  1. I'm up for this. Not having done one before, is it a day or a weekend? With significant others too?? Am thinking of a break soon, and Top Gear this month has some great drives listed.
  2. Now that I have the bonnet dampers on the car the bonnet is quite high - great for showing off the engine bay (not that it's anywhere near done yet...) Question is, has anyone got any experience of mirror type material on the flat parts on the underside of the bonnet? What do you think of it? What to use? Any effects on the engine itself (heat etc?)? I found this stuff, and apart from weight and cutting it to shape would it be suitable?? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mirror-polished-s ... dZViewItem
  3. Over there the Grannies are still in their early thirties though!!
  4. Looks like a great trip! Is it me or is that one HUGE supercharger on that S2000???
  5. For a price.... You don't need a phone for tickets, just more money than you know what to do with.
  6. In answer to your other question about a colour others would do a car, mine would be Olive Green metallic with a harsh flip to pearlescent black. Not a Zed though. If you've got someone who can do the work for free, then I think you have to go for something completely unique, eg a House of Kolor build up or some other manufacturers colour you like. A white one can be bought, so unless you did something different with it (airbrushing, large flake metallic etc) I don't see what you'd get from it. I think you should do it. Candy Apple Red has a bronze base coat, layers of deep, deep red built up and the metallic flake is an orangey gold. Looks stunning
  7. I certainly do - should arrange a local meet. Stevie and captint are certainly nearby, as is JohnK.
  8. http://www.houseofkolor.co.uk/ Candy Apple Red is amazing. They build the paint up with different colour base coats, layers of paint and lacquers.
  9. Yes. Try House of Kolor.....
  10. Only from my point of view. As per Chris' post, there may be some adjustment.
  11. I would say the rears being about 50% of the front level is about right for a good listening set-up. What headunit / speakers are you using?
  12. It's up to you mate. I went for limo black on the rear as the car was so low and I got fed up with being blinded by people's lights! I would say anything from 65% - limo would be a rear window level. However, it depends if you just want a light smoke, so 15-35% could be where you want it. All up to you! The only company I know and would recommend is just off the M40 / M25 junction. A bit of a trek for the tints I'd guess.
  13. Kev, I'm sure you've read up, but you can't have the front door windows done (except a minimal manufacturer tint), and as for the cost it depends on how big the 4x4 is and how tricky it is to fit. I had limo black on my rear window, 75% tint on rear windows, and 35% (maximum for front before the law) on the front windows. I didn't pay much more than a couple of hundred, but that's down to having family in the trade. I would say it shouldn't be much more than £300? Pic for reference
  14. So you were just going to come over and use us....... But then you realised you cared!!
  15. Yeah you're right, my comment was slightly tongue in cheek as I've had dozens of HGs done on Rovers but I had heard it was rare on the Elise. The Toyota lump would be much preferable but it's gotta be a Turbo VX for me, in Yellow... I've wanted one ever since I read the road test, you know how it is Of course, go for it mate!
  16. Any ideas for links / manufacturers?

Perfect, and a cheap pair of RE040's waiting for you here!

i take it by your sig that you have 18" rays as well? and the tyres are 18" profile? Sorry mate. Yes, they are indeed. OEM spec and size. I can do some pictures later for you if you want?
  19. I think I have shortish legs and long body, so the legroom is ok for me. It's the VX220 Turbo I'm looking at, so much quicker than the Elise. I possibly would have an Elise if it wasn't for the stupid K series engine popping its gasket every few miles Need to be aware of the old wives tales my friend...... The head gasket issue was common when you had 1 ton plus to haul around, you'll find very very few Elise's with popping head gaskets mate. And it also depends which Elise you are referring to..... And the later ones have Toyota VVTi lumps in them. Good fun!

As Sarnie said, don't mix it. I have two RE040's in my gagrage from when I changed to the Toyo's, probably have similar mileage on to yours. Am open to offers.
  21. I think you need to be careful. Just because an insurance company are aware of something, it doesn't make it legal..... If your car is illegal eg all brake lights out, and you tell them, they may well say fine. It can have an MOT etc. but if it is found to have been illegal then I'm sure there will be a clause in your terms that say the insurance is still void if there is anything illegal about the car.
  22. I have a mate who is doing up his brothers Pulsar and all I can say is they are fast as f00k! We went out in it when it had a bent cam and I think it would compeletly blow away the Zed. This Pulsar was kicking out around 350BHP apparently when running properly and in the wet there definately would be no contest due to 4WD. Definatley. His is running around 314bhp but has got a few oil problems. He was still expecting to destroy me though, he was quited gutted he couldnt A mate of mine had a Pulsar running at about 320bhp with nothing in it except 2 seats. He regularly found a Lambo Murci driver in Windsor and used to blow him away. Was fun and as **** at the same time.
  23. I can't stand being in the MX5 for longer than about 30mins as I find the room given to driver and passenger re: legroom too small. The battery is in the passenger footwell and I have wanted to kick through it so many times!! I'm 6'1" so just wondered. I find the Elise has so much more room in it. Yes, it is a pain to get in and out, but once in very comfortable. Surprised you think a VX220 will be any different mate as the Elise is the same, but for badge snobs......
  24. Again, thanks for the kind comments mate Although I'm very impressed with the Megs stuff, as I've said, I'm getting ready to move up to "better" stuff. Think H5 and your good self have now sold me on this P21 stuff, any recommendations on where to get it? Here you go guys - http://www.cleanandshiny.co.uk/index.ph ... ductId=137 Good price for some great product. To continue the mutual appreciation society, I agree with Ming about finishing. As a test, if you take a new cloth and throw it gently across the bonnet, the thing zips across and falls on the floor with P21S (and other waxes) whereas after a polish it's not quite the same. I have now tested Megs Gold Class (not good IMO), Megs stage 3 (OK, not bad) and P21S. Have seen others use other waxes but on my car I have yet to see anything to make me switch.
