  1. sly at kaizer is near rochester, often recommended on these forums so i've picked him as my main garage. so far he's been very helpful and very reasonable on the price too. he's closer to you than he is to me!

he's a nissan master mechanic, and has been in the top 30 master mechanics across the UK twice now over the years. mostly tends to GTRs, 370s and 350s.

i'd just be worried about driving your car with those sounds. does anyone know if it's likely to be doing more damage if driven in this state?

  2. not a massive difference no. the biggest difference is where she red lines. the first DE goes to 6.5K, the rev up 7K and the HR 7.5K. the bhp goes from 287 DE, just over 300 rev up and 308 HR, which you'd probably not be able to tell the difference between on a test drive. the DE has the 2 lines in the bonnet and a single air intake, the HR has the bulge and twin intakes, so you might prefer one for styling and if you're into modding then be aware the HR will cost more to tweak.

the HR starts in 2007 (so some will still be rev up), they are younger and also fetch a higher price. take a look on autotrader over the whole country to get a feel for price difference. i know the rev up is 2006, but i'm not sure how to tell the difference in the flesh, probably go by the internal cabin trim. DE starts out one way, gets a face lift with the rev up and then final tweaks for the HR.

might be worth hunting about for examples of each at local dealerships and seeing which one you prefer.

  3. Sounds like a broken button, maybe a previous owner was a bit over enthusiastic with it

i've worn buttons out on my mouse before, but that took years of clicking! seeing as this is a once per drive kinda thang i can only imagine it getting worn out by a kid sat in dads car with no keys playing with all the buttons :)

sounds like something else to add to the list, but right at the bottom cos it's hardly important.

    It's a sign! It's saving your life

true, especially in the wet, love how it helped me do a hill start on a crazy incline and wet cobbles :)

but it's also getting on my tits in the dry, i'm expecting my car to behave one way then it goes and does the opposite! i'm not talking about trying to powerslide, just the odd twitch here and there. it's so aggressive on the power cut that it's throwing me about more than a little wheel slippage would.

  4. Yup, I press the button and the lights both stay off (they are supposed to both come on). Yet when I turn the key both lights do their test on and off so it's not a blown bulb. Then sure enough if I try to get the back wheels to spin a bit the TC kicks in and does it's thang.

  5. I can't seem to turn ESP off, I've double checked that I'm using the right button, that both lights go on and off when starting the car and re-read the manual for any other clues and I just can't disable it.

Does that sound like the switch is just broken? I'd have thought these switches would have a silly high duty cycle and not something you could wear out in any practical way.

  6. If there is enough interest I'd be keen to arrange something - will give me a chance to learn a bit more from the community and get some inspiration!

Well, it seems you have a bit of interest for Beaconsfield services, so seeing as you were foolish enough to step forwards and volunteer to organise something, snap to it :p

Never been to a meet before so no idea what's needed.

  7. Newbie alert!! Quality geo??

i believe geo = wheel alignment. when i first read that in context it made me think of geometry.

someone please correct me if i'm wrong!

    Bingo :)

It's like fancy wheel alignment, except instead of just getting the wheels in the green zones as per OEM, you get a car that's tailored to the way you want it to drive. You can turn a car from an understeering mess to a perfect neutral balance to an oversterring hooligan, just by fiddling with the stock camber and toe adjustments. That's how you really extract the maximum from the car, rather than worrying about the nth degree of 1-2 bhp.

ooooh, so there is more to it then just a regular alignment. still tons for me to learn :)

interesting too as i generally prefer oversteer to understeer. something about the front wheels sliding towards the edge makes me nervous but the arse end trying to overtake the front end doesn't phase me. i'm at least a year away from new, wider wheels which i understand can be used to re-balance over vs under steer (ie reducing the difference between front and rear), so being able to tune that with a geo might be quite handy. i'm due an alignment next pay cheque but i'm thinking there is little point upgrading that to a geo all the time i have crappy rubber on. more something for when i've got used to a neutral setup when the MPSSs are on.

  8. I've been told the extra cost of the invidia goes towards a higher quality grade of stainless steel, and that's not just on the pipes but all the fittings too. Sounds good to me so I'm busy saving up for my own set as I'm sick of exhausts rusting away on me!
