New Business Idea - Supercar Experience Days
DannyBoy replied to djrm's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Have to agree with this I'm afraid, I actually looked this up with a few mates a while ago for s**ts and giggles and you can hire a V12 vantage with a 100 mile free allowance for a day for just under £500 with the company we looked at (not that they'd touch me because i'm not old enough ). I think there's a reason supercar experience companies are large operations, and also a reason that they restrict how you drive the car. Admirable that you want to let people really experience a supercar for a good price but you'd be making up the difference out of your own pocket. DB -
Voted No idea what all the fuss is about with that black 300zx the 240Z is the only one that even comes close to yours. DB

Not sure i've ever seen a more dicey ad 350bhp N/A? yea ok, ask Z1 how easy and cheap that is, certainly took more than a new exhaust and 'hot cams'. Also as has been said that stuff about the Uprev is just complete bull. OP I wouldn't touch that with a 10' pole. The stillen could be a good buy for 8.5k though, may only be 350bhp but that beats 276. DB

Sorry, it stands for High Flow Cat, there are a few makes, but mine (and probably the most used i think) are Berks Technology. DB

My car has the usual set of N/A bolt-ons (spacer, '06 airbox, milltek) and i went for the HFCs rather than decats. I got a pretty respectable 307bhp out of that, and other cars i've seen with decats instead have only made literally 2 or 3 more ponies. Factor in that under the new MOT rules it will actually be full on illegal to have decats fitted to a car which had cats originally (not just because it will fail emissions like previous years, the act of removing the cats will now render the car 'unroadworthy') and i really don't see the point in risking being caught out by that for the sake of 2bhp and a bit of noise. If you has a full on FI setup then it might make more of a difference, but with a more or less stock car everything i've seen suggests HFCs are the way forward. DB

Not likely, and is it just me or does that look like just about the worst fitting exhaust ever? DB
-
I've also looked into this as a possible future project but the deal-breaker for me is the massive faff getting all ancilliaries and gauges to work properly. It's fine if you want a stripped out drift/track car with a digital dash and all the luxuries of a caterham, but from the stories on the US forums if what you want is your car exactly the same but with an Ls2 in it, you're going to be disappointed. Mmmmmmm...... much want. Always had a soft spot for boxsters, almost got one instead of the Zed, and that is a pretty successful facelift I think. Never got the whole 'poor man's 911' thing, i think it may because Clarkson said it once everyone has decided it's true. Is a Boxster a rear engined 2+2 GT coupe? No it's a 2 seater mid-engined roadster and a damn good one at that, good choice Mr EH370z Senior. DB

Please dont say these things! Haha, i was only meaning that you're unlikely to want to drive it sensibly on your first trip, you'll easily see 30MPG driving conservatively but i'm guessing that isn't why you bought the car? My point was; it's your first trip in a new car, so try not to worry about fuel too much and just get on with loving it. I like Wesmin's idea of making a trip out of it, how many chances are you going to get to do something like that with a good excuse? DB

I managed to get from London to Keswick in the lakes (300ish miles) and about a quarter of the way back again with a few trips in between without taking the **** and hypermiling, so i'd have thought you could do it in one tank in around 5 1/2 hours. Of course the chances of you getting more than 10mpg on the day you pick it up are probably slim. Just enjoy it (legally) and get through 3 tanks DB

What like in this case? Try telling that to this ticket inspector http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-16229921 Sorry what? This guy was sitting down being difficult, not stabbing anyone. Are you suggesting that proportionality should be judged on what someone might be about to do rather than what they are known to be doing? It's a discraceful thing to happen, but i can't see how it applies to this. DB

In UK law you can only perform a citizen's arrest in order to prevent the person from causing or suffering personal injury or causing property loss or damage, or escaping before a police constable can formally arrest them. In this case the Big Man was doing none of those things, the young guy wasn't hurting anyone and he wasn't trying to escape. I'm not sure the 'little scrote' was intentionally breaking the law, and probably thought that he shouldn't have been kicked off the train due to an admin ****-up. I think the conductor actually handled it quite badly, not sure why he didn't just call the Transport Police to meet them at the next station and carry on with the journey. If he had done that i don't think anyone would have felt the need to act, but I'm sorry, chucking someone heavily onto a concrete platform (twice) because you want to get on with your journey doesn't seem that reasonable. Yea, not that surprising really, powerful RWD is never really going to be carefree fun on a wet track because it's going to try and kill you all the time. As for the lap time, I'd think the Zed suffered because its advantage was its power, which it couldn't get down in the wet. Sort of begs the question why bother to test for fun and speed in the wet at all, as that's a pretty stupid time for spirited driving. DB

Heading up your way tomorrow with the old man to walk up a few (hopefully) snow-covered hills we'll be in his VW Sharan though, not the Zed DB

A heavy landing with the wings full of fuel could over stress them, it's not just a weird excuse! Pffff next you'll be telling me they have to shut down wind turbines in high wind as they cant spin that quick ..... no wait I just always heard these quotes that the wings are so strong you could put twenty elephnats on each wing or something and they wouldnt break. I wonder what the greens think of that fuel 'usage' That's pretty much true about the wings, you're not going to overstress an airliner's structure (landing gear aside) by landing a bit heavy. I've only ever flown much smaller stuff, but i'd think it's because the aircraft would have to generate more lift to counteract the weight, and as they already go in at maximum flap and angle of attack etc. the only thing left to do to get more lift would be increase speed, and coming in faster than you should isn't fun whatever you're in. There's a company called Black Cat that do really nice custom gauge faces if you wanted something a little different. have a look: http://www.blackcatcustom.com/Nissan%20350Z.htm DB

Hi, welcome to the forum I'm about your age, and i've not found insurance or anything to be that bad tbh, depends where you live. The running costs are another matter though. From what you posted your income as, I likely have more disposable income than you, and i still find the Zed makes regular inroads into money that previously would have been spent on other fun stuff (going out, hobbies/sports etc.). It's never left me with a bad taste in my mouth as i love every minute i'm in it, but you may have to be prepared to fund it like a hobby rather than a car. You're the best person to assess realistically how much cash you have kicking around each month and whether you can absorb things like new brake pads (£200+) or a heavy petrol month. On another note, the Zed might be a letdown after a hot-hatch, they don't feel all that fast because of the linear torque until you look at the speedo and realise how accidentally illegal you are. DB

Wire between passenger footwell and driver's side
DannyBoy replied to Shinjuku's topic in 350Z Technical
If you're after a thorough and tidy way to do it, i'd remove the gear surround, and knee pad trim (may need to remove centre console as well) and run the wire from footwell to footwell via the gearstick area where i remember there being a fair bit of space between the transmission tunnel and the trim. Sounds a bit scary but it should be pretty straightforward Just out of interest, what are you doing with the wire? DB -
It doesnt Yea, I've been hoping GTM will get on with it and make a DE version; the C-38 just makes all other supercharger options look like hairdriers (only 400bhp, pah!). Unfortunately doesn't look like they plan to so i'll have to stick their TT kit on my wish-list instead DB

ZMANALEX might have some of the clip-in cargo nets kicking around if that'll do what you want. WOOOO! first chance to use this: DB
