  1. Thanks. I read somewhere there was a recall on dodgy cam and crank sensors but the car must be far too old for Nissan to bear the cost now.
  2. Next question..code reader arrived today, easy to use to find why IMI light is on and fault reading says........'CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR ''A''CIRCUIT BANK 1 OR SINGLE SENSOR' Trying to avoid going to a stealership if possible. Any ideas about that before I spend the rest of the day and night Googling how to fix it. Many thanks
  3. Thank you Piranah. Have found this in Amazon. Only budget job one I can find with 5 stars http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cheerlink-Version-Diagnostic-Scanner-CAN-BUS/dp/B00KSZIYA0/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1420189770&sr=8-13&keywords=obd2+scanner
  4. 2003 350z on a 53 plate. UK model Want to get an engine code reader. Can anyone say which connection I need, OBD1 or 2. Thank you.
  5. Ok well that's sorted. Just for the record the side light fuze is located in the (3rd) fuze box tucked behind the battery and you need to remove the surrounding trim to get at it. There are two other fuse boxes, one is in front of the battery (call it number 2) and another is inside the car to the right of the pedals ( number 1). I also managed to get one of the fuses in the wrong slot when checking no. 1 box and had the air bag warning light on all the time. To find out where and what fuses go into the slots I found Google useless as most of the stuff was US based and most of the time didn't even relate to a 350z. I went on ebay uk and looked up spare fuze boxes for UK 350z and cross checked different photos to see where my fuses should be. that's where I found the misplaced one. I didn't need to re set the air bag, which surprised me but I found out, if it starts blinking you re set by turning off the ignition when blinking stops, waiting 4 seconds and repeating the process 3 more times. Then start up and all should be well. YouTube is a useful thing. I hope this might be of use to someone. Thanks for the responses. Neil
  6. WhackyWill. Sorry, look where?
  7. Didn't move the seat. is it on same circuit?
  8. Could some kind soul check my interior fuse box from the photo here. Yesterday side lights went AWOL. Found the mystery 3rd fuse box behind the battery and fixed that. Why do Nissan keep this so secret, no wonder they kept Pearl Harbour such a surprise. So messing about inside the car with the footwell fuse box, out on the road, in the dark, I must have messed the arrangement up because the air bag light stays on now. Any help welcome because I am about to blow a fuse myself. Thanks Neil

  11. Yes I have one pretty much like this with front and back camera. The rear one can be turned to film forward through the cabin instead if you want to film yourself doing everything wrong. It's just to keep a record so it's on with the ignition and stays on, recording over material when full. Simples. Most seem to come from China and the instructions I think are written by the same bloke who did the sign language at Mr Mandella's funeral - so not a great deal of help.
  12. Just how long can Newey keep it up producing one winning car after another? The calm way Vettel drove round Rosburg in the first lap of the last race 2 seconds before I turned the tv off (again) said it all about 2013. The man's a genius but what a yawn of a season. Yes, bring back refuels, introduce random breath tests, Prostate examinations, anything to make it unpredictable
  13. My car is 2005 reg and is more corroded underneath than average, probably because it spent most of its life in the Leeds area where perhaps the winters are tougher and the roads heavily salted. What is the latest thinking on underseals, Waxoyl, Tetroseal, Dinitrol? The car has a quieter life in Surrey now and is garaged. The rust is already present so it's a bit late but I am interested in slowing the rust process down and preventing it getting anywhere else. Doing it myself is no longer an option, it's a filthy job and at 67 I don't bend as much. Comments welcome. Thanks
  14. Thanks for putting me straight on that
  15. Well that's it really… should the cruise control and radio control buttons on the steering wheel be illuminated when lights are on? I am thinking not because mine don't. Thanks for any responses.
  16. Have ordered a nice alloy hazard switch to fit further forward of the existing one, which is in a daft place. I am going to link it to the normal switch so I need to get that out and I was hoping someone on the forum could give me the technique for hooking it out to save me doing any damage. Thanks
  17. Just to say anyone going to Goodwood hooking up with A272..AVOID COWFOLD, massive roadworks. You can route round it. I went yesterday and it took 30 mins to get through and that was a quiet day around 11am. Neil
  18. This is the bit... http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=221244060144&catId=6000&item=221244060144 Have read some other thread where they thought it was an air bag sensor but an alarm is more likely. Anyway i think i shall not mess with it and rig my own switch and lead for an under bonnet lamp. Thanks Neil
  19. Thanks I will check it. I think the door open warning light was not lit with the bonnet up but I will look again. That plunger switch must be there for some reason, just can't see what it is. Thanks Neil
  20. Not the most technical question but here goes... There is a spring loaded switch on the left as you view the engine. Doesn't seem to do anything but it looks like it might be an on/off (door type) switch for a light in the engine bay that doesn't seem to be there (the light, not the engine). Does anyone know what it should do?? Thought I might put a light near the dipstick as I struggle to get that ridiculous bendy thing back in the right place and maybe use the switch already there. Thanks
  21. My 53 plate car, before I bought in in Feb had complete new clutch assembly carried out by Nissan dealer, without flywheel change as far as I can see but including a new slave cylinder and I have the bill for £900 (£457 was labour, £153 was tax and the rest was parts)
  22. Thanks for the input. It's ok now but of a bit of a struggle. Just to conclude the thread for the odd few on the 350z site like me who are daft enough to like getting their hands dirty.... I tried the technique I saw on YouTube where you pump fluid up from the slave nipple with a clean pump oil can and let the bubbles all come up with gravity. I did this twice, clearing all the bubbles but each time the clutch pedal just flopped down so I went to plan B. Halfrawds had a Gunson automatic system (about £17) with a bottle you put next to the fluid reservoir and then use compressed air from a spare tyre to pump the fluid through, genius! However, none of the various caps they supply for the reservoir fit a Nissan so you have to drill a 10mm hole in the cap to take the link tube from the bottle. No problem just blank it off afterwards. One essential thing. Tie the reservoir lid on firmly, as with 20 psi pressure it blows clean off and showers you with hydraulic fluid, not good. Anyway I ran this system through a couple of times, having some difficulty with the bleed screw, too loose and it leaks around its thread, too tight and the flow is restricted. I ended up twiddling that under the car and leaving everything else to look after itself. This all seemed to go ok until I tested the pedal and it flopped to the floor again. I was getting a bit exasperated. The line was still on the bleeder and no air had got back in so I pumped the pedal by hand with the bleed open and air was coming out. Once clear I ran the pressure system through again and this time everything seems fine. I think for the first time since I got the car in Feb it is not leaking oil (from rusty sump) or hydraulic fluid (from rusty flex pipe). Flippin hooray!
  23. Just put on new flexible pipe into the clutch slave cylinder. Read a new way to bleed clutch from underneath with pump oil can, great idea but didn't work for me. So tomorrow morning it's back to the old way filling from top and pumping the pedal. At the moment pedal just flops down so initial pumping I guess needs to be pulling pedal up and down by hand. Anyone got any advice???? Thanks
  24. My old Ma went to Sutton High and got run over by a motorbike in Carshalton, no connection as far as I know. I went to Sutton Art School in Throwley Road in the 60s and lived in Sutton when I got married. A load of cars followed my father (always a mistake) in thick fog during the 50s and he led them all, including himself into Mitcham pond, just down the road. Ah...Sutton, I still like it
