  1. Mine also sits around 600-650 and there's an occasional knocking and pop from the exhaust, I assumed it was normal? Putting the air con on sorts it out

Yeah mate, i get the odd wee pop from the exhaust as well. Aircon on does help. :teeth:

  2. When warm my 54 plate Zed ticks over at around 600 ish RPM and every now and again the car shudders slightly. I was told that this was ok

    Any advice please?

  3. Have a look at the new astra 2.0 CDTI 160 bhp, stunning inside by far the best interior in its price range. You might want to wait on the 3 door sports hatch coming out later this year though.

My friend just bought an audi A5 sline on a contract lease and i couldnt belive how cheap it was!

  4. stuarty the comment wasn't aimed at you.

i drew parallels from your moving on from the VXR to me moving on from the Zed.

the tit and muppet comments were aimed at our resident mad max road warriors

    opionions are always welcome.

written format is always difficult to get the gauge of someone and their humour/personality. try not to take offense.

 Sorry mate. No offence taken. ;)

  5. The reason why i sold my VXR was that as soon as it dropped below 10k to own one all the local A holes had them.

 not a disimiliar reason for why i sold my zed  and this thread has only helped to prove/reinforce a point.

i wouldn't say A holes as i don't know all the new members on here, but i would possibly say younger and less experienced and even in some cases immature. which at the end of the day is not far off what i was like at that age. and would think alot of others possibly were too.

the point i'm trying to make is that we all do stupid things, but on this forum its a bit frowned upon to come on here and brag/boast about it. you'll end up getting a reputation on here as a bit of a tit and people won't take you seriously when you post. if you do something muppety, or like being a muppet. keep it to yourself. ;);)

Good point, sorry if ive offended anyone. When i said A holes i was referring to the local neds around were i live, who i know very well. Never once was i referring to anyone on this forum.

Again apologies to anyone who took offence. I'll keep my opinions to myself from now on. :) First time ive been called a tit or a muppet though.

Nobody called you a muppet, you tit :p

I'm lost, only had 2 bottles of beer tonight. :dummy: Think i'll read the whole thread tomorrow again. Thought :bangin: Dont even know what i thought now.

  7. Stuarty, which number VXR did you have? Thorney or Courteney for the mods?

Also, this thread has a remarkable amount of fail in it at points.

Would it be simpler if i posted some pics for you?

  8. If I have, then I apologize if I have offended anyone!

All I was trying to say is that the astra VXR is a good car, but I now prefer the Z.

Also that the VXR220 turbo was the best VXR that vauxhall produced both on the road and track, including the VXR8! :)

    Vauxhall didn't "produce" the VXR8 though ;)

Sorry my mistake, meant to say " that Vauxhall sold"

  10. Wow. Some of the comments here are hilarious

Makes me glad I got out of the Z when I did, its only a matter of time before some of these newbs make headlines for the wrong reasons

Only a bit of fun... if its allowed?

  11. Well, my VXR would have you all.

And I'm the 'ardest man on my block.

Lol, exactly thats why ive now got a Z. ;)

    I was being serious.

    I have a VXR8....

C'MON, What about my VX220 turbo I've not long sold!

  12. I had a bog standard Astra 1.8 and considered going for a VXR but so glad I didn't. 350z has kudos, Astra VXR's look like any other road car out there, no one double takes an Astra no matter how much turbo power is bolted to it. Performance wise for a VXR unless you are will to go stage 2 or 3 on tuning which starts running into £3k+ you are going to max out at around 250bhp. The older Zed can quickly get itself up to 300bhp for half that cost (exhaust spacer remap). I also found the Astra's to be what I call 'soul-less', they just lack that gusto and character. Never for one second have I regretted going for a Zed over any hot hatch.

Vauxhall do a chip for the vxr astra that gives an extra 50bhp for less than that. I have a buddy who's running 310 out a vxr with a few minor upgrades and a remap.

    No chance!!!

Its the astra vxr with the black grills. Vauxhall deliver them with 265bhphttp://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/2840121.htm it's similar to that one, Its had a different turbo and custom manifold and mahoosive front mount intercooler put on it along with tuning and dynoed 310@fw. Rs tuning on here had one in when I was down and it dynoed 367 just before mines went on.

