  1. Mine too looks like it's been kept under the North Sea since it was built. In truth I think it looks worse than it is but the sump was shot as described last week ant the silencer went quite early. The water pipe from the oil cooler seems to have been eaten away by the rust mice so that's going to need replacement (£50 +VAT for a bit of mild steel tubing, according to Nissan). I reckon Nissan skimp on the materials and preparation. Maybe some batches are worse than others. Some protective treatment a good idea if you can afford it.
  2. Hardly any really as I have only had it a few weeks. It was seeping and pooling in the undertray. The hole appeared when I got it off and pressed it gently against a screwdriver. Had it got any worse the oil would have emptied in minutes. Second hand ones are out there. New ones are sill money for a bit of pressed rubbish.
  3. What a pity Nissan didn't use stainless steel. Anyway I got a good second hand one from a member who had changed his to a baffled one. Have drilled a few more holes in the plastic under tray in case water was pooling in it.
  4. Since I got the car in Feb it has dripped a bit of oil, a 2003 GT This is why..... I think one of the previous owners lived under the North Sea
  5. Ok. So the 350's av fuel indicator seems pretty good if a tad optimistic but not by as much as I thought. Of course the way it's driven effects the consumption hugely but not the accuracy of the gauge. So if I took out a second mortgage, filled the tank, drove 300 miles, re-filled worked out the mpg and then compared it with the final av on the gauge it should be very similar. By which time I would probably have been sectioned anyway but you get the drift. In future when the memsahib grumbles about my gas gussleing, environmentally unfriendly, 350z I can point to the fuel gauge provided I have been nursing it a bit. Question answered. Thanks to all.
  6. Has anyone checked the accuracy of the average fuel consumption display on the 350z? My experience with computed averages compared to topping up and refilling on other cars suggests they can be optimistic. Thanks
  7. Yes I admired that one. Felt a bit sorry for the Sushi sellers, but who wants raw fish when it's only 2 degrees above freezing.

  9. I like!!! Just don't Google "glowing ring".
  10. My wife says I have never been any good at finding small slots in the dark, whatever that means, so I have just got hold of screen washer jet with a red LED already in it (this is for the car by the way) I plan to fit it to the bottom of the column housing where there is a neat area just the right size, Probably spray it Matt Black so it looks discreet and wire it up to the centre dome light so it behaves like the door lights and at the same time. So far it has cost me about £5 including loads of wire and I still have a spare jet which I might fit under the bonnet near the dip stick because I can never see that either. So it could be a cheap and neat mod provided I don't brake the door pillar trim or burn out the wiring. I think the Honda ring may not fit a z as the barrel looks too big on the z but I may be wrong - I thought this was less hassle More to follow....
  11. No that's to take it to extremes. Your opinion is valid but has to be balanced with others which are equally valid, surely you can see that.

    Falken 453's

Would like to jump on the band wagon. All tyres on recently acquired 350z are shot. The budget jobs on the rear have gone down to 2mm in 11000 miles, so I guess previous owner has been hammering them. Price is a big factor otherwise MPS I read are best but the Falken 453 I can get for £130 for fronts and £140 for rears, fitted and VAT. How does that price seem to the better informed??? Thanks
  14. Evidently this is a common fault with the 350z. Maybe poorly prepared steel for the sump and a collection of water puddling in the undertray.
  15. Thanks for that. Car was serviced regularly by Nissan in Leeds by previous owners and i am surprised it was not picked up as a fault and that the rusty oil feed pipe has gone unnoticed - so much for Nissan in Leeds and their attention to detail.
  16. Ok so having put about 100ml of coolant in the oil filler by mistake and been roasted for it by everyone for doing it and in spite of common sense telling me it wouldn't matter much, thought I would change the oil and trace a slight oil leak at the same time. Long story short...the oil sump pan is quite badly rusted, particularly in one corner. Possibly allowing oil to seep, it doesn't seem to be from the drain plug or from the gasket and the filter seal seems ok. Bit of a pain and quite expensive, think i might have to do the oil and filter change now and replace the pan next time. Anyone had this?? Nissan said it can happen particularly if the car has been kept near the sea! Mine looks like it was kept under the sea Also, the oil pipe from the bottom of the filter is corroded badly. Shall be interested to hear of similar experience. Thanks
  17. Thanks for all the input. It is dripping a bit of oil anyway and having only had the car a couple of weeks I thought I might get the bottom cover off and have a look. While I am there, might as well do the oil change - see how I feel about it in the morning. Thanks again
  18. What a prize plonker. Just half a cup full, but it was a bit dark out there. Anyway I'm sure you blokes will say change the oil but the threads on the correct engine oil are confusing. How about 5 / 30 Castrol Edge to start the ball rolling? It's a 2003 350 with 53k on clock Views welcome Thanks
  19. Thanks for that tip. Have downloaded Nav Free and it seems much simpler.
  20. It's so simple it doesn't really need photos
  21. Don't know if this is of interest to anyone but here goes... Just got 2003 350z, no sat nav fitted but no problem as I use my phone with google maps and a safety camera app, both easy to update. I wanted to run it through my car speakers but didn't know how to do it and I got no response from my message on here. So, I bought a tape cassette with an mp3/phone lead attached. Didn't think it would work but it does (Philips PH-62050 CD/MP3/MD-to-cassette adaptor, Amazon £8.00, bargain) so that linked the phone to speakers via the tape deck which is redundant now anyway, I don't even have any tapes. Then I bought a cigarette lighter USB socket (About £3.00 inc postage). I fed all the wires up behind the centre cubby hole and through the back of the cubby hole via the two square holes already there. Then I made a little perspex panel across the front of the centre cubby hole and mounted a Samsung phone holder onto it, making sure the lid closed ok, (had to cut it down a bit, the holder not the lid) So now I connect the charger lead and the speaker lead to my phone, pop it in the phone holder and off I go. So I have google maps and camera warnings all nagging me through the speakers and if I want (and i don't), the phone works through the speakers as well. Some slight noise through the tape but otherwise seems to work a treat and a cheap mod.
  22. Hi. Want to put Mobile phone sat nav and camera alert in the cubby hole and wire to speakers. No problem with that but without dismantling the centre console assembly which is a bit of a sledgehammer to crack a nut, does anyone know best way to feed power from the front cig lighter socket and thin cable from tape deck up behind and into the centre cubby hole. Thanks and in eager anticipation! Neil
  23. Thanks I will check it out. You can view my thread and look at my Bose iPod hack. Enables you to use an AUX cable. Oh and
