  1. Ahh ok good to know that, I just asked her, but she said she hadn't use the washers that morning. Reading online mentions under bonnet white smoke could be brake fluid or other hydraulic fluids ?

  2. It could be liquid on the engine just evaporating, I had it on my campervan the other week and it freaked me and a mate out. When we stopped and looked everything was ok under the bonnet.

Ahh ok fair enough....it's just odd because we have never seen it before, I'll tell her to keep an eye on it to see if it gets worse :)

  3. Hi Guys just an update to this as i have resolved it now.

I went to check the belts but they were already tight, any more and they would probably snap.

So my mechanic inspected for free and said the same thing, tension is correct not loose at all, slight shine on the alternator pulley but nothing to be concerned about.

His conclusion is that the belts could be a bad batch and recommends changing the belts first. Major props to Mitz at Cougar store for getting new belts to me for free under warranty, had them changed and the squeal is now gone, even on cold start up's :) Happy days! Just hope it stays this way now.

  4. Ive got exactly the same issue at the moment, occasionally squealing a little on start up but then goes away. As im selling the Z soon im thinking this is probably something I should get sorted as not to put potential buyers off.

What would I search to buy both belts?

Cougar store sell the belts pack £28 I think

  5. Just change the belts, I left mine and ended up stuck at side of the road with a flat battery after the alternator belt went "see ya".

After a weekend trackday/party where I couldnt wait to get home.

    On a Sunday.

    In the rain. :surrender:

Ouch that doesn't sound pleasant! Will be changing them soon :)

  6. There are 2 types, there is a little fabric horizontal one that mounts to the boot lid or the bigger one that fits vertically under the rear strut brace.

If your after the former then contact someone like ZMANALEX, if your after the alter contact I4N as he custom builds them. See here: http://www.350z-uk.c...r-boot-divider/

Just discovered Ian's thread too...looks perfect and exactly what i'm after ill be in touch with him. Thank You!

  7. Looking for a guide on striping the boot trim panels (including central bar, side panels, and boot lid panel) as I plan on sound deadening it all soon.

Found a couple useful resources so far:

    Removing Interior trim pieces: http://imgur.com/a/PdaLM

    Boot trim with pics: http://www.350z-uk.c...ix-boot-pop-up/

    Boot Trim tips: http://my350z.com/fo...ng-purpose.html

Any more guide links or advice?

    Many Thanks

    Darmo

  8. Just bought myself 45 sheets of Silent Coat (for boot and doors), along with the rubber isolator (to go on top of the deadening sheets in the door) and memory foam sheets (to go inside tweeter housing and inner side of of plastic door trim).

Feel pretty confident with the doors, however never taken the boot apart before so that will be all new to me.

is there a guide somewhere for stripping the 350z boot apart?

  9. So the Mechanic this morning said that he can't tension the belts up any more because they are already tight, any more could result in a snap, he demonstrated to me and I agree. He checked the pulleys and they all seem fine, some slight shine on the alternator pulley which could be a sign of it slipping on this pulley but nothing to be overly concerned of.

His recommendation was to change the belts first.

  10. Darmo, ive just had this issue myself! I had new belts fit and a new idler pulley. The squealing stopped for a bit but came back again after a month or so upon starting the car. The battery light had started to flicker upon startup too. The car then just cut out on me coming home from 5 a side and wouldn't start again. I then realised my alternator wasn't charing so I have replaced the alternator and its all good now.

Hey Scott, ahh sorry to hear you had to go through that glad it's all sorted now :) My belt tensioning is tmr morning now and I'm hopeful that will be the final fix because the last few starts the squeal has not been as bad (like 3 seconds), makes me think it could be weather / temp related. Anyway, just in case it turns out to be Alternator for me also I might be back in touch to see where you bought yours from lol.

  11. Here you go :

    http://www.350z-uk.c...ux-drive-belts/

Just start at step 4. I think one of the bolts is left threaded - can't remember which one though (helpful I know).

First time I did this I stripped the threads of the tensioner lock doing it up so be careful.

If your searching for something on the forum use just google rather than this sites in built search engine.

Tie some string onto the end of your socket wrench and drape it over the front of the car. Your bound to drop it at some point and this makes finding it again a lot easier!

Ah thats the one Thanks for providing, ill try and give this a go.

  12. The drive belt needs re tensioning.

Seconding this. Ultimately it sounds like your belts are too loose either because they've stretched or are the wrong size. Retension or fit new ones.

Thanks both, the belts are gates from Cougar store, so i'm sure they are right, perhaps they have just stretched over time, I remember seeing a guide to tensioning the belts that doesn't require taking the car of the ground (if you have skinny arms) but for the life of me can't find it now.

  13. ?

I can hear it in your video and my first impression upon hearing it is Belt Squeal. I'm having loud long squeal at startup and your noise sounds exactly like that but just for a short second.

The fact that it's directly related to a specific RPM range helps narrow the focus of diagnosis, a quick Google search of 'belt squeal 2k rpm' or 'belt squeal above 2k rpm' gives many forum posts you can read, one of them (RX7 forum) points to a particular pulley.

Other than that, and this is just me thinking out loud, could be a whistle that's created from your tyhpoon sucking air in at that RPM range. So then i Goggled 'K&N typhoon squeal'

which led to me to this post which is exactly what you are experiencing: http://www.yourcobalt.com/forums/chevy-cobalt-owners-lounge/11943-k-n-high-pitch-squeal.html

No problem can't be diagnosed with a little googling ;)

  14. For over a month now, I'm getting loud constant squeal from the belt which lasts 6-8 seconds immediately after I start the engine. I notice the belt squeal stops as soon as the volt reading reaches around 14v (which can take 6-8 seconds on a cold start) The Squeal happens on non cold starts too if left for more than 15 mins, although it's a not as bad / long then.

I have replaced the Battery with a brand new Optima Red top. The engine cranks into life instantly now, but the Squeal issue described above is still the same.

So this leads me to think it could be Alternator? or something else (loose belt). The belts were changed with brand new gates belts back in September 2015.

FYI in May 2015 i installed a new car audio system running a total of 900w RMS.

Any insight or advice you can give is much appreciated.

Ill add a video to demonstrate