Edit meant to add the one at rs was running on low boost as it kept getting knock when running in the boost. They were saying it should have dynoed well above that.

EVERY astra VXR has exactly the same power when stock. The Nuremburg edition, The racing edition and finally the Artic edition all have the exact power as the standard car. The only difference is cosmetic. Except for the nurenburg which come with a remus exhaust as standard.

The car simply cant deliver any more power in the first 3 gears, unless you fit a diff and that dosent help much. As far as the torque steer is concerned it's bad! Understeer is a problem but not as bad as people make out. I would Sh**e myself in the corners before the car would lose traction in the dry.

  14. Ive owned 2 astra vxr's from new and a second hand vx220 turbo second hand.

My first astra vxr was a 2008 arden blue with 18 inch wheels and the second was a 59 plate saphire black with 19 inch wheels.

The car is very fast in all gears, pulls like a train in 6th gear. It is also really good on fuel, around 30mpg. It costs the same to service as a basic corsa around £120 first year and £180 second year.

My first astra was running stage 3 with around 290bhp. Panel filter, Miltek turbo back 3 inch Zorst, Bottom mounted intercooler and superchips remap on bluefin device. after 2 weeks i had to take it back and pay £1000 to fit a LSD as it simple couldn't put the power down. Wasnt much better afterwards.

Second astra was stage 1. Panel filter iradium plugs and stage 1 remap. this smothed out the original mapping on the car and sorted out some of the torque steer.

Vauxhalls maps are far to aggressive on the VXR!

I dont think you would get more bang for you buck anywhere and I know for sure that it would keep up with my Z. But for the 3+ years I owned them, the only people that commented on them or gave them a second look was the local young team and the needs.

Ive only had my Z for over a month and everyone admires it and has something to say about it (all good).

The reason why i sold my VXR was that as soon as it dropped below 10k to own one all the local A holes had them. Also the interior is very, very poor. My drivers seat needed recovered after 3k miles and started rattling soon after. Keyless entry system on cars after 2007 is excellent.

The new astra VXR looks good as it expected to have around 300bhp and vauxhall may fit the adaptive 4WD system from the insignia VXR.

  15. I changed mine with my dad in under 5hours and installed a new cam cover and plenum spacer(it was apart anyway) Got the parts of ZMANALEX and used normal tools (make sure you have a low force torque wrench). I think I made a post of the work plus pics if you use the search viewtopic.php?f=64&t=47474 I asked nissan and they wanted £500ish for the job, just to note I had never worked on an engine before, so I recommend you try it yourself

Thanks for the advise mate. I went to a local specialist, who is very good and really knows there stuff. They quoted me £250 to change both gaskets and to change the CV joint as i have the clicky axle problem also. If i supply the parts. :teeth:

  16. Ive had a burning smell when i put the foot down. Had it checked and ive got a slight oil leak from the rocker cover and i think its dripping onto the exhaust. I was told that i need to change the rocker cover gaskets.

    Anyone had this problem?

Nissan said it would involve about 4 hours labour to replace the gaskets. Does this sound ok?

  17. Ive had 2 astra VXR's recently my first one had oem 18's and it was great. Second one had oem 19 inch anthracites. I didnt notice any difference in performance but the ride on the 19's was terrible. IMO far to many potholes nowadays ;)

Or maybee i'm just getting old

  18. Hi all,

Currently I have an iPhone 3GS 16GB and the contract is about to expire.

I am looking for a new phone which I plan to purchase on Pay as you go and then get a 'sim only' contract. In the long run it works out cheaper purchasing an offline phone and paying a lower monthly line rental fee on a 'sim only' deal, additionally you tend to receive much better allowances on a 'sim only' deal also. The only disadvantage of this is the large investment towards a new phone prior to purchasing the contract. Whereas on a contract phone, the cost of the phone is spread out over the contract period. On a 'sim only' deal, you may cancel the contract with a 28 day written notification which is very convenient.

Now down to the reason I started this thread:

    Which phone should I purchase?

I am trying to avoid the iPhone as the battery life is rubbish and the phone is unbelievably slow!

    Any suggestions??

    Samsung Galaxy S. "Awesome". ;)
