it's the 313 HR engine and also the 370Zs that get this issue. the DE engines don't appear to have the same problem.What sort of miles are people having these issues at ?
Nissan haven't issued anything official about it, but the part in question is now reinforced, so that kinda hints at a problem they have found and the fix being a new, stronger gasket.
I don't think people know enough about it to know if there is any reason why some will fail at a certain mileage while others keep going just fine (101K on mine and no sign yet of the fault). At the moment I get the impression people expect every HR to fail at some point and they are only just getting to the mileage where it starts to fail.
I've wanted a proper sports car all my life and have saved up long and hard for this, so I plan to keep saving and get it replaced as a precautionary measure. Given that the 350's have an oil pressure gauge on the dash I guess you could just keep an eye on that then get it seen to as soon as the pressure starts to drop. It's the 370Z owners I feel sorry for as they have oil temp instead so there is no visible sign that the gasket has cracked. No oil leak, no low oil level, but oil starvation when the problem has got really bad and we all know what that does to an engine.

Hold your breath for a year then see if some of the specialists on here will do you a better quote for next year. Not sure what age they start at but I do know there is little they can do until you have an accident free year of driving a car with similar power under your belt.
They like the forum members as it gives the impression we care a bit more about our cars, so they can use that to lever cheaper prices for us.

40 mph in first, 70 in second, technically you don't need to know where 3rd gets you and the manual just gives up after that! loving the HR engine sooo much right now and i'm sure you will too once that gasket isn't letting the side down

I do a lot of motorway driving, so having the zed is a lot like having your cake and eating it. I get a very reasonable mpg from her along with affordable insurance to keep my bank account happy, and the biggest grin when I put my foot down

After reading about the oil gallery gasket fault I'm planning to put it on the list of bits to save up for this year to get her running her best. Currently my oil pressures are verging on running high, but after having a chat with sly the gasket problem could be present even if the pressures are fine. He said there is a chance the gasket has cracked further down the line from where the sensor is, but at that point the most important parts will be getting plenty of oil so until you see a pressure drop it's unlikely to do any damage. This gives me a bit of time to save up but I'll be keeping an eye on those numbers in case I need to stretch to fit it in earlier.

That Nismo kit is the reason I'm eating cold baked beans for the rest of the month. Baked beans because the zed was close enough to my savings for me to throw all I had at it, cold because my microwave has broken and I can't afford a new one till next pay day!
No idea how she will drive compared to the ST, but my new zed is soo sexeh and satisfying to drive

do they fit any bulbs for £7? cos that's good value on some cars where you have to take the whole front to bits to change a headlight

Common problem with the fuel gauge not reading correctly but there is a fix for that should you find a car with that problem.
Mine doesn't register the top 1/4 of the tank. Only had it since Sat so that's not top of the list of things to get sorted but I've bookmarked the guide for when that one gets it's turn. Thanks
Mine used to do it too.
In the end I never really got it sorted, ...seemed to be better someday's than other days so I just learnt to always keep a good eye on the miles I'd covered.
I'm so used to having a max range of 250 miles that I really don't care what the new max range is yet, I did Wales to Kent with plenty of juice left
Would you believe me if I said my old car was a 1.8 V6 that did 30 MPG on the open road and on my first trip in the zed I managed to max the ave MPG readout at 33.1? The change in performance is astronomical, but the change in running costs will be minimal. Never knew eating your own cake tasted this good

it's hard to be objective about which car to go for when your heart is made up
the 350z won my interest with it's stats (s2000 was on the list too) but won my heart with the less numerical choices. things like the ample power across the whole rev range appeal to me far more than peak punch in a tight power band
some more things to be aware of
the OEM clutch will wear out, so either look for one that's just had that replaced, or you could use it as an excuse to fit an upgrade if you like modding
the 313 HR engines seem to have an issue with the oil gallery gasket. if oil pressure is low but oil level is fine then it will need the new upgraded gaskets. personally i plan to get that done before the oil pressure starts to drop. costs a bit though if you're paying for someone to fit it
the boot might either fail to pop open on its own, or struggle to stay up. plenty of advice on how to fix that though
the electric window motors were weak, i believe most of these will have been sorted out by now though.
i'm sure there is more, this forum is a gold mine of useful information. at the core though is a very solid car

also when you get a bit of spare time here and there browse about the technical forums to get a feel for the sort of problems the cars might face. i find it helps to have an idea of what could go wrong and how easy it is to fix. not that the 350 is prone to failure, she's a very solid car but nothing is perfect. the nice thing about buying now is many of the old teething problems will have been fixed

Are these are boxes the same as the single one on the DE
The HR has a box each side which probably makes it twice as expensive to mod

Hi All,
I'm looking to take my new zed back to stock. It's got metal tubes and pop chargers on at the moment and I'd like to put the OEM airboxes and pipes back on. Filters would be handy too but those are easy enough to source.

D'oh! This is what you get for trying to do things from memory after overloading your brain with pics of zeds. I don't have metal pipes, just the pop chargers on OEM pipes. Pics will be below
