  1. Here unfortunately is the opinion of one of the countries top welding instructors,

with vast experience in the nuclear and automotive fields, who I sent the link too:

    Hi Jim,

    these exhausts are British made.

What do you think, looks like someone got this weld area a bit hot judging by the HAZ?

    ...

THAT MUST BE THE WORST TIG WELD EVER, The monkey must have been having a bad day, lost his Nuts. JC.

  2. Put it on inside of the windscreen - that way wipers won't ever touch it ;)

That will not work as the inside of the screen is still covered by the regs:

    Additional Opaque Films

Additional opaque films are subject to reason for rejection 1 whether fitted on the inside or outside of the windscreen.

However if it is tinted film rather than opaque:

Additional mirrors and tinting films are not subject to Reason for Rejection 1.

    LIMO Black anyone ;)

  3. Very true.

If you don't fill in the initial registration form correctly, you will likely end up paying more.

Paul Bowden at Japautoagent advised me on what to put in each box on the form.

Looking at my V55, the DVLA still made a mistake and my zed is listed as "Fairlady Turbo".

I have looked everywhere under the bonnet and still can't find the Turbo! :)

  4. Mine is an 04 JDM and registered in the UK in 2015 - £230 for 12 months - Tax class PLG.

It is the date first registered in Japan that counts, and if it is less than 10 years old you will have to pay the higher rate.

  5. Thanks again Zedd,

with the rear spring perch at max height the MeisterR springs measure 30.5cm,

which is 10mm lower than OEM stock height.

This forum is great for information and practical advice.

    Thanks guys! :)

  6. Thanks for that which may help somebody fitting new springs, but the front spring lengths aren't comparable in this case as the MeisterR Zeta-S are true coilovers, preloaded to 200m, with a separate lower perch for ride height adjustment.

It's the rears which still use separate springs as per OEM that I need the length of.

Here was Jerrick's reply in the group buy section:

    Hi Jerrick,

can the shocks be setup for standard ride height?

My daily drive involves country roads, potholes and speed bumps,

so I don't want the car sitting any lower.

The front shouldn't be a problem, the rear should be okay also.

Not something I have come across before, but judging from the 350Z suspension design, it should give plenty of scope for ride height adjustments.

    Jerrick

As Ekona said I may be over thing things, but it would be nice to know.

  7. Thanks for a quick reply, and I do intend to measure the current ride height before fitting.

What I don't want to do is start stripping the car down, fit the shocks and then find that the max height is lower than what it is at the moment :-(

If I know the length upfront, then I can plan accordingly and maybe get some alloy spring spacers made up,

and still have 43mm of adjustment on the spring perch to go lower.

  8. What is the OEM spring length?

I have just bought the Meister Zeta-S coilovers in the group buy, and must say the quality seems very very good:

    http://www.350z-uk.c...-buy-interests/

I want to start off at stock ride height and adjust from there.

My Zed is a daily driver and I want real road performance, with the ability to get over speed bumps without slowing to a snails pace!

In motorcycle racing terms I'd be looking at a setup for the Isle of Man TT races or Irish Road races,

able to cope with bumps and jumps, rather than smooth circuits such as Donnington, Brand's Hatch etc.

I have searched the forums and been unable to find a figure, but maybe someone has an OEM set in their garage that they could measure? ;)

  9. My FairladyZ is the base model, but still had rear speakers fitted, so my guess is they are fitted to most models.

Like yours, mine were not working.

After stripping out the plastics to get to them I found both had blown. :-(

I replaced the speakers and had sound again. :-)

    I hope this helps...

  10. Anyone know what size and thread the 4 stock mounting bolts are that hold in the Bose woofer?

I'm fitting a subwoofer in my JDM Z, which as a base model does not have a woofer as standard,

but does have the woofer mounting plate under a blank cubby cover.
