  1. Check the channel setting - people with wireless problems usually fix them by setting the channel on their wireless router to a high number, then matching that on their client (laptop in your case). No science to back this up, just experience. Other possibilities: 1) You have configured both clients (PC, laptop etc) with the same IP address. That makes you an idiot, and you have to send your Lambo to me NOW! 2) If you are losing wireless connectivitiy (0% coverage message, or "Lost connectivity" message) then you need to take your steel toothed dog collar off. 3) Open the Lambo doors, perhaps the connectivity will improve. HTH
  2. I had more fun telling my missis this than myself... nothing to do with the wine, mind you....
  3. yeah I noticed that Northern Bank are paying a 53m dividend and a nice 1.3m bonus to the top brass, whilst UK Gov (ie. me and thee) bank rolls it. Arse.
  4. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/f ... 010415.stm But how else are brokers supposed to afford Lambos?
  5. Who's your VMware rep? They should be able to sort it for you? 3i, AFAIK, is only shipped with h/w, not sure about downloading it... although it was available @ VMworld on a key - but I didn't get a key as a lowly employee...
  6. Agreed, Rob, good luck mate! ANything I can do to help, just shout
  7. So what's the alternative to buying and running VMware? If you had 14 blades with four CPUs ( 2 x dual core) then you could run, conservatively assuming 4 VMs per CPU 4 x 4 x 14 = 224 VMs for about $100K + server hardware, which means about $446 each (plus s/w costs). Not bad for a dynamic, highly-available, agile etc. platform! Assuming up to 8 VMs per CPU, you can get 448 VMs for about $223 each. Add on to that the OpEx savings like manpower, the sheer ease of use which in my SysAdmin days was the most important (Smart and Lazy ), not to mention the drastic improvement in customer service as they can get servers in a day instead of six weeks, and the higher utilization you get / RoI because you are using all of the servers, and you'll be saving the planet by not having to use all the power required for 448 physical servers (instead you'll be using 14!). No brainer!
  8. too advanced for you ruby? errrrr just abit! haha I'm sure if i read it fully i'd understand it but just scanning the page is confusing. It's straightforward once you "get it"... and we've all had to "get it" at some point Best way to understand virtualization is to try VMware Player/Server for free, or buy VMware Workstation (PC) or VMware Fusion (Mac) and try it out. For example, with Fusion you can use your MacBook for work with your corporate Windows XP running on the same laptop in a virtual machine. All you need to do is clone your XP hard disk into a virtual disk (tools for that), power it up on your Mac and you are away! No need for two laptops, use your favourite laptop, and the corporate bods @ IT will be none the wiser! Unless they are like a bank and really lock down everything to specific hardware (boo!). Cheers! Steve
  9. ESX 3i is $495, not sure why that is expensive? You get "foundation" for that, and to use the other tools like vMotion, HA, DRS, you just need the extra licenses - no code changes, or upgrades, they are "enabled" by the license. BTW, when you say it is expensive, are you comparing it to the total savings in a TCO? The CapEx and OpEx savings are ridiculously enormous if you get the right utilization rate / Guest : Host ratio? Just picking one customer I know they avoided capex of $1.3M, reduced power by 18%, improved deployment times to one business day, etc. Add all that up and money is never an object....
  10. Did anyone from here go? If you did or if you didn't, and want to access all the presentations (slide decks and audio using Camtasia, which is easy to access) go to here. You need to register to get all of them, but there's some great stuff - not just sessions, but labs too! Not all of them are uploaded yet (the conference only finished last Thurs) but it shouldn't take them long. If you want to hear my dulcet tones, I did IO17 - Breaking down barriers to VMware technology adoption! An hour on what can go wrong! Cheers Steve
  11. Wouldn't it be funny if Alonso ended up at Ferrari!
  12. Holy crapola! Great write up, Tere, now I'm cacking it!
  13. Excellent write up! We always stay in Bad Munstereiffel - its a brilliant 25 min drive from the Ring. We got diverted the last time and ended up chasing each other (I was with another Z, two Scoobies and an M3) through alpine trees on an amazing windy road - awesome! Can't wait to go again next year at the end of May - might try to get there before, the Z handles great on there but I was a passenger in my mates in his M3 and that truly is an awesome machine, respect.
  14. Don't you have the owners manual?
  15. Just got the Xbox Elite and plan on being a Forza Online addict - need to get a new 42" HD flat screen to benefit!
  16. The guy broke a contract - his EULA. As part of the terms and condition of sale vendors always put verbiage in to prevent "reverse engineering" and stuff like that... so he's broken the terms and is liable to legal fun and games.
  17. fookin nightmare, mate, will you be on Beadle's About soon?
  18. Took it to garage... check light was something to do with Throttle Position Indicator? It cleared, anyhoo. That would make sense after the slight "lurch" I had. And the tick-tick-tick noise... probably a bloody stone in the tyre! Funny how you never notice those noises until something goes wrong
  19. oil is fine... about 3/4 when cold. the ticking only happens when I'm moving, not on idle. I will call the garage on Monday and see what they can do. Wish I could read the error code...
  20. Dropping from 3rd to 2nd and felt a slight "pause" and the engine light + ESP came on... pulled over... then returned home (just 10mins away!), and on way back could here a constant tick tick tick coming from near the front! I opened the bonnet when I got back... turned the engine off and heard a death rattle (or was it my imagination!). Could start again, still got the engine light... waiting for car to cool before I check oil... am low on gas but got 30+ miles left... can't be that... RAC call or take to garage... don't want to drive it really... Advice?
  21. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/08/29 ... one_trade/ A New Jersey teenager has cut a deal to trade a hacked iPhone for a new set of wheels and three further iPhones, Yahoo! reports. Seventeen-year-old George Hotz, of Glen Rock, made the announcement on his blog, having successfully unlocked the Jesus phone. Duly released from the shackles of AT&T, the device was then swiftly offered for sale. Hotz said: "Terry Daidone, the founder of Certicell contacted me this morning, and offered to make a trade for the iPhone. I traded it for a sweet Nissan 350Z and 3 8GB iPhones." He described the trade as "a great end to a great summer", and he can only hope AT&T's attack lawyers don't provoke a sudden autumn chill. Daidone, who's the co-founder of Louisville, Kentucky-based CertiCell, has apparently also offered the young man a paid consulting job, but stresses the company doesn't have "any plans on the table right now to commercialize Mr. Hotz' discovery". ®
