  1. The point i was trying to make about nurses is that no matter how bad there employment conditions get, whether its pensions, working condition etc they wont strike even if they voted yes to do so. Most that voted yes prob did as a scare tatic.

Also when i joined the NHS, like others i did so knowing that my salary would be 25% less than if i had used my qualifications and experience to gain employment in the private sector. The reason why i did this was due to the job security and pension scheme it offered.

6 of one, half a dozen of the other. Nobody is taking away pensions that have already been accrued! That's the thing. Nothing is being "taken away" from anybody. Everybody now has a choice. They either stick with the proposed arrangements or they can leave and go work in a the private sector. My understanding is that everything accrued to-date stands.

I agree I for one could seek employment in the private sector, but what do all the nurses thats spent up to 4 years at university do?

How many private employers employ nursing staff? As ive already said they simply have to grin and put up with it no matter how bad it gets.

  3. Ive worked in the NHS for over 15 years. I now work in a pfi hospital for a large international company.

I think its absolutely disgusting how the nursing staff have been treated over the years. Dont think that the nurses are taking the threat of strike action lightly. The nurses ive spoken to are going through hell, even thinking about striking.

I really dont think most of the public know what nurses go through on an average day, it must be the most thankless job out there.

Finally what makes it worse is that those in power know nurses probably wont strike no matter how much @*!# they fling at them!

The strike is about the pensions, not the sometimes rubbish NHS management and conditions that makes (in your example) hospital staffs lives difficult.

That PFI on your hospital isn't helping the country one iota either.

I agree that PFI is a bad idea, but if the authorities cant afford to build new hospitals, schools etc what other options are there?

  5. Think someone's after a cheap paint job!

Get it now! Sorry was being a bit thick. Its been happening alot recently.

Went out for a wee drive last week after nearly crushing myself to death. I decided to park the car and nip in for a haircut. I waited over an hour in the barbers, finally had a trim, left the barbers and walked home. Got halfway home and realised i'd left my car in the carpark.

Had to walk back down and get it

  6. The benefit is that you get a full colour match. If you car is metallic that's harder to match than a flat colour.

Thanks, any bad points. Dont want it to look like my car's been in an accident when I finally decide to sell it.

I would be slightly unsure of a car that had a full respray.

I'd be much more unsure of a car that had a significant partial respray (i.e whole front end) than one that had a full respray, and anyway as it's not due to any damage I wouldn't have said you'd be under any obligation to tell anyone about it when you come to sell it on. As long as the colour matches the V5 and the car looked straight, i'd see a full respray as a bonus when buying a car, especially one with crappy thin paint like the Zed. If it really is a full respray for £600, bite his hand off and go for it

Thanks for the advice mate. I'm going to take photos of all my panels to show that ive only got some stonechips here and there. That way i can show any future buyer. ;)

  8. My Zed is booked in next tuesday to have the front bumper, part of the bonnet and drivers side back quarter painted. Reason for this is that the bumper and bonnet have the usual stone chips and the paint on the back quarter looks a bit thin.

It is a really close friend who's painting my car and his work is always awesome.

Question is he only wants £260 to do the work (mate's rates), thats including machine polishing my full car afterwards. I asked him how much he would take to respray my full car out of curiosity. He replied £600!

I think this is really cheap and I know his work will be faultless, but is there any disadvantages to having my full car resprayed? :)

  9. I've had 2 astra vxr's and i cant really fault them. If your thinking about tunning then stage 2 or 3 is a waste of money unless you shell out £1000 for a LSD.

Now that the new astra vxr is on sale (looks awesome) you can pick up a low mile 2007 for your money.

  10. I only bought the 123d as they had stopped making the 130i the year before, therefore the 123d M sport was top of the range for performance and trim.

Should have bought a used 130i as i only do around 4000 miles a year.

  11. i bought a brand new bmw 123d m sport in nov 2009. it was a 3 door hatch back in white. nice driving position but thats about it!

Probably the biggest waste of my money ever. only kept it for 4 months and done 2000 miles.

New they seem silly money and depreciate rapidly. Id be looking at one a few years old and probably the coupe. Are they that bad? Twin turbo, 0-60 in less than 7 seconds and 60mpg all sound good to me.

I maybe weird, but i dont mind diesels.

Best I could manage was 38 mpg.I took it back to bmw and they said the low mpg was due to it being brand new and winter time. They told me I would get better mpg when the car had some milage on it

Also i've never damaged a clutch in the 20 years i've been driving, but I had to get clutch replaced at 1500 miles as it had started shuddering when pulling away in 1st gear. I burn't clutch out trying to get my dog home from the vets after an operation after the really bad snow fall in dec 2009.

  12. I agree i thought i had bought it last night via pm and phone call

Price was agreed and all i had to do was sort out delivery. Even contacted paul who originally sold it to find out who was the best courier to use.

logged on today to find out it was still for sale but for more than we agreed last night.

  13. yeah i did drill into it, but can easily be undone when prepping for spray

    i think i overpriced it a little

my lowest price and final price for the whole kit is

    £750 + your own delivery / courier

To expensive for me then mate. I'd rather buy new at that price. Good luck.

  15. first bloke i've ever heard of who's been kicked in the nuts by his own car.

that does however sound very painful, i hope its not to serious, i'd get some ice on your nuts and some deep heat on your back. ;)

Good idea mate, hope I dont get it round the wrong way ice on the back and the deep heat on the nuts.

Ive got a 6 inch bruise from my right ball to my hip bone. I'll have to explain that one to the wife! :boxing:

  16. As it was a nice day today I thought I would get the Zed out the garage and give it a once over and a quick detail.

I thought I would start by checking the oil level etc. As it was a bit dark in the garage I thought I would take it onto the driveway to check it. As I wanted to dip the oil when the car was cold I decided not to start it up, so i decided to push it out. Car was facing into garage, so I decided to open the drivers door, let the hand brake off and PULL it out leaning onto the center post.

I forgot I had a 3 inch ramp going into my garage, so when the back wheels reached it, the car just picked up speed.

I couldnt get out the way before I got caught between the edge of the drivers door and the door frame of my garage :blackeye:

I took the full inpact mostly on my groin and abs. My back is also really badly bruised. Cant beleive how stupid I was. I'm to embarassed to tell anyone to there face, but i'm in agony
