The z32 was originally designed to have a v8 the vh45de. However it was too powerful for the new 280hp gentlemans agreement. This saw them go with the vg30dett so it could easily detuned by lowering boost. So that ship sailed over 25 years ago. With Renault at the helm your luck to have got the v6 you got, which incidentally was planned to go into the z32 towards the end, but the car ceased production due to its ludicrous price in that economy. So arguably the z33 got the engine it was supposed to, just well after it was supposed to be built. My money is on a z35 which is really an s16.

They have talking about it for a while. There's no need for a hybrid as there are two other hybrid nissans in the pipeline. The way they have been talking recently is that it will be turbo and we may well get a 390/400zX. However displacement will be reduced, and the car will be lighter. Personally I can't see it, the divide between z line and r line have got massive, both in terms of budget and performance. So the new z will continue that trend most likely, most predictions are for a 2l turbo or twin turbo model. So really they should leave the z alone, call it the s16 and leave it there if they refuse to donut properly. The reality of seeing the return of a proper turbo zx are VERY slim. The market is there the GTR has proved that, however not being a true skyline anyway(it's not a salon car) leave little room for a luxury coupe version of it. Also who would pay the £70k for the latest z when the previous two have been no where near these kind of prices, the gtr is the flagship and they are making a new one. Short version, be prepared to be disappointed. Were about to see the z car take another nose dive.

I think your looking at it from the wrong angle, you just BEAT yes that's right you won, against a 30k brand new hot hatch. You achieved that with an overweight 10 year old Nissan. If it's really that upsetting think how upset you would be if a lined up next to a shitty 20+ year old Sierra, and shortly after you had had your arse handed to you noticed it had cosworth on the back of it. There will always be something faster, there will always be something that handles better. Just be thankful you didn't pay £30-50k to still have that problem.

Don't worry like all vauxhalls it will start to fall apart and become very quickly old looking within 5 years. Zeds have never been traffic light superstars anyways.

I spent an age writing up something good which was deleted that explained my thinking completely. However It deleted itself! Now I cba to re type my reasons so you get the end product. The z33 is today's s13. It's no 911 or even boxster, its legs ahead an mx5 and a completely different car to an s2000. it's a weird subgroup left over from before the days of hot hatches. An echo back to the days of sports coupes. It was billed to revive the 240 linage to be a entry level sports car. It's not truly a zed as it's not a flagship or a skyline equal. It's more in keeping with the Silvia models. That's a sign of the times really. The z33 sits in a weird subgroup with the rx8 of cars made to be a bit retro, to echo an earlier model and provide something that doesn't have a set place anymore. Give it 10 years when the kids have killed so many 200s they become rare the z33 will be the weapon of choice. And it will see a surge in popularity followed by legendary status. Being odd isnt bad.

I would guess japan is a smaller market than the US. I know some guys have brought from Japan, however the language is illegible which keeps the majority bothering I recon. Not to mention you can't just bang then an email with "how much to post to the uk mate" apparently a lot ignore English worded emails and requests. What you need is a Japanese friend
-
Because the us market for zcars makes the uk euro market look like a joke. I don't think there's a single thing I can buy cheaper for my z32 in the uk. He'll there's a lot of things I can't even get in the uk.

Z1 have a massive reputation in the z scene mostly z32s which is there speciality. Can't go wrong with them tbh.
-
There you go then. As I said earlier damage by Previous owners, after 10 years bad ownership is starting to take its toll. All the more important for new owners to buy cars with good regular serving. I just hope the trend doesn't become a blot on the z33s reputation.

Fantastic club spirt. Also explains where non was off to on Xmas eve when I saw him in THE traffic jam at ferndown. Who owns the 240? Not seen that before. Do you think these failures are down to improper maintaince long term or a deeper manufacturing fault? The 32 saw the saw issue, the blocks are solid and reliable, in turn they get neglected. (Don't forget prices are falling very quickly attracting more bodge it owners) they continue to run quite happily before the damage done, maybe by the PO, causes it to just say no more thanks. It's a real shame and if the trend does continue it won't be long before misinformed word spreads. On the bright side it is an ideal oppertunity for an engine swap for something bugger or cheaper to pull power from

Yeah having a compact v6 with two very basic jounaral bearing turbos and only 3.5l of oil to do the job takes it's toll on the oil very quickly. Don't forget that oil 25 years ago wasn't as good as it is now.
-
Z32 dipsticks are a pain to read too, I scoured the read area into a few graduations this helped. My oil never stays in there long enough to get dirty which makes it even harder, changed out every 3k as per the fsm for the car.

