  1. Just curious as to whether a member owned my car before me, it's an azure blue UK facelift MY06 GT, reg starts DG56 and previous owner was from Manchester apparently.
  2. FEA on wheels I would agree with as theres some complex geometry and loading paths but spacers are basic and can easily checked with hand calcs
  3. OP if you decide to do this I can offer support, I'm a mechanical design enigineer with experience in a large variety of materials and manufacturing methods along with contacts for machinists and fabricators and extensive experience and knowledge of Solidwors and ProE CAD and FEA packages. Docwra - I can't imagine any NDT being done on a wheel spacer, just some hand clacs, possibly some FEA but doubtful and if you keep the calcs and a copy of the material certificates you would be covered legally. There wouldn't be any copyright issues on wheel spacers but potentially could be on other parts.
  4. Hey Ken, where are you getting the wheels done? I'm thinking about getting all of mie refurbished.
  5. Sorry to hear about your car mate and glad your ok, hope you get fair money from the insurance company. Did anyone recommed any garages in Notts for the Z? As I would be interested in hearing where people recommend, got a fair few bits I want doing to mine.
  6. ?!?!?!?! so Tarmac and Zmanalex have tonneau covers? I thought noboday had any of these for sale except once in a blue moon second hand.

    Fog lights

oh ok, yeah I didn't put my main beams on so that may be why. I'll have a check tomorrow. I definetly turned the correct switch, it was as I turned the switch that it also turned my side lights on so thought that was all that had to be on. Don't worry I don't drive around with fog lights and side lights on, just wanted to check all the lights work as I haven't had the car long and fog lights are the one set of lights I always forget to check.

    Fog lights

I know I'm probably being daft and the answer will be in the manual but does the Z have rear fog lights? I know there's a switch on the indicator stalk for them but when I turned it on tonight it was just my side lights and tail lights that came on. Thought I would ask before I go looking for a blown bulb.
  9. Well it looks like Nissan are trying to mess around. I had to go to the dealership last Saturday so that they could inspect the thickness of the brake discs themselves and they confirmed that all 4 brake discs are below minimum thickness. It has taken their aftersales manager until today to come back to me and they are tryring to refuse to pay for replacement but they have offerd me 50% off a service carried out by them and 20% off any work that subsequently needs carrying out as good will . They also said that the brakes are safe and so being an mechanical engineer myself I have informed them why having brake discs below minimum thickness is unsafe and dangerous. I'm going to wait for their response to my latest email before I name and shame them to all you guys so you can avoid the trouble I've had and contacting trading standards.
  10. Agree with Rob too, most of my family are or were service men, from my great grandad to grandad to uncles to brother. What they do for us can never be valued high enough. Jay - what area of oil and gas do you work in? I work for a well known seal and electrical connector supplier in the oil and gas industry.
  11. The car was on a ramp at a garage last Sat getting the gearbox and diff oil changed, that's when I started paying closer attention to the discs as the garage let me look around the underside of the car whilst they change the oils. The inside of the discs is in an appauling state, but regardless is was when I measured the dscs that alarm bells began ringing.
  12. Yeah you were there when I bought it Ken, how are you? Do you remember me saying to you I had asked them to check the discs and they said they were fine? After listening to you about you getting your gearbox and diff oil changed I decided to get mine done today and the gearbox is a lot nicer now. Still trying to get one of the android systems you've got in your car but no luck just yet, hopefully one day. Are you going to any meets anytime soon?
  13. Thanks for your responses everyone, I will ring the dealers on Monday and tell them I want them changing if they say they will do it then I'll leave it at that, if they try and argue against it then I will happily tell you all which dealer it is name and shame them but fair to give them a second chance first. I asked about the 'fit for purpose' because with the discs being too thin that means the cars not road worthy (a MOT failure). I would get it MOT'd to prove this but it's not due until August.
  14. Hi Everyone, Not really sure what section to post this under. Quick question for you all, when you buy a second hand car from a dealer they are legaly obliged to ensure the car is fit for purpose (which isn't exactly definitive). When I went to purchase my Z a couple of weeks ago I noticed there was a large lip on all of the brake discs so I asked them to check if they were ok and if not change them. The salesman took it into the service shop and then came out with the mechanic and they both said they were fine, plenty of life left in them. This weekend I have had a closer look at them and can clearly see they are miles passed the minimum thickness (1 mm wear on each side so 2mm wear in total, handbook says 1.6mm total wear is limit for Brembo's). Do you guy think it is reasonable for me to ask the dealer to pay for replacements or will I need to foot the bill? (looks like around £1000 for the discs and might as well gets pads at the same time and ten theres fitting).
  15. I was more thinking the diff too as i've had drop links go on other cars and it just knocks when you go over bumps which my 350 doesn't do. I'm not worried if it is the diff as i've got a warranty from Nissan but it's only for 3 months so will need to get it sorted soon if it is that. I just need to find a way of knowing exactly what it is so I can tell nissan what to do. Just been out in it and I can repeat the problem consistantly and it is definetly only when turning from a flat road onto a hill and only when turning left. It is also timely noise not random which is what makes me think it could be the diff but then I did wonder if it was simply a heatshield tapping the exhaust when turning uphill?
  16. Also just wanted to add that when I go over bumps there is no noise, it is only when I turn from a flat up a hill. Thought I would add this incase it confirms or denies the issue being the droplinks.
  17. Hi thanks for your reply, Is there any easy way to check that it is the droplinks? From reading the forums they say to just disconnect them and see if the noise goes away but they only ever mention doing this on the front. Is it ok to do on the rear or is there another way or doing it? Also I got the car from Harrats Nissan in Sheffield and they fitted new resar offside wishbones would they have not checked both the rear drop links before giving me the car?
  18. Thanks everyone, I'll grab one now.
  19. Hi everyone, I just got mt Z last Saturday and I love it but I think I might have found a very worrying fault but I can't figure out what it is so was hoping someone could help me diagnose the issue. If I am driving slowly and tunr left (seems to happen more often when turning left) up a hill I get a sort of clicking/tapping noise form the rear. The first time it happened I thought it was something caught in the tyre as the noise is regular i.e. like a ticking clock tsp tap tap tap. As soon as I straighten the car up the noise stops and I have never heard the noise when going down hill. Has anyone got any ideas?
  20. Hi Cookie, would you be able to fit one of your touch screen systems in m car please. it is a 2006 facelift Z with birdview.Really want one of these systems after seeing Ken's.
  21. Hi, I am after a luggage net and a vertical tonneau cover with mounting brakcets. I have asked Nissan for one but the luggage net is a right rip off and apparently they don't do the tonneau cover anymore so if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
  22. I'm desperate for one too on an 06 facelift, really want a real satnav and not the birdview rubbish. Looks as though I will have to get a new surroud as well as the cubby too as I've currently got birdview. If anyone is willing to make one for me please let me know. I realise it isn't going to be cheap.
  23. Hi, thanks for your reply, it is a 2006 Z so there is no lid at all, just a lip at the top and the built in button panel below the screen. Do you know if I can order the cubby direct from Nissan or is there somewhere else i could get it from for a bit less money?
