  1. lol! looks like a toy car with those enormous wheels to me! Each to their own!
  2. I'm guessing 75 was when he was born in Henley. In 94 he went to Southampton uni, then returned to Henley for a few years before moving to Reading.
  3. I think you did the morally correct thing to do... very sensible, but probably something learnt with age too!
  4. I'm surprised there hasn't been any crude replies yet!
  5. Hampshire, apprently. I don't approve of their tactics either, but then I never use my mobile phone in the car, so wouldn't be targetted I guess. It does seem a rather extreme way to get people to stop, but maybe someone has lost someone to a driver on the phone and they've taken it personally? Who knows... I do get the feeling this is where the UK is heading though. More and more people don't vote as they feel the same, bad decisions will be made no matter who is in power anyway. Even when people do get out and show that they really oppose something (protest against Iraq war for instance), the goverment ignores them. Today I heard that 4 million signitures have been sent to the priminister as a plee to keep post offices open... what are the chances that those will be ignored too? I'm guessing the reason speed cameras are being destroyed is for a similar reason too (http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4627). I have a feeling people are fed up with the government doing nothing about importand things and being obsessive about the pointless things. As they say, "what is the world coming to?"
  6. I'm guessing that this sort of technology will bring about true 3D desktops which are actually useful. With just one input, I don't think there is much of an advantage, but with numerous inputs from touch screens like that... well, it just looked so natural. Amazing really...
  7. wow, that's VERY cool! I bet in a few years, we'll wonder how we ever coped with ONE input from a mouse. It all looked extremely useable too... much better than scroll bars and a single point. VERY impressive!
  8. I just read an article in AutoExpress saying that cars are being targetted, vandelised, tires slashed etc and notes being left saying, "NOTICE: You've been seen talking on your mobile phone while driving". Interesting...
  9. Although I agree, it's totally not policeable, it would probably make many people think twice about it. Before driving while holding a phone was banned, people saw there was no wrong in it, where now it's frowned upon. I think making them illegal would certainly make a few more think twice about it, even if it would be impossible to police.
  10. Somehow, this web site made me happy! lol! http://www.speedcam.co.uk/gatso2.htm This site is interesting too: http://www.speedcameras.org/
  11. I just let mine ring off. If it's really important and they keep trying, I pull over and see who it was. I don't know about the rest of you, but if someone is asking me technical questions, it means I'm concentrating less on the road. I guess simple calls aren't the same, but they can usually wait anyway. I know at least one person who has had an accident from being on the phone and it wasn't cos he only had one arm on the wheel... he shunted someone cos he wasn't paying attention to the traffic speed. I don't know why they didn't ban the lot the first time as it seemed a bit pointless with just the hands free thing.
  12. Isn't that just in the republic, Dash? Thx for warning though!
  13. I'm probably moving to Northern Ireland (where the girl friend is from) and some days I just can't wait. As much as I like England, the roads are just always busy and full of fines waiting to happen. It's not like I'm always flooring it everywhere, I just don't like dawdling 10mph below the limit on an open road (although in some 30 zones I do, like housing estates, near schools etc). I know people always go on about roads in Wales and Scotland being great, but my drive around the south and the north of Ireland recently was thoroughly enjoyable. Most roads seem pretty empty, have lots of bends and hills and best of all, very few speed cameras (I think there is one fixed on heading north towards Belfast and that's it!) and reasonable speed limits (ie. not nanny state limits). I'm guessing this is something to do with the police having other things to worry about over the recent years, but if I could live near those roads every day, I would just be a happier man as I love my driving. Hopefully, one day they'll stop making roads smaller (with hazard lines, removing lanes etc), stop putting stupid limits everywhere, which just causes more congestion and more tailgating (which means more cars with more angry drivers) and start actually fixing the problem. I just think the current policy isn't working and ruining the enjoyment of driving and lengthening our journey times. I googled a site recently that had an article about speed and the dangers of it. Apparently: (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5387568.stm) Notice how exceeding the speed limit is not the major cause? How about we spend time teaching people to slow down in bad conditions, LOOK before they pull out and don't make any stupid maneouvers intead? Speed cameras can't stop them and they make up the majority of the fatal accidents. It's about time this whole farce of using speed cameras everywhere was stopped and I wish there was more I could do to help this!
  14. I had a nice drive out form Southampton to Bath on Saturday and decided to go via Salisbury to get some more interesting roads. Of course, there was the usual quantity of traffic, all driving well under the speed limit getting in the way, but I was patient and waiting for chances to overtake. After following a string of 3 cars all doing between 50 and 55 on a national speed limit road for a few miles, the road opened up to have a crawler lane on the inside and a passing lane, so I booted it to get around the slower moving cars as quickly and safely as possible (the other side could overtake in the lane also). Just as I was passing the 3rd car on the crawler lane, the slight incline changed to a level straight and guess what was waiting for us on the left - a bloody mobile speed camera! So, after miles of following slow moving traffic and finally getting a chance to get around it swiftly and safely, I had to jam the brakes on to bleed off some speed and hope that he hadn't got his camera pointing at me. I was probably doing over 70, just about to complete the overtaking manoeuvre when he popped into view. Is there *really* no better place to put those bloody cameras than after an uphill with a crawler lane opening out into a straight?! I think it's completely bonkers to put one there for any other reason than to make money off people doing exactly what I was doing - passing slow moving traffic swiftly and then returning to the 60 limit (or there abouts). I've never been caught by a camera before, but now there are so many of the bloody things that I've resigned myself to the fact that it's just a matter of time before I will get one. If I get one for this BS situation, I'll be really pi**ed off though!
  15. If it costs more than double their current flagship car's base price, I definitely think they'd have trouble shifting them! Still, if the price is right (50k or imo), then I'm sure it'll only serve to strengthen the brand and should be a great drive to boot!
  16. lol! That was the first thing I noticed about the pics... scary!
  17. I used to get this too occasionally. Since I've had my oil changed though (for some nicer stuff too tbh), it's not done it since.
  18. Ban 'im! I think it'd be nice to have a way to send some money via paypal to help support the site. It's great that you admins pay for the up keep already, but sometimes people like to give something to help!
  19. It all seems pretty daft to me and although I've not read the other thread (even if it wasn't deleted ), I believe bans should be a last resort if someone gets really nasty. Just banning someone for sounding an opinion seems pretty silly, especially if they've *paid* to post such opinions. I found this site days after the other site started charging and while at first I went to both sites, I only go here these days mostly. I decided I'd never get my money's worth as I couldn't really see what I was paying for. I know forums cost money to run, but a small fee (ie. a quid or so if that?) per member would probably cover any bandwidth costs. I don't know who pays for that over here, but thanks and there should be a way to contribute for those who wish to as well maybe? Anyway, glad to see some new faces (and some familiar ones! ) over here either way!
