  1. There maybe some differences in the rear setup of the car compared to a UK model. It depends on the year. The oldest JDM models had a different suspension setup that was revised for the Euro market.

A breakers yard should easily have those parts. Most crashed Z's I've seen online have been front impact.

  2. thats just rediculous, there should be no way a dog can find it's way onto a track, especially at a Formula 1 race. Poor dog.

It didn't. Was a GP2 race and it happened twice. First dog was obliterated. Second was caught by the marshals. The FIA will make a big deal of this as under the rules no dogs are allowed into any of the areas including the spectator areas. I would guess that both were pets as opposed to strays and someone let them in. Animals on the circuit are taken very seriously. Look what happened to Cristiano da Matta.

On August 3, 2006, Cristiano's car was involved in a collision with a deer that ran in front of him as he headed towards turn 6 during Champ Car open testing at Road America. He hit the deer with his right front tire, the deer then flew back and hit da Matta in the cockpit. It is believed when the deer hit da Matta in the cockpit, he was knocked unconscious. He remained unconscious with his foot still on the brake when the safety crew arrived and extricated da Matta from the car. Da Matta was then airlifted to Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah, Wisconsin, where he underwent surgery to remove a subdural hematoma. Following the surgery, da Matta was placed in an induced coma, to allow for the swelling to subside. As of August 7, da Matta was making "slow but steady progress", while the doctors were working on reducing da Matta's level of sedation. This slow recovery was confirmed on August 9, as it was reported that Da Matta was able to move "all of his extremities spontaneously as well as in response to physical stimulation". On August 20, Da Matta was transferred out of intensive care. On August 30, Da Matta was confirmed to have made steady progress, conversing in English and Portuguese, and walking short distances. On 21 September 2006, Christiano was allowed to leave the hospital after having recovered better than expected.

When the Champ Car World Series returned to race in the Grand Prix of Road America on September 24, Cristiano da Matta gave the traditional command - "start your engines". Throughout the next couple of years, he engaged in a training and therapy regimen while deciding his racing future.

On March 20, 2008, da Matta climbed back into a race car for the first time since his accident, completing a two-day test in a Riley Daytona Prototype prepared by reigning Rolex Sports Car Series champions GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing. He found speed right away, and team owner Bob Stallings said "the comeback has begun." da Matta said, "After the test, I realized 'I still know how to do this, I remember this very well. The biggest thing I felt after the test was just a sense of relief. For me, it was a big, big relief, bigger than big." Plans are being laid to pair da Matta with another former Champ Car champion, Jimmy Vasser, and enter Rolex Series racing at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in May.

  3. This morning I went with some mates to the Mondello motor racing school for beginners. Great fun but didn’t last half as long as I’d want.

First we went out with individual instructors at the wheel in stripped down Mazda 3’s for a couple of laps. The instructor was great. He races in British F3 and finished 5th last year. He explained each corner with it’s boards denoting braking and turn-in points. Then we took over and were let out with a gap between each car. Immediately I caught the first car in front and slowed down as it was a beginners group and we could only over take during designated points. The instructor said put you foot down and keep up with him. So I did. During the next 4 laps I caught and passed two more of them. It also helped when the instructor told me to ignore the braking signs and brake much later. The Mazda 3 was an interesting car. I could throw that thing into the corners without a second thought. Not at all what I was expecting from it.

Next we went out in single seater Formula Sheane cars. I started second and followed a safety car for two laps to get comfortable with the car. Was my first time in a single seater and was made all the more interesting by the shifter on the right hand side which looked like an old F1 style thing and no dials. Just a temp gauge and nothing else. The clutch and brake peddles only travelled about 2 inches and we had to start them off in 2nd gear as 1st was just a waste of time. Safety car pulled in and we all stopped on the start finish line to give the marshals a chance to give us a staggered start. Again I caught the first car by the end of the first lap and was let through. I then went for it for the next 6 laps getting faster and faster and setting the fastest lap on my 5th lap which I then bettered on my 6th lap. At this stage I was almost close enough where they’d have to blue flag the guy in last place but as I was exiting the first corner of a series of S bends I accelerated too hard too early and spun. Kept the engine running and got going again immediately but they gave me a black flag to bring me in for a chat. They asked what happened, said fair enough and let me go again. Was a little annoyed that they’d brought me in but as it was a beginner event that I’d never done before I understood.

All in all it was brilliant. Always wanted to get into racing but the finances don’t exist. I’ll definitely be doing the intermediate and advanced courses at some point. You guys in the UK have so many tracks available to you. We have one. I would definitely suggest you get down to one and have a go. Especially in a single seater if you can. Approx 100mph in a car with no dials is an amazing experience, driving purely on the feel of the car.

  4. No recall has been issued for MY07 cars in Ireland. My dealer will be looking into it as there’s no reason why there shouldn’t. UK and Ireland cars come from the same plant.

  5. +1, Would take it as a sign that someone thinks you need a tyre upgrade, anything but Bridgestones.

You guys crack me up - 1500 miles and replace all the tyres! Fine if you've got money to burn.

    :headhurt:

Anyway these are RE050s not RE040s and in my own experience a superior tyre.

    +1

Is the RE050A a the runflat version?

  6. I got nothing and don't expect to. Manufacturers here have a habit of not sending recalls out to anyone that doesn't buy the car new. My MY07 is ex demo. Can you scan what you received and post here or pm?

Cheers mate. I'll get onto them first thing Tuesday.
