had another listen out for it today. It's in any gear, louder at low speed then gets better as you get faster and the engine drowns it out a bit.

if you were going to try something as drastic as fine sandpaper what about a really fine grade steel wool? I have some really fine stuff that I've used on exhaust pipes without it stratching but you can get even finer than that. At the end of the day if it goes wrong you can still get the wheel refurbished for about £50.

yes i have. I wondered if it was tyre noise, I only hear it when I'm going at a steady slow speed. Do you think that's it then? My son started scaring me by saying wheel bearings!

When I drive at relatively low speed (30 ish) in say 4th gear I can hear a repetative throbbing type noise coming from somewhere. It's one of those noises that could be perfectly normal - any ideas?

I think it's quite cool that it resulted in you having a chat at the traffic lights and taking an interest in each others cars. Very refreshing!