Yeah the top ones. I do like the 6 spoke ones they über light as well. But I just dunno if I like them on the z32 and the width puts me off. The wheels I really want are rays volk cen or what ever they are called. Rota do a very similar design but rota quality worries me and the sizes I want without tyres there nearly a grand, a lot of money for fake wheels.
-
I think it's back to the drawing board. I couldn't put something on that cost me over a grand that was a compromise. Wheels make and break a car....time to rethink.
-
So are there two different types of 5 spoke? Or just the "nismo" ones I thought there were some 05-07 version 2 rays or something of the like?

Any good alternative Nissan garages in Bristol area?

Powerzed specialise in well you guessed it zeds, both time uk z32 time attack cars are going to be recipients of powerzed built motors so it may be worth speaking to him if it's the same engine. -
That's not so bad my current rears are 265 I was planning to run 285 pzero or 265 r888 so that's fine.

Just some quick questions for you guys. I'm looking to replace my 18s on my z32, probably mid summer or even next, ie not tomorrow. I have a kitchen to pay for first and then an engine build. My current 18s are cheap @*!#, I needed 18s to fit over my BBK so they fitted the bill. The power is going up So I'm thinking replacing with a quality brand such as rays is a wise idea, I've got visions of these Chinese things exploding. Plus robbing them from a 350 keeps it from the oem z parts catalogue I also like this. Now for the questions, The 6 spoke rays, and the 5 spoke later ones are the same width, et and weight? What is the largest tyre that will fit width wise, 245 is a bit narrow really for my aims. How hard to come by and what estimated costings are? I did see some larger 5 spoke ones which are 18r and 19r on the rear simular info requests for these too please.

Is a 300zx a whole lotta car for not alot of money ?
z32bolt replied to Sempiternal's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Sorry didn't explain very well, the 240 was a budget lightweight sports car, the 350z was designed to be a revival, tbh though, they're what 1500kg? The gtr is much heavier, in the 90s the skylines and zeds were a similar weight. Cars are heavy these days, those Porsche panameras weigh more than an average planet. -

Just to revive this a little and add my own experience. I brought my z32 at 23 I was itching to get 300hp on tap. Within a month I blew the engine. Tbh though that was inevitable, the previous owner had spent the cash on a respray but bodged/neglected the rest. The engine oil cooler wasn't even hooked up, the dip stick for the box and engine was in the wrong holes... Not surprising it was a nightmare under there. Since that aside from a blown turbo, probably blown already in all honesty just reviled by the decat. 5 years later, several pairs of rear tyres and thousands of miles hitting the limiter she's good as gold. I never drive this car gently, it only comes out for play time. Yeah it was a painted nail, but it's solid as a rock these days. Some little things that can clear up some of the rumours. 1. Many, many, more than many even realise (so many were clicked on import) vg30dett equipped cars have over 150k miles on their solid engines, there are even ones out there with 300k miles on the same block! This highlights what Alex was saying, they're solid, as a result neglected at which point a 3.0l twin turbo engined car with 3l of oil in its engine breaks. 2. A stock z32 puts out 280-300hp with equally torque, with the right chip that becomes 400hp. With the right bolt ons, a stock vg30dett can run 500hp reliably with even better bolt ons some have achieved 800+ hp and not for quater of a mile before a rebuild. 3. A z32 has almost perfect weight distribution, weighs 1500kg and will still out handle most cars, look in detail at its suspension setup it was seriously advanced. Most you will buy need new bushes though so don't handle right anymore. The z32 is a 90s monster, whilst the z33 is one of its closet relatives they are extremely different cars, different market aims. The z33 was marketed as a new 240z. Lightweight budget sports car. The 240 was always critiqued for being under powered. They had massively different price tags when new, the z32 was £50k at the end of production! In 1990 the z32 was nissans flagship model it was 1990s r35. If you want a z32 do it, you will regret it at some point but when your hitting full boost in a valley echoing and then off wastegates a chattering before pulling up at a junction and a kid taking a photo of a car he's never seen before you will be reminded of what you brought, a legend. V6 tt is win! -
Hooligan! Lovely little treat to break up my working day. Sounded awesome.

You may find this car belongs to Marc from djcc -
Godspeed turbos are junk, start search about them and you will quickly find out how the turbo boys have been killing them quickly. China made guff. My understanding was you needed a bottom end rebuild as the stock rods were like chocolate at 400bhp....?
