylight use). So, how am I doing? I think I'm starting to get the hang of it, but I need more practice, particularly with composition, but I'm hoping that will come. Can anyone offer any more tips, ie what I should definitly avoid, or what would be optimum settings? I'm not even close to going full manual yet though! Interesting what Luke said about the flip out screen being a drawback of the camera, though. It's my understanding that there are very few SLR's that have a flip out screen at all. So having one with even limited movement HAS to be a bonus, doesn't it? I can take pictures above people's heads, or from down below waist height and still see what I have framed. Rock on! Cheers guys
  16. Thanks for all the input, guys. I looked at that CS3 software and from what I gather, for now at least, it's best left to pro's. I loaded in the software disc that came with the camera, and that has image manipulation features, but I guess on a more basic level, and that scared the sh!t out of me!!! I'm not used to this at all, and I think it's going to take some time to get my head around it all. I really like the idea of getting creative with photography, but I'm such a novice, I don't know where to start, ha ha!! I'm just hoping that I can get some ideas together before my holiday to make the best of any pictures I take. I'd hate to get home, learn some new technique and wish I'd known about it while I was away. As far as cards go, I have 2x 2gb cards now, but I'll definitley get more before I leave. how often do cards become corrupted that I should think of getting more smaller cards than one big one? I think I need to try and get used to the camera before I start playing around with the software otherwise it's just information overload! I looked at the website link that was posted here before, but to be honest, I'm crap at treading stuff like that on a computer, I get bored and start looking at smut again!!! Perhaps i should invest in an idiots guide book or something.
  17. I wasn't about to sit there with this guy and say "well, actually officer you're wrong....". I simply listened to what he said, nodded at the right moments whist looking sheepishly at the footwell. I was caught bang to rights and had no defence whatsoever. So if he'd have told me black was white I would have agreed with him so as not to make the situation any worse. As a result, my overall countenence worked in my favour and I was let go without even a ticking off. I am no friend of the Police as in institution, but I'm not going to provoke them when I'm clearly in the wrong. This one copper wasn't full of the arrogance that I've experienced from others that choose that profession. Made a pleasant change.
  18. OT ... but you can buy a cuddly toy of the lions etc http://www2.printshop.co.uk/Weebl/Shop/ ... egory.html I see, I see, very good, yes I can see how this helps me choose a FRICKEN SOFTWARE PACKAGE FOR MY CAMERA!!!!
  19. I thought that was VASCAR,it works as follows, you pass a set point and they start a stopwatch, they pass the same point and start the distance measure, you pass the second point and they stop a stopwatch, they pass the second point and stop the distance counter (all this in the VASCAR unit - alternatively they can pre-input a distance and just start and stop the clock over the distance ) they now have time over a distance and VASCAR crunches out the speed. I just wondered how this thing was operated. They see you pass a bridge or start???? see you pass and stop????? Obviously parallax type errors and reaction times would make an impact. Just my suspicious mind in operation perhaps. If I was 2 mph over a ban limit and it hadn't been done with something very reliable I would be kicking and screaming all the way to court..... I don't know the intricacies of it all, but I guess he followed me as I passed under one bridge, started his gadget and as I passed under the second bridge (exactly half a mile away), stopped it. The onboard compooper system unit then calculated the time, distance and speed according to Archimedes counter rabbit principle law of Pythagoram, this then alerted him to the fact that Iwas indeed going very, very fast!
  20. No it isn't? On what basis? You bozo** ** to provoke a response On the basis the speed limit hasn't changed in years and cars have got far better at braking etc, I don't think winding it up on a quiet by-pass/motorway is too much of a problem Hyur hyur, well said that man
