  3. Here's some pics of the progress so far... Engine bay looking a little empty New clutch and Fly to add to the shopping list, i knew it was on its way out New clutch and fly wheel obvious signs of oil burning on all 6 pistons All told the damage was very minimal, The garage have said the bores are ok, along with the rings. It would seem that the bores are glazed up and this might have let the oil past. Hopefully a full overhaul to the engine will fiz the problem. Work to be done: New bearings, sealing kit and new timing chain kit both heads to be fully overhauled including re-seat the valves and resetting the tappets Will keep you all posted
  4. Thought i would update my post since its been a while and for very good reason. During the summer in 2016 i noticed the car was starting to burn oil, i spent ages trying to convince myself it was normal for a car this age to burn oil and so i kind of ignored it. An oil change mid summer confirmed my worst fears 2.5L of oil came out!! (half the normal capacity) I topped it up and things just got worse, the car had developed a miss-fire which i managed to resolve by changing ALL the coil packs (since i couldn't pin down one faulty coil and the miss-fire was only intermittent) but all hope was lost. During August of 2016 i had to SORN the car! it was smoking so bad through the exhaust at that point i had to do something about it. so, around 5 month later and a hard save i managed to book it into a local garage to have the engine rebuilt over Christmas
  5. can you PM regarding price for discs and pads if you'll split buddy

    Just in time

Did mine myself and i'm no mechanic. Just having the confidence to have a go is all that's needed. This really does say something about "Full service history" I stopped paying for services on mine 12 months after i bought it and do most of it myself now on a friends ramp who happens to be a mechanic, not everyone is lucky enough to have this though and crawling under the car is a pain
  7. I wouldn't have been happy with that outcome after paying for a rebuild. I suppose some people don't like to make a fuss. I'll certainly be looking at the oil consumption while the workmanship is still in warranty
  8. Hi Mark, Not 100% best we can figure is, the car was burning oil after about 4K rpm on full throttle. I think i put this down to poor oil maintenance as i had serviced the car a couple of time to find only around 2.5 Ltrs of oil in there. So its obviously been burning it. Looks like i'm having all the usual consumables done. Bearings, Seals, gaskets but also the timing chain while the engine is out. Got a pretty good price from Nissan (i know shock horror) the whole kit was around £800. Should be like a new one when its all done I had all of that done in mine, im convinced im still using the same oil though lol Did you have your bores done and new piston heads and rings ect? I'll find out sure enough if its still using it but the point is i couldn't drive the car without it smoking like a rocket

  10. Hi folks! My car's currently off the road for a rebuild and the garage have informed me (and invited me down to show me) that my lower control arm has moved off the bush. I know i can replace the whole arm complete with bush but they have suggested i "Polybush" them. Is there a trusted supplier for these polybush parts?? The garage have having trouble finding some thanks in advance Matt
  11. Hi everyone, Sorry to dig this thread out of the woodwork but i thought i would let those interested the engine has been dismantled and i am proceeding with the rebuild as soon as we can confirm exactly what is required Took the car to RE Performance in Bury and the lads there have been great so far! So it looks like all 6 cylinders have seen oil and there is some heavy glazing. clearly the oil burning has been present for some time. Ken at RE Performance tells me that the bearings on the engine look brand new and although we're changing them anyway it looks like the timing chain guides are in very good condition. He thinks the engine has been rebuild previously and has had new bearings and timing chain. Will keep you posted Matt

  13. Thanks for the link, just waiting to hear back from the garage to see if this is acceptable to them.
  14. Hi folks, thanks for the reply.. I have decided to go with an OEM from Nissan. I know it's a lot on top of my rebuild but right now i want to the motor to do another 85K at least so i would be happy for the piece of mind. just means some more saving to do Matt
  15. I dont need to change anything.... just wanted to change the timing gear as my mechanic said he would certainly recommend it while he does the rebuild. Parts from Nissan are around 1K
  16. Hi folks, i wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction, I don't want to go to Nissan if i can help it. Are there any good aftermarket kits available out there? Matt
  17. I'll be breaking mine in soon buddy! great experience at RE in Bury so i think i'll be going with them soon as the quote comes back.
  18. I'm going to see him on Sat (i was supposed to be going Sat just gone but was out for my mothers birthday and too much wine was consumed) I sounds like he'll be able to do it and the money seems good too though we only briefly discussed it, hopefully if all goes well with my meeting with him next Sat i'll get the work done with them. cheers for the heads up on that one dude No worries. I'm getting my bottom end fitted there. What's he roughly charging if don't mind me asking? Is it drive in drive out ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk He said 1000 quid. Drive in drive out. But I'm gonna keep an additional 1000 quid aside for unexpected costs. Been quoted 8 to 10k for labour slone in a few places just to fit the bottom end. thats ridiculous! He said i would be looking at 2.5 to 3k so right on the money for me... so long as it doesn't start going north of 3.5k i'll be going with them,, they;re right down the road from me

  20. Exactly! But if they detail what they will expect to change for the price then you should be fine as long as they say what issues the engine has and what needs to be done to fix/improve it. I agree with what your saying the company i work for is the same, we strip down blowers and repair them... however, i can give the customer a budget price and i can let them know what i intend to change / replace. whats consumable parts and i can also tell them what sort of costs they might expect if it needs, machine work, additional parts ect I have fobbed off loads of companies who wont give me a price, no point in them stripping my engine down and then saying "oh yeh its going to be 8 grand to rebuild" (I wont tell you who quoted me that but i have been quoted 8K for a rebuild) !
  21. I'll call these guys today, I had a bad experience with them a while ago though I may visit them tomorrow morning and have a chat with the guys and see how they are with me
