  1. Aaaaand sanded again. Much smoother now. No ridges and plenty of feathering. Not sure if it needs a bit more taken off or whether the extra is helping to maintain the curve of the bumper. Will get another sand before priming anyway, so can deal with it then. Got a headache now though, not sure if it's from heat exhaustion in this 30°C weather or inhaling enough fibreglass dust to kill a horse, but it's nothing an ice cold beer can't fix either way. ;)

  2. Really good sand and another layer of filler. Also found a stone chip, so thought I'd tackle that while I'm at it. Hopefully I won't get carried away and start trying to sort all the little stone chips / scratches and end up repainting the entire car...

  3. Sort off, had to print off all our savings details. Not entirely sure if it was in their legal right to demand all that info, but we just wanted the mortgage approved ASAP so handed everything over. We could have faked the whole lot, no idea just how they verify all the documents.

Guessing they called your bank and asked them to verify.

Would be too easy to just Photoshop yourself a millionaire

Right ballache for those of us with our moneys split between multiple accounts though.

  4. the visible bit is flat but also the transition to the side step is slightly visible but ties up nicely

if you have a look at the second screw in your video above, you can actually see the screw after he attached the step,I still have the Tarmac ones and very pleased with them although I do like custom made stuff if it is done right

I see what you mean. Looks like that 2nd screw isn't obvious unless you are at eye level with the side steps though, otherwise you'll never see it. He also used self tappers rather than bolting up behind the skirt or using Sikaflex, which would be invisible.

I think the Tarmac ones are just too blocky and looks more like a lip than a splitter. It's the same thing that puts me off most front lips for the Z. They stick up and overlap the bumper and just look weird and stuck on (imo).

  5. And sanded. Needs another layer to sort out a few little niggles still. Doesn't need to be perfect since I'm not ready for the next stage yet and will be giving it another once over before I paint, but i was just sick of having holes in my bumper.

  6. Been a while, but finally doing stuff again. Unfortunately it's not louvres, but they are still in the pipeline and just need priming / painting.

Spare tranny mount and polyurethane is all ready for a DIY tranny mount, just need to drill the mount out and rig something up to keep everything in place while the PU sets.

    As for stuff done today....

  7. Made my own, pretty easy to follow the lines of the car to template yourself, good double sided tape, right colour spray and haypresto

    Done......

So you vinyl wrapped then just spray painted the vinyl in colour matched paint?

  8. honestly.... for what is worth ,time is money and it is just easier to buy the parts rather then manufacture them as that will be quite a bit of time consuming plus trial and error etc...

if I would be on a tight budget I will just find extra work and pay for them :headhurt:

Problem is that they don't exist....

I'm essentially on holiday for the next 4 months, so I have all the time in the world. I'd rather "waste" my time making things and doing what I enjoy than find some crappy temp job.

This guy installed flat ones with no issues though:

  9. I think the illustrious fashion police are interfering unduly here, it's not like he wants to put a grand's worth of big gay wing (which would be a mistake worth issuing a warning about), he wants to put a couple of stickers on the lights, it'll cost 15 quid and peel off in 10 seconds if it doesn't look right, I don't think opinions were really warranted under these circumstances.

Do it mate, for reasons stated, it's nothing to reverse if you don't like it...but do the vinyl thing, it's the only way to make them look 'right', as you noticed the FRP/PU ones tend to be noticeably raised above the bonnet line. I'm going to be doing it soon, my car isn't particularly low, but it is quite sporty looking, by the time I do it, it will have a nismo v2 front, chargespeed rear, black facelift lights are already in, deep dish wheels, etc, etc. I particularly feel that the eyebrows go well with long nose front bumpers like the nismo v2 and v3 and a couple of others.

    Any templates for the vinyl?
