  1. I'd say be a touch careful on overtakes. It's the only situation where you tend to boot it and turn at the same time (across white lines or the grit in the middle of the road too). Traction control saves the day in that case.
  2. I agree completeley. You're right there. It's mad that the stuff you can probably write-off is the stuff you could chase down if you made the effort. But the really serious stuff is put into the hands of the cops, CPS etc. who might not be as interested in it. Conversely, you might have a civil case that could be easily proved in your favour by a fingerprint or DNA but you don't have access to that machinery. As for the OP, ideally he'd find some conversation online where the seller asked about knocking engines and how to offload them. Without that, he could take the chance of bringing him into a smalls claim court and hoping he performed badly. Longshot. Technically, I'm confused. Can you actually hide a knocking engine for a short while? Is it the old sawdust thing?
  3. Thats the law of proof - if there is an element of doubt they get away with it. I have had so many things happen to and around me over the years you do look at the law as a joke, I have heard many a senior policeman say you need 10 written sworn statements by priests and bishops to get a conviction nowadays (although even their integrity is often in doubt!). I got assaulted by a guy on the London underground, nothing serious he looked out of it, just shoved me in the chest for no reason, I held my nerve and just got off. Called the police afterwards and they wanted me to make a statement at a police station, I asked what would get done, and really apart from adding a 1 to the statistics nothing. I find law frustrating as it is hardly ever possible to implement it! Anyway I digress! Bit different if it goes down the civil route - the proof doesn't have to be 100%. 51 to 49 is enough in a civil case.
  4. Some people say that garages can be damp and do more harm than good. I never understood that - knock a few air holes low down through the walls, surely? Ideally you'd have a car port for it to dry in if you arrive home in the rain. Then park it up. The real problem is how easy it is to knock a rake, a tin of paint, a bike or something onto the poor jalopy. If you have a big fat garage get it in there - on a bed of those packs of salt you get in new shoes.
  5. You showed me how to unclip the driver aids under the bonnet! - and there were at least two other Zs. Horsham one and there was another I nearly ran into the back of at the hairpin. Looked like he had a rear facing camera but never saw the footage. But - if you can remember much from the weekender you're not trying hard enough ...
  6. Thanks for all the welcomes everyone. I might head along to that Middlesbrough meet - nice to have a run out on a Sunday. Cheers Doc. As for the spins - the car came with new PilotSS, grooved black diamond (I think) discs and Ferrodo pads. So I think I was probably more cocky with the entry speeds then I was in the old 14. Never spun that one. Got a nice wobble in the brakes now so I'll have to investigate that. Discs don't feel like they're flat anymore - lot of pulsing as you come to a stop at lights. Here she is in action anyway, the entertaining bits. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/TzCb6a2f9Vs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  7. Yep, it had a clear function but I got bored waiting for the Postman and did the pedal jig thing to get in the ECU.
  8. I bought one for a tenner delivered (someone here recommended it) It worked - hopefully not going to be using it much so reliability shouldn't matter? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/U480-Universal-OBD2-CAN-BUS-Fault-Code-Reader-Scanner-diagnostic-scan-tool-UK-/321360042220?ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:GB:3160
  9. Hello folk, Just introducing myself (probably best to say hello before diving into one of the debating threads, real sucker for them). Picked up a 350 at the end of August as a stop gap - having had a S14a for many years before. Have had runs round Snetterton, Teeside and Blyton so far. Loving the sound and the drive. Reckon she might be a keeper. Got some good info off here so far (Elec window reset and screwing the clutch down). Not planning any mods really - got a bigger accelerator pedal coming as I keep botching heel-and-toe downshifts. And when some one has shown you how to turn off all the stability stuff and ABS it can flick you backwards pretty quickly Cough..
  10. Science and Belief shouldn't be compared. They are asking completely different questions. Any half-decent scientist is humble enough to not try to answer the BIG questions. People keep referring to a silly 2000 year old book and denigrating it. They then go on to say that life should just be about emapthy, respect for fellow man and not being in fear of heaven and hell. Aaaagh! That was Jesus's whole bloody point - heaven is in You, not in the church, not in the next life. Don't screw others over just because they're a different tribe. Forgive. Don't be dicks etc. We've had 2000 years of churches corrupting the message I'll grant you but you can't knock his philosophy because of that.
  11. I had the problem of the window not dropping and opening itself on Auto-Up. So I did just the reset today. I found it impossible to get into the car with the door card off but still attached by the wires. So I tried it with the door open - just flicked the latch in the door as if it had been shut. The window then wouldn't go up more than a third of the way. Jabbed the interior light nipple on the door and it sent the window up. Strange. Works fine now.
  12. Hero 2 is in Costco for 100 + Vat. Don't know it it's much better than the basic?
